When I was about 8 we had a days foraging at our village school and each were told a certain plant, leaf, bark etc to look for. Later we all made something from them. I was given nettle and told to make nettle soup. All the other kids laughed at me for having to use nettle. But the nettle has stayed with me my whole life, as a teacher, food, tea, medicine, cordage and fibre for spinning and weavjng. I loved this video. Thankyou for making it

Hi. My mother came from the West Meath side of Dublin before moving to the UK, or, having to flee!. She is 87 and still going strong even after 12 children. 5 Generations to be exact. She fills us with many stories of the past, working as the 6 year old in the peat bogs, bringing a slab home for a penny a day. No utilities, schools or a food source. Making life , love and friendship from many areas. She talked about clovers, the sweet taste from childhood, many plants that kept them going and the many hardships they faced. She is a wealth of knowledge, just like yourself and an inspiration as I have my first allotment. You are very inspiring and I love your content as it takes me back to my mothers tales and the songs she sings in between. Thank you X

Hello. I'm in the USA. I was gifted a Roku stick for my birthday in March. I picked into your videos on youtube and have not stopped watching them. My Cherokee and Irish grandmothers helped me learn herbs when I was 18. I have dabbed in herbs my whole life but due to misfortunes in life I lost contact with me. I have a patch of nettles that are about 10 yrs old. I made your nettle soup. I was blown away to how delicious it is. Your videos have restarted my life. My brother got me started with honey bees a couple years ago. Life is looking up for me. I can't even begin to tell you how appreciated I am for you. My spirit is alive again. Thank you so much. Keep bringing the knowledge and Spirit. 🌻🐝🐓

I never appreciated Nettles for years. When I was a child, my Grandmother would send me down to the bottom of the garden to collect nettles, which she threw into soups, stews, and tea - not once did I ever think that the fierce stinging that assaulted my legs, hands, arms and even my face was beneficial in any way!! I do love them now though. Another great video - you really do pack them with a great variety of information -from history, to medicinal, to cooking. You even matched the soup in that gorgeous green shawl .

Lovely video Terri. I became interested in the uses of nettles many years when I read an article by an 80+ gentleman who cured his hip pain by stinging himself with it. At that time I had sciatica which was ruling my life.... long story short - I stung my hip and leg for a period of time - and it really worked.. I sting myself frequently just to keep things ticking over. I think it may also act as a blood purifier. Had a good old sting yesterday. Picked some nettles for Lady Ridley's soup. Makes delicious soup.. love your videos.. XX

My nettle story... When I was young, just starting a family of my own An elderly lady friend of the family that I barely knew came for a visit to my house. She noticed I had nettles growing in my garden. At that point I knew very little about them. She asked if she could have a good sized handful of them and I was more than happy to share. When we had collected up a nice sized bunch she proceeded to pull down her pants and bend over and promptly asked me to whack her on her hips and backside with them. 😳👁👁 I quickly recovered from my shock, as she explained that their stings are very helpful to relieve her aches and pains in that area... 🤩😂 Although she is gone now I’ve loved her and Nettles ever since 💝✨💖💫 Can we use dried nettles in stock and strain them out ? Will they still have some medicinal and healing properties using them that way? Thank You for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with us... 💝

Layer your nettles into a vegetarian lasagna - or even a meat lasagna. They are absolutely amazing in this! I blanched many last year & then froze them for cooking with later. Have already been out harvesting nettles this year, the younger shoots. I use them in food, teas, soaps, skin care & hair care products & much more. Really an amazing plant! Time to go harvesting again before they get really big. They're fine for teas when larger, but can get quite tough & fibrous for cooking with at that stage.

The soup looks delicious. I'm definately going to make it. We have tons of nettles on our grounds. A few days ago we asked a farmer to clear the one plot which looked like a jungle gone wrong. I was dragging fallen branches to make a pile. I was also collecting dandelions, and bent down to pick some flowers. I didn't notice I was sticking my hands into nettles. It stung like crazy for hours. My thumb and index finger were on fire. 😂😂 I wasn't wearing my gloves. I know nettles are a good weed but didn't know what to do with them. Nettle soup it is. Thank you. 😁

This sounds lovely you said saute the nettles like spinach and it was the heat that takes the sting out is that the same with the boiling. Sorry I've never used nettles as an herb always just on the burn Bank where I got stung by them I think this sounds very interesting and wonderful

A few years ago I found some nettles at my farm, and brought some home to plant in my backyard. They've been such a joy to have. So versatile. Teas, smoothies, in stir-fry and omelettes. I'm going to make this soup tonight on a chilly Spring day. Thanks so much Danu!

I love your videos Terri, I don’t have nettle in my garden but spotting beautiful lush growths near where I live so will forage a little on my next walk. I’m really focused on my health and reducing my sugar intake, your videos are so inspiring. Thank you x

Nettle one of the best mutli purpose edible plants, re the Fibres apparently in one of world wars the German Army uniforms were made of Nettle fibre. I have a feeling that I remember reading that Nettle was in the same family as Hemp, which we know is used for its fibre (etc).

I had just viewed an episode on nettle tea and then I watched this video. I too am astounded by your lovely approach to a more simple approach to life in general. In particular, I was curious about ‘stinging’ with nettle to relieve arthritis. The entire episode I was drawn to your shawl and wondered if you had made it. Today is a day off from knitting to give my hands a break. I will definitely be sourcing nettle for a multitude of issues where I believe it will of help. Thank you!😊

Yes, having Nettles is regarded as a good sign. They are full of minerals and of course, share them out with their neighbours because of their long roots.

Yum. I've started some Nettle inside this Winter and cannot wait to put the plants outside at our planting time (May)
