Sheehan is pushing his signal through several effects, including (I suspect) an octave pedal to thicken their sound at spots. Especially during parts of Kotzen's solo that deviate from the basic melody of the tune.

I must have been through about a million girls I love 'em and I leave 'em alone I didn't care how much they cried, no sir Their tears left me cold as a stone But then I fooled around and fell in love I fooled around and fell in love I fooled around and fell in love I fooled around and fell in love It used to be when I'd see a girl that I like I'd get out my book and write down her name But when the grass got a little greener on the other side I'd just tear out that page But then I fooled around and fell in love I fooled around and fell in love, since I met you baby I fooled around and fell in love I fooled around and fell in love Free on my own, that's the way I used to be But since I met you baby, love got a hold on me Fooled around and fell in love (whoo, it's got ahold on me now, yeah) Fooled around and fell in love (I can't let go of you baby) Fooled around and fell in love (I can't stop loving you now, hey) Fooled around and fell in love ('Cause I fooled around, I fooled around ...) Fooled around and fell in love

I wish I had the STEMS for this, so I could 'fix' the bass part. Love Billy, but this song requires a lighter 'touch'.. Hamboning all over a classic.. Step back Mr. Sheehan.

When will Billy learn that shredding on a bass with high gain does not make the song sound better. The guy is so good yet so detrimental to collaboration. He could make this version great but he is still trying to be the shrapnel bass player that nobody forced him to be Richie was kind of required to be a hot licks string skipping, sweep tapping. Legato machine using an all modal style, then said fuck this, I am a soul rhythm player alla Mayfield and Hendrix with some unique pentatonic chops who sings like Steve Marriot in Humble Pie, Paul Rogers in Free and Rod Stewart in Faces. Sheehan is busy being a parody of himself in the 80s so that the rhythm section that Richie has to contend with is not as smooth as it could and should be. Billy might be the most gifted Bass Player but his need to entertain himself at the expense of the song and the overall groove is something I would expect from an 80s teenage prodigy who still hasn't learned to practice r restraint and stay in the pocket. I know he's a genius but I don't think he knows that people know he's great. If he knew the respect the musical community has for him, maybe he'd stop trying to hard to dazzle the crowd with bass pyrotechnics that were not even useful 40 years ago. Come on dude. you guys could have planned some serious venues if you stopped trying to be the musical acrobat and started being a musician

I mean personally the bass in this track is what keeps me coming back to it. For me this song is everything it needs to me, it's one of those songs that you hear and think "wow, I didn't even know music like this could exist". But I guess some people hear it and think "there's a reason music like this doesn't exist already". But screw you. I love it

Love the song, but the bass line destroys the mood, I am a big fan of billy but simply don’t match with this kind of music.
