My first husband couldn't handle being the father of a special needs son so we divorced. A lot of men aren't willing to get involved in a relationship with the single mom of a special needs son but 24 years after my divorce one did and we got married. He couldn't adopt my son since he was legally an adult but he did do the next best thing and willingly became my son's legal co-guardian. My son is 99% non-verbal, but on his own, he started using the word "da" (dad) when this wonderful man entered our lives. This song made "da" cry the first time I played it for him.

My stepson, who is 6yrs old, dedicated this song to me, and i damned near broke down and cried cause i was stunned. He’s 10 now, and he corrected me, said, “i don’t want to be your stepson, i wanna be your son” so i adopted him, and boy DID I BREAK DOWN! Here’s why. Comes home from work, wife fixed me a good meal, then he handed me an envelope, wife told me read it out loud, and the adoption was final, and while reading it, he hugged n kissed me said, “i love you dad”! Couldn’t hold back, and he made me proud of him He’s 14 now, and my wife and I are so proud of him, and everytime he calls me dad, I have a glow about me, and smile, and he tells the world that I’m his dad, but don’t ever call me stepdad, or else you’ll have to deal with him

My Dad raised my brother, sister and myself. He passed from this life and into legend on Apr 16, 2009, one month after his 89th birthday. Born the grandson of slaves, he served with distinction, in the 92nd Division, in Italy, during WW2. He lived history. Born into an age where radio was in its' infancy, he lived to see television, computers, space flight, and the internet. He taught us that pride is determined by how well you respect yourself and how well you respect others. He had always told us that whatever you do in life, be sure you "make a difference". I see, now, that he was right.

Happy Father's Day, Daddy. I visited your grave today. Though you died 10 years ago this October, 2 days after your 91st year on earth, I remember everything so vividly. Mama was taken away from us when I was 12, but you never missed a beat. You were there for me until the end. When you could not get out of bed on your own or even get in bed, you were there for me. I will miss you until we are together again. I love you, Daddy.

I’ve actually never heard of this song by The Winstons. Of course in 1969 I was only 3 years old Lol 😆 One of my coworkers just introduced me to this amazing classic. My dad passed in 2016 when I was turning 50. Usually a milestone but without him it was just another birthday to me that year. I came home from work and did as the Winstons said, sat down at my own table and had a talk with dad. COLOR HIM FATHER 👍🏾✌🏾🙏🏾😎🎶
