Recently bought a Spirit Halloween animated prop, The Widow. I got her for 50% off as she was broken. Her only animation is that her head snaps as if her neck breaks. The store box said 50% off because her head did not snap. As I fix things and do electronics for a living, and I tinker with a lot of different hobbies, plus I have fixed quite a few broken animatronics already, I thought I would give her a try.
So I hooked her up and tried her, and her head did move slowly from side to side, and thats it. It looked like it was trying to find the home position to me. I then surfed the net to see if there was any other info on repairing her, and I saw a quick ten second one showing with her molded head part removed but the mechanism was working. That one in the comments below said that what he found on his was that the rubber band or belt was stretched and work on his. Hence he found a similar belt at a Home Depot and replaced it and all was well. Since I already had a belt kit for other repairs, I decided to delve into mine.
To remove her head from the mechanism, roll up her rubber neck and near the top of the neck, her head has a clear inner plastic that has 6 small screws around it that are screwed into the mechanism. Unscrew the 6 screws and her whole head just pulls right of the mechanism. Then on the mech, there is a small cover that covers the motor belt and gear of the problem area. Remove the 2 screws over the plastic cover and you have access to the mechs lock and release belt and problem area. Once there, check for 2 things. One, check the belt. Is it broken or stretched out? If so, replace it. Second, on mine, check and see if that cam was pushed out and not making the switch when it turns. I pushed it in, then put some super glue on the cam and spindle to keep the cam from working its way off the spindle. Hope this helps someone, good luck.
