Seems like season 3 is going to be totally different from the books/games. A lot of things have been altered. Not that I mind, I enjoyed s2 and can't wait for s3. Only thing that bothered me was geralt using ciri as bait, yennefer almost using ciri to regain her powers. They are supposed to have this parent/child bond, granted yen hasn't had nearly enough interaction with ciri for that to develop. Still it was quite vexing to watch. Those actions went against anything we knew about those characters.
@michabecik1823
2 жыл бұрын
@@tounsiforlife2317 For me 'using Citi as bait' was a part of her training and Yen needed an additional twist for this season or otherwise her part would be really boring. For me the main concept of this season is to show that everyone wants or needs Ciri to fulfill their plans or desires (political or personal). That is wny Yen and Vesemir do things that we wouldn't normally expect from them. It's unexpected but fits the main idea behind the entire season. And at the same time we watch Ciri trying to find her own way in this chaos.
@PemaMendez990
2 жыл бұрын
@@tounsiforlife2317 it will definitely stray from the books, hopefully not too much as it is a very good story, but it's understandable since it needs to work on that format and many things will seem anticlimactic in the screen if they portray them exactly as they went down on the books. Take Yen and Ciri for example, in the books they didn't really liked each other in the beginning and only developed that mother-daughter relationship when they both connected sharing about Geralt, the series it would've been like "okay so you're telling me they hated each other and now are friends just because they agreed they both hate how Geralt snores? fuck off" 😅. Having said that I do think what they did in the series was still fitting of her character to some degree, Yen's always the manipulative type with a secret agenda behind her actions, which is always getting something back like her fertility, her status and power, her magic (in this case), her freedom from nilfgaard (agreeing to help Emhyr find Ciri), or her free will (Last Wish mission in Witcher 3), and that always drags her into a big mess like with the Djinn(s), the Wild Hunt and or Nilgaard itself. I agree the Vesemir thing was very out of character like @Michał Bełcik said though, Vesemir has always been against creating more Witchers throughout the books and games. But it does make sense for story purposes as well. good start point for their arcs to develop somewhat parallel to the books
@Matt-bg5wg

The girls study at Aretuza but the male sorcerors have their own tower. Nilfgaard being a seperate Empire has a completely different society and ways of learning magic. It's why the Battle of Sodden was pretty tame. In the books its described as this insane magical battle where two different societies of magic clashed in and thousands of soldiers cut each other down.

I never played the game or read the books, so my opinion will be different to people who are already familiar with the story. But I actually thought this season was not as good as season one. I just finished the entire thing and I’ve already forgotten half that happened. I was watching the entire time waiting for something to happen… idk what exactly, but all of a sudden it was episode 6 and I still wasn’t ‘in it’. Also, the pace was off, at the start everything felt like it was happening really fast and half way throughout it was slow. Furthermore I thought the final episode was not as dramatic and intense as it could have been… it did not really feel like a finale to me. Also I was confused at times, I was paying attention but I just didn’t get the whole Dijkstra/Dara’s storyline. Also the two actors who play Tissaia and Vilgefortz have zero chemistry, I’m sorry but there’s nothing there. Idk if anyone agrees… bc a lot of reviews are positive. But please don’t come for me, it’s just my subjective opinion :) Ps: what's their obsession with contact lenses???

Well, I read the books, and most of this is new for me too. The thing is, they are covering the third book, Blood of the Elves, and it's pretty much a filler book, not much happens, Ciri goes to train with Witchers, than goes to train with Yennefer in Nenneke's temple. Why is no one discussing how much of a “screw you” this whole season is to the fans of the books? In any show that’s based on a book series, the readers know that some artistic license will be taken. With this season of the show, though, the writers have not only made up characters and plot lines, they’ve completely dislocated the entire tone and plot of the next 75% of the book series. The writers should be ashamed

