After all the jacks are in their boxes, and the clowns have all gone to bed ... you can hear Happiness, staggering, on down-the-street. Footprints dressed in red. And the Wind whispers, "Mary." A broom is drearily sweeping ... up the broken pieces of yesterday's life. Somewhere, a Queen is weeping. Somewhere, a King has no wife. And the Wind, it cries, "Mary!" The traffic lights, they turn blue tomorrow, and shine their emptiness down on my bed. The tiny island sags downstream, 'cause the life that they left us - is dead! And the Wind screams, "Mary!" Will the Wind ever remember the names it has blown in the past? And with this crutch, its old age, and its wisdom, it whispers: "No! This will be - the last!" And the Wind cries, "Mary."

@Matt x69x I only posted my comment after seeing all the comments by people mistakenly believing that this was Hendrix. In my opinion, I think Hendrix is much, much better than this guitarist. You should be able to hear it right away. Hendrix was an excellent chord/melody guitarist and his sense of rhythm was alway dead on. This player's timing is off, he often comes in a hair early on chords and is frequently slightly behind in the melody/solo parts. One of things that separates an outstanding guitarist from the rest is good rhythmic playing, that's why you see most good players either tapping a foot or moving part of their body in time.

Yngwie Malmsteen cites Hendrix as probably the greatest guitarist of all time. I listened to this track so very many times 'though (on the Jimi Hendrix greatest hits album) I probably knew the inflection of every note at one time. And this does not sound quite like the 'real deal'...... There are a few slightly altered notes & pauses. The voice is his. The playing probably is too but its not the original 'main' release version.

The story behind this song is interesting: Jimi was drunk and very angry because of the bad food his girlfriend cooked for him. He locked her up in the bathroom but she could get out and ran away . Next day she came back and without any excuse because of his bad behaviour he gave her a sheet of paper with the lyrics of this song. He did not expect her to come back . Her second name was "Mary".

Pretty crazy story and I won't go into all the details but when I was in Seattle several years ago I happen to go out to the town where Jimmy was born and buried. There's a Sunday and chance would have it I was high on LSD. Here came his family ready for church and asked me what I thought I was doing there I just said I would just pay my respect and be on my way. Al Hendricks wife not Jimmy's mom but his new wife or whatever was a sweetheart and she invited that I should go to church with them and then come to the house or Sunday dinner and help out your work in the yard. We did all that and I end up sleeping over. And guess who's bed ? Then I thought since I was high on LSD it was all one big hallucination but I got back with them later and they said yes you were here and you were the perfect gentleman . High it's all I was haha...
