i think i need to clarify it isn't bocci's social anxiety that made her terrible in a band. it was the fact that she spent 3 years practicing 6 hours a day ALONE she has basically conditioned herself to take it at her own pace and make improvs on the fly to the pieces she plays. that is a big difference from playing in a band where all members in the band HAVE to be in sync you can't just go off on your own in a band or it ruins the beat of the band. it throws off the rhythm. even at the end of the anime adaption bocchi STILL isn't as good at playing in a band as she is playing solo. its even explained in the very beginning. hitori is an amazing guitarist but she sucked terribly at a band level, or as they put it, "less than a water flea", her social anxiety is just another layer preventing her from being on the same level as "guitarhero" when playing in a band. the band members recognize that she is amazing at guitar. its just she needs to learn to translate that experience with solo performance to playing in a band. that is why they still want her after that first performance

8:08 I was in a fanfiction writer's skype group. One of the "founding members," technically, but all anyone wanted me there for was my English Major, so long as it benefited _them._ So I spent over a year constantly jumping through hoops and bending over backwards to edit, proofread, format, and sometimes full-on _write entire chapters_ for other peoples' stories. I could never get anyone to look at my ideas, or proofread my chapters. I took a week off (because my family was going camping), and when I got back I had hundreds of DMs calling me all kinds of horrible names and slurs, while the friend I'd started the group with told me I was being kicked for "misconduct," "spamming," and "attention whoring." I lost a lot of my self-esteem at that point, a majority of my online friend group, and... a huge weight of expectation I hadn't realized was killing me. I'm still struggling to find my voice as an author, but none of _their_ stories have updated since, either-I was the only reason their fanfics were limping forward.

I think this message is really important. It's really easy to get caught in doomerism and self-depreciating thoughts but often times, there are places and ways to find kindness where you need it. Even if everything else seems like a terrifying nightmare for Bocchi, there's still people and places where she ignore all that.

"acceptance is contingent on performance," the idea of internally putting walls between people we meet, and just overall self perception were tackled so well, good vid

bocchi the rock is very special and i feel you did a great job capturing what makes it special, its not necessarily the animation or music or gags or even characters themselves. its the downtime it all gets, bocchi isnt always at 100% even if it may feel like it is. as a musician with horrible horrible social anxiety who for years tried to peg myself as someone who im not this show really did connect with me. alot of it comes down to the quiet moments and the performances. god. the performances are phenomenal. they perfectly capture all of the emotions that performing live gives you its really crazy! theyre always treated seriously and as realistic performances and i think they wouldnt hit as hard if it werent for how insane the show usually is. sorry for writing a mini essay in the comments lol :P also as a bassist can confirm. do not give me your money

Watching Bocchi the rock made me realize how much I truly love my instrument, I first started playing because of k-on a year ago and now watching Bocchi and relating to her struggles and experiences this much made me realize how much I love the guitar Note: it’s been 3 months now and I still haven’t been able to find a black 611vfm

Haha. I ended up just buying a red 611vfm after finishing this. I love the guitar but it's wild to me that people *still* can't find it in black.

I realized, after watching this show, that I really need an electric guitar... I can't play their songs on classical guitar, it's limited in what it can play.

Bocchi The Rock is K-On for zoomers. It honestly feels like this came out at the perfect time in an era of people too cynical and afraid of the world. If Bocchi can make the effort, no matter how small, to change and positively impact those around her, so can you.

Electric guitar would be such a difficult skill to use as a conversation starter! Tragic that her band merch didn't work, either. I should probably count myself lucky that my "plz talk to me" highschool freshman skill was "drawing", and that some kind classmates in a laid-back class actually took an interest in talking to me as a result of seeing me doodle. I found I could talk to them a little and they were relaxed while talking to me. And that they didn't "use" me for my skill, either. They were just quirky people who found another quirky person. It was a major step for me in my ability to connect with other people. All in all, I do recommend being genuinely, harmlessly weird in public* for this reason - you might find people with compatible genuine weirdnesses. You might find that people like your groove. (*As long as you're not in middle school, I still can't fathom what the fuck is wrong with middle schoolers other than being "smart enough to be mean, not mature enough to realize they shouldn't". Thank goodness this series takes place in high school??)

Ive always loved how the lyrics always reflect how Bocchi feels unseen and unwanted, but every time those lyrics come up, she does something, or is assured by someone that she should be seen, and that she is wanted. That she is, and always will be, an incredible person.

Oh god I relate so much... no wonder I fantasize about being the opposite gender so much too! It's cause of a sense that, as a male, you're usually(not always of course as both Bocchi herself and heck, even her voice actor) defined by what your interests and skills are and... ok maybe it's more of a capitalist thing where you want people to work instrumentally rather than together... But point still stands, this message is an important one and all too overlooked in todays society of quick amazing feats with 0 personality or earnt success... and oh boy, this sure does tie into how a few men may mistakenly think they're trans like I did...! Don't worry, I only thought it, I didn't take estrogen or anything outward, just VR Chat shinanigans is all I did... P.S. I'd still do all that now probably(as I really havn't moved on per say, I just know I'm not trans), and would be interested in being more outward, but also feel outwardly embarassed about doing that... best to hide my face and identity in Kigurumi, BUT that shit is expensive! And I also lack the desire to do so + order in my life... I'm pretty curious nonetheless tho
