Good review. I tried it a few different ways. It was fun to play with!

I wonder how it would behave if you made a longer radiator. I’ve made an 8m x 1” x 1/16” flat aluminium bar mag loop and it works pretty well on 40m Much cheaper than copper pipe

I have some copper tube for a larger radiator but have not tried that yet. And I can look for some aluminum sheet stock. 8m is definitely getting closer to 40m than the stock loop.

@@aa3konthegocopper is a little expensive for what you get compared to aluminium If you use tape on PVC it should be even cheaper, as, RF skin effect. The nice thing is aluminium has a slightly thicker skin effect depth than copper at the same frequency so the losses between the two aren’t as pronounced. Given the cost, you can always go for more surface area with aluminium

I think it’s worth pointing out this is not a magloop it’s a capacitor tuned (very compromised) loop One shouldn’t mistake this as a magnetic loop antenna.

I've stared at the schematic for this antenna and wondered how it relates to the traditional schematics I've seen.

I thought these were designed to attach directly to the radio.

It can be and I've used it that way. For this test I wanted to give a little room between my table of equipment and the antenna.
