People ask why the Winstons never sued the people who sampled and chopped the beats off this track. The answer is simple, the track contains songs plagiarized from Curtis Mayfield (We're A Winner) and Jester Hairston (Amen). The Winstons are credited as the sole song writers so they could get half the sales royalties from the record sales. Going to court might have opened a can of worms for them. They could have taken partial credit for their contribution but they took all the credit rather than include Mayfield and Hairston and share the money. They never expected the B-side would blow up in later years. The hiccup drumbeat is similar to the drum beats Tommy Roe used in his hit single, Sweet Pea that was released a couple of years prior. The A-side, Color Him Father is a classic!
