This is the reason I love youtube. I discovered Kate Wolf a few years ago. Some of the most beautiful and poignant songs I have ever heard. I sang one of her songs at a friend's funeral. What a wonderful talent gone long before her time.

In '86 I lived for 5 years in Sedona and Jerome was one of my all-time favorite towns, spent at least one day a week there. I loved that little town and almost moved there and was about to rent the green house right in the last bend, but about a month before it became available it burnt down. I am 81 now and living in Spain and recently came across Kate and immediately fell in love with her singing. When I heard Old Jerome and saw all the familiar pictures of that town, tears streamed down my cheeks. Now there is not a day that goes by without listening to Kate. I love that beautiful woman.

As a Artist, I raised my family in Jerome.. I remember when Kate came to Jerome to visit another folk singer Katie Lee-- That's when she wrote her song Jerome, that captured the essence of that remarkable town, always Home to me..And our official Town song..

I woke up to the sound of the wind blowing wild Crying like a warning in the night Crying like a warning in the night If you would save a friend, if you would serve your own Rise up in the morning with the light Rise up in the morning with the light CHORUS 1: Rise up in the morning and hear the sisters call The brothers are standing at the door They say one spirit leads you, they say that all must go The wind blows wild on the shore Now listen to the sound of the years going down It's fifty blowing in the wind Fifty years blowing in the wind The memories just fade into a bright parade How many times did you see him? How many times did you see him? CHORUS 2: Did you see him? He was there to wave to you All those times you've needed him before You say this one shall lead you, he knows we all must go The wind blows wild on the shore BRIDGE: Nobody's fool, everybody's clown A riddle when there is no better answer Tripping like through a dream like Mister Tambourine Dancing on a sea of laughter Dancing on a sea of laughter CHORUS 2: Did you see him? He was there to wave to you All those times you've needed him before You say this one shall lead you, he knows we all must go The wind blows wild on the shore Now listen to the sound of the wind blowing wild Crying like a warning in the night Crying like a warning in the night If you would save a friend, if you would serve your own Rise up in the morning with the light Rise up in the morning with the light CHORUS 1: Rise up in the morning and hear the sisters call The brothers are standing at the door You know one spirit leads you, you know we all must go The wind blows wild on the shore OUTRO: Did you see him? The Above story is One of my favoriet posts I have seen in a long time. After my angel bride passed Dec 2015, music has been very powerful to me. Brianna Lea Pruett's more than anything and especailly after Brianna took her own life at 32. Music has found its way to me over the last 7 plus years in amazing ways. I started making a series of Music DVDs the last couple months Called Music on the Road to the Soul. 7 I have made. Prine, T. Van Zandt, S. Earl, E. Harris and many such artists make their way onto these DVDs. Brianna inspired me to start it in first place. Kate I have heard of for over 30 years and never heard a song at least knowing who it was. When I decided to put a couple Kate Wolf songs on the 6th DVD I had no idea what an impact her music would have on me. The 7th and last to date I put three of her songs. I had never put more than 2 of any artist thus far. A couple days later I made a DVD of her music. I watched it 3 days in a row and that is all I watched those three days before bed. I have written long notes like this over the last three days but it h as been a while. Hope it was not over long. Kates music helps heal.

So many years ago I drove north from San Simeon along Highway #1. As night fell a storm from the Pacific ripped the coast, this experience was never forgotten for these moments which lasted for hours along Big Sur in the darkness, and narrow roadway of Highway #1 with wind swept rain; instilled an insight as to how temporal and fleeting life is. Wondering all the while if one turn will be missed, while longing to see those of great value in my life once again somewhere beyond the storm. Many Years years later I entered those same waters to bring a person ashore from the surf, with full knowledge of how unforgiving the waters of Big Sur are, the coldness of the water will never be forgotten; for once again what mattered most in life was crystal clear. "The Wind Blows Wild".

I think Kate knew the magic she had and knew life is transitory and tenuous. She understood her gift and her responsibility to tell the truth no matter how painful. I knew a Poet like Kate he wrote from a transcendent place of beauty and truth and although he didn’t intend his poems to be sad they were by nature so. But oh so deep and in touch with some great mystery just like Kate.

It has been almost four years since you wrote the above story. I hope that you and your daughter's lives are not as lonely anymore. Sometimes it is not about changing your life, but learning that this is what life is and we need to accept the beauty and the love when we have those opportunities. My best friend died Tuesday and she loved Kate Wolf's music. I've been listening to it all morning. We traveled a lot of miles together across the Great Divide, both coasts and all corners of the Continental U.S. I will miss her, but so glad for the memories I have. Thank you for your story. It brought tears to my eyes, especially when you mentioned the angel. It was indeed an angel, for I have seen him too -- decades ago when my car was stuck in a riverbed --- in the mud that looked like solid ground before I tried to cross through it. Nobody around except me and some friends in the car --- in the middle of nowhere --- then an elderly man with a high-powered pick up truck offered to pull me out of the mud. I thanked him --- he smiled. I turned around to start my car and my friends were helping me to brush off the mud that had soaked into my tires. Then, I turned around to say "thank you" again to the man and he was gone --- no truck, no tracks --- no proof that he was even there to help me except for the fact that my car was fine and I was able to get home again. None of us saw him leave --- he was just gone and we all had the same impression that he was an angel sent by God in our time of need.

Also love Kate Wolf and what a beautiful intro and tribute by eurydicejones I also find it very cosmic and fitting that Alice would be the second person to comment here... Indeed a small world. For, I was introduced to Kate Wolf by a lover and teacher in Humboldt County sometime before Kate passed. Around the same time, I was introduced to Alice Dimicele, another beautiful and passionate musican devoted to raising awareness about our natural world and its wonders. That heartbeat of love and fellowship (as the author above posted) brought Marshall (BIRD) Jett from the Potato House of SUNY New Paltz to a yurt on the campus of HSU to be my close and life long friend. That same love brought Alice Dimicele and Clan Dyken and Darryl Cherney and Judi Bari and myself to Redwood Summer... to the march and the festival, the dance, the protest and the prison and eventually to a protected Headwaters Forest Reserve. It brought my long lost friend, Bill Murray back in to my life and to this link. Thank You all of my angels Give Yourself to Love~ KW

I know so well the chill of the frigid winds which blow across the bay from the west, and how very unforgettable they are. Most especially when there seems so little hope in the present, perhaps it then when truths are learned which serve as a compass to where there is peace. The truths and beauty in Kate Wolf's songs are so very residual, and light the way ahead beautifully. If I ever get back to the Sierras I will drive Highway #49 to Goodyear's Bar where Kate is in peace, I am sure her spirit lives on in the hearts of those her music touches with beauty and truth.

So beautifully said and told, both your story and Kate's are both very deep 😍. I just listened to the song and read your story at 4am on a rainy night by the sea in Mumbai and it really does resonate so much 🙏🏽