@@nizzanator The reason we have the right to complain is cuz they sold this as an ADAPTAION, and very often said they would stick to the books, but hey if people can call us out on being purists, we can call you out on being suck ups for Netflix. And the main issue is the bad writeing as you mentioned.. No offence to you directly, but im just as pissed as you are, but im pissed at the people who think we are mad fanboys cuz it isnt copy paste -.-, no we are mad cuz they Butchered prexisting characters to the ground in this seasson.... Not to mention plot holes, plot lines that lead no where and portals being used as a plot device, that was a stupid idea. And on the point you said about saying how the differnces effected the show in a bad way: yenefer and vesemir are heartless bastards in the show, in the books they would never intentionaly hurt ciri, in the show they just have a change of heart cuz LOVE, its ok but lazy, they should have the love form the start. Nenekke is more mysterios and strict and when we finally see her warm and careing side it has a much bigger impact. Geralt was aight. Everything else is their own story that isnt even connected to the books. And the whole "elder blood flower for mutagens" is something that comes out of nowwhere and leads to Guess what.... nowhere literally nothing important comes of it, that chick drinks it and gg, and no witcher would ever WANT to put anyone through that becouse they know how horrible that is especialy vesemir, the witchers know they are a dying breed and in the books monsters are dying out not spawning even more often. The show makes it seem sometimes like witchers like being witchers (another difference with a negative effect cuz I think geralt says it in the show, that they didnt choose this life) they were forced into it (pls dont pull out the animated show as a reference, vesemir never said he came there willingly, i liked the animated movie tho, cuz from the start noone was Selling it like it was from the books.) And that flower is also something that doesn't exist the books, the mutagens are seacrets know only to the alchemysts and mages that are all dead, Witchers themsleves were never allowed to know how to make more witchers, and Thriss knowing the spell to make the mutagen isnt explained at all.... Makes it seem like its common knowlage, and I think everyone who read the books or only watched the show realises how uncommon it is and that everyone who knew this died. I think that was taken form the Uma quest form the game. There those are the differences that made the plot worse and felt bland, becouse half of it is shrugged off. there is much more like monoliths and that demon baba yaga, but those dont exist at all in the books so it is irrelevant for this, neather good nor bad imo, just different. And yenefer is completly different, and to me she didnt seem that strong until she gave her blood cuz of love, why even do the whole "betrayal" arc just to end on what was allready established in her character in the books is beyond me. They changed sooo much, and in the end half of it didnt have an impact on anything. In the books yenefer is asked by geralt teach ciri magic, and she comes to the temple and is a bit harsh and cold at the start, and then in time warms up to Ciri becouse all she ever wanted was a child and insted of focusing on that (and it was established EVEN IN Netflix SEASSON 1 that yenefer wants a child most of all) we got this slefish story of her wanting her magic and the whole mother doughter part was only shown in the last episode. And she doesn't lose her magic in the books, all of that was to push yens screen time. And one last thing something they could have changed (since they like changew so much) is that insted of thriss, Yenefer is the one that comes to kier mohren, and that could start their development, there if they wanted more screentime for her imo i would love too see more Yen and Ciri in the show , see? I dont mind changes ( I LOVED SEASON 1 even with the changes) as long as it isnt a hollow plot that honestly should feel cold to non book fans as well, ad I saw in some comment that this is true. ALSO a lot lot lot of problems with the Elfs, but no freckinh way can I add that to this Huge ass commemt.... There, no hate man, just defending us fanboys. I know its huge.... But this is the smallest way to show the negative side of the changes like you asked. Bb

Gotta remember that Ciri is in her early to mid 20s in Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, and a lot has happened since. Geralt and Yennifer are captured by the Wild and ride with them for a time, Ciri rescues them but both lose their memories (that's the start of The Witcher games) Ciri then goes on the run from the Wild hunt and has her own journey, finding Avalach and learning to travel through worlds trying hide, while Geralt's story continues in the games, we don't see Ciri for a long time after that.

I enjoyed your review, but you keep talking about the direction the series might go referencing the games. Excuse me, but aren't you aware that the show is first and foremost an adaptation of the books??? Though it seems that in between filming series 1 and 2 the show's producers got into some kind of agreement with the games' creators which means they can use some elements like designs etc., the main source of the show are still the books! In the words of the book's author, the games are a sort on non-canonical sequel to the novels. All the story lines in the games happen some years after the main events in the books. Season 3 will be based on the 4th book (and 2nd novel, the first 2 being collections of short stories), A Time of Contempt. Season 2 was mainly based on the first of the novels, Blood of Elves, and - changes notwithstanding - largely follows the main trajectory of that book. The appearance of the Wild Hunt at the end was actually taken from A Time of Contempt, and while the Hunt may well make another appearance in future seasons, it probably won't become a major player until the adaptation of the final book, The Lady of the Lake.

If you help someone out who tells you that he wants back his beloved wife and child, while secretly abusing them DOES NOT make a character grey. Just because love and hate are in 1 sentence does not mean that both really are depicted. Btw I dont see that Yen had a change of hart or broke the illusion. When Ciri and her touched Ciri could clearly feel what she was up to and ONLY THEN Yennerfer explained herself.

I really enjoyed it I love this show alot! I just really hope they fix the helmets of the wildhunt as I really enjoyed their look from the game which to me made them feel more menacing and dangerous to have to deal with.

Man season 2 was great. The highlight of the season to me was eveything with Kaer Morhen especially Vesemir and Geralt and Ciris relationship. You could see how she grows on him and also how the Witchers slowly grow to love her too. I can’t wait for season 3 i don’t wanna wait another 2 years!!!

I feel like this detail is easy to miss, but when Voleth was being extracted from Ciri everyone started fading into dust except Ciri's dad. As I was watching I was like "why is he not fading, he MUST be alive" and then at the end of the season I was like "YOOOO WTFFF I KNEW IT!"

Big issue with this show is the lack of exposition and in general giving the viewer enough information ,to understand what is going on. If u haven’t read the books or played the games u need to watch each season at least twice to be able to understand literally anything.

So true, I know the games and books and I'm watching with people who don't. So I often have to explain to those I'm watching with what's going on. The series really doesn't do that well. Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings did very well to introduce and explain their world.

I feel the same. After watching season one it was so good I read every book but the last and I just bought the game and occasionally play it on switch. I was really confused about her ancestry that I wrote down her family tree and I was excited but then let down every time that I saw a flash back in the show because I thought they would explain in detail who Lara doren was. I said now if I didn’t read the books I would not be able to understand that flash back and who this woman is bleeding holding this baby

You're able to enjoy the show only if you're not a fan of both the books and the games, if you have had an experienced with either of them you wouldn't like the second season at all.

Is anyone else bothered by how different they made the settings in season 2? Like Aretuza is unrecognizable now compared to how it was shown in season 1. Anyone else?

Interesting different view. I found it quite disappointing compared with S1 exactly because of lacking complexity and variety of perspectives in terms of individuals and times. S2 felt so ordinary and linear.. almost boring. Still glad that the series continues

Jaskiers music this season wasn't as catchy as first season. Honestly as a game fan, having the ending explaining how it's Emyrs daughter didn't leave it cliff hanging as they could have done just giving it closure
