As a kid I spent a summer with family in North Dakota. At first I felt out of place. A kid from the suburbs spending the summer on a farm. I ended up really enjoying it. Good food, nice people, low population and no rushing around.

@@bigscarysteve My husband's great-great grandmother and father on his mother's side were Blackfoot. Deadly enemies of the Sioux Nation. They would kill and wouldn't count coup to show bravery as the Sioux Nation did. His great-grandfather married an Irishman or Scotsman, we get mixed up of where the 2 fit in.

Adam, thank you for this really interesting video. Brings back wonderful memories of when we toured the USA for my 70th birthday several years ago. The town of Deadwood was one of the many areas in SD we visited plus Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse. A truly beautiful and inspiring area. Now in my eighties, I would love to do all over again but due to health issues no longer possible. Many thanks from David in the UK.

I drove our brand new Oldsmobile to Deadwood. While we were in a shop, golf ball size hail started. I ran out to the car, threw a sleeping bag on the roof, and other stuff on the hood and trunk. For the next ten years we had the Olds, it had pock marks like a golf ball. These dimples provided better MPG, just like dimpled golf balls fly farther.

Adam; for more "Wild Bill" Hickock history, you need to visit St. Joseph, MO where there is a lot of wild west history in the surrounding areas. In terms of "Wild Bill", you would need to visit the Patee House Museum and the Pony Express Stables as "Wild Bill" got his start as he was one of the first riders of the Pony Express. In addition, you can visit the home where Jesse James was murdered as it sits right by the Patee House Museum which was the headquarters of the Pony Express. St. Joseph was also one of the starting spots for the Lewis and Clark Expodition along with the Oregon Trail. Then about 30 minutes from St. Joseph is Kearney, MO where the Jesse James Ranch is which is where he was born. Oh and I can't forget to add that a movie wad filmed in St. Joseph and buildings used are still standing. The movie in question is called Paper Moon which starred Ryan O'Neil and his young daughter Tatum O'Neil.

Back in the day with the folx, every time we would go through Deadwood and the surrounding areas there were always a million bikers. Seems not a lot has changed in 30 plus years. And you jogged my memory. As a kid about ten or so, I remember being right there at Wild Bill and Calamity Jane's burial spot. Of course it didn't have that huge headstone/bust then, but I do recall the fencing. I didn't know much about Wild Bill, but I knew of Calamity Jane through that old Doris Day musical film my mom always watched on TV when it would come on. Awesome video. Thanx for the memories and look forward to the next one. Take care.

Thank you for such a wonderful video. We were stationed at Ellsworth AFB just outside Rapid City '69-'74. I remember my parents and I going to Deadwood several times while there. The road leading up to the cemetery has changed though. It used to be longer and much steeper.....there was a sign at the beginning warning those that chose to drive up ran risk of transmissions problems due to degree of incline.
