In the face of ruin there is an odd sense of calm. There is a moment of tranquility where you are unsure as to what to do. A moment where you know it’s about to end but your not sure what to do before. This is the moment we find ourselves. The few minutes of peace knowing there is no further need to worry yet not knowing how to spend those moments. A time of goodbyes and acceptance. The moment where you see it coming from the distance and instead of running you wait, because you know you can’t outrun them. Knowing you did everything you could, and knowing you did it correct. It was enough, you did it.

I’m going to write something a bit different. This story is called *Radio Host* You place a record down, the CDs to be used later. For now you wanted this vintage sound. Adjusting the knobs you put on your headphones, leaning into the microphone. “Good evening my loyal listeners. I do hope this broadcast finds you well this evening. As a treat for surviving another day we have some songs to guide you through the times.” The needle fell into the grooves and the sweet music started to play, the comforting melody of I don’t Want to set the World on Fire playing. You leaned back in your chair, a soft smile as you listened. This record was a creation of your own making, a loving amalgamation of your CDs’ songs. There were no more streaming services, no more internet. For all you knew the radio was one of the last things standing. At least your radio. Yes, up in your tower you were safe from the lumbering abominations that now roamed the earth’s surface. Your tower was fortified and the monsters had difficulty climbing. Over the years you had made your tower sustainable, salvaging, pillaging, and gaining help from travelers who could never stay. But now you were safe with a rain collector, solar panels, and even a farming area. It wasn’t much but it was enough. Looking up you saw that enough time had passed to make an interruption. Thus you sat back up, gently stopping the record for now. “Well my darlings, that’s certainly a way to start off an evening. Now then, for the rest of tonight I won’t interrupt you any more. However, I have obtained information to share with you all. Some supposed safe havens.” As you continued to speak, relaying this information, you wondered if this was even real. Was there anyone left alive? For years you had been giving out information to supposed safe havens, locations given to you by adventurers and travelers. Yet your visitors who used to be quite frequent had now dwindled to nobody. You could only hope that there were others still out there. That those fortresses still stood. “That’s all for tonight. You stay safe out there. From here on out until tomorrow will just be music. Goodnight.” **You turned back on the record and went outside of your tower, looking over the balcony of that wasteland, the symphony of the damned accompanying your music.

Alternatively: The world had been announced to die in two hours. That had been an hour and fifty minutes ago. The final minute was almost eerily silent as everyone held their breath. No one spoke a word as the deadline approached and left. No one died. No one except his world. The girl he loved had died in his arms from a deadly disease. Her last words were a promise that they would meet again. A deadly promise, for not a minute later, he died from a deadly poison he had ingested.

We all sat around the fire- atop the Apartment complex. The three of us had managed to outrun the dead; however all of our ammo was wasted frivolously shortly before we had to go. Jeremy and Ian both were bitten- they share one final drink, reminiscing of times before the fall. As the night progresses; so does the infection. The three share one final embrace and one more shot. I have the job of... dispatching them once they turned. I just shoved them off into the thousands of infected below; they would break through the rest of the apartment building before day broke. I cried a bit before gathering my things and the small remainder of the food and water they had left. I had one magazine of .45 left- which wasn't even fully loaded; only 3 rounds. I chuckle as I remember the time showing Jeremy and Ian it for the first time- though, that was long ago. I smile a bit before shaking my head. I stamp out the fire and walk to the edge of the building- I here the mumbles and groans of the many undead below me... as well as their shining amber eyes, as if they were waiting for their next meal. I sit on the edge and lean forwards- teetering. I pull the radio from my backpack and turn it on- and to my surprise there's a voice- a woman; she must be near. I look around and see a mountain far above the city- I have no idea how I missed it but it seems fortified. Maybe- maybe we can win this. -You walk around the dilapidated building, and you find a notebook; it looks hastily written and you can't help but wonder if he survived. As you read through it you see that it is your grandfather's name printed on the on the first page! You're surprised to find this, seeing as this was over 50 years ago, but it was in several bags. You wander back to the mountain- listening to the radio as you clamber up it. Wondering what managed to save his life all those years ago...

And as the world goes up in smoke, the radio shall play forevermore, bringing a sense of calm to the listener which can never again tune in for their song
@mummifiedbutterfly
3 ай бұрын
(This is the first time I have tried this.) Your radio continues to play as you sit in your bunker. It's playing tunes that have now become forgotten ever since the bomb dropped. People are now way more concerned about if their food has expired, is it safe to go outside, or if they have enough water to last a month or so. Everyone is too occupied to even consider activities like playing music. Still, you find some comfort in this radio. Not because you want to run away from reality, but because this is the only fragment of the old world. The radio is in this constant state of blissful ignorance, always stuck in the past. But you can't stop yourself from listening. You can only switch between a few channels now. All the stations that were broadcasting the others were either desecrated by the bomb, or abandoned by fleeing evacuators, desperate to delay the inevitable. The radio has replaced all other human connection. It now represents an optimistic friend who hasn't been completely broken by reality. But you're not a radio, you're a human. A human that can think and feel sadness. You need to bear the pain if you want to live long enough to feel joy. But you're reluctant to, you're reluctant because you've seen it all and want no involvement in it. So you turn to things to distract yourself like this radio, and it's the only option. If the radio breaks, you'll feel like you lost a friend, because your radio is your only friend. If it breaks right now, you'll want to stop living, because the radio and the old world gave you a purpose. Without them, you feel like your life was for nothing, your existence would be meaningless. Because in a meaningless apocalypse like this, you need it. You are the radio, and the radio is you.

“Usually, when my shift drags into the late hours of the night, I work my way through a handful of cigarettes in a few minutes. Yet, I nurse the last of my pack for about five minutes tonight. Got to make em last now, after all. I doubt the corner shop’s gonna get a fresh batch of Virginia Slims after the bombs fell. Taking one final, long drag of it, I savor the flavor for a few seconds and slowly let the smoke drift from my lips. As the grey wisps fade into the chilly night air, I look up into the sky. You know, all of the movies and shows about the end, they never mention how… pretty things would be. Feels a bit morbid to say but, when the city lights go out, you can see so many stars. For maybe the first time in my life, I realize the night sky isn’t black. Or at least, it’s not just black. It’s blue, purple, and dozens of other colors, all dotted with pin pricks of light. We might be gone. Things may have changed. But they didn’t really end. The world, the stars, the universe, just keeps ticking right along. What really changed was just our place in it. I should probably get back in the radio tower. I’ve left the machine on auto pilot for a while. But, I think I’ll stay a bit longer. It’s not like I need to play commercials anymore. I’ll just take in the view. I got time, after all. All the time in the world.”

The sun shining bright, birds chirping and singing. Nothing could go wrong on such a sweet and beautiful day. People were walking in the street, their feet clacking on the cement and their loud speaking being oddly calming. The breeze was quite cool and felt nice on the skin. Victor was sitting at a table outside a cafe and drinking a cup of steaming hot coffee. He was enjoying his afternoon, reading a newspaper and just relaxing while he could. He was already in his forties and a university professor. He didn’t have much free time in his life other than vacations. He sat there calmly till she saw a handsome man sitting on a bench nearby. "Where to, then?" the raven-haired girl asks. "I'm not sure. we weren't given specific coords. Just "Sweet place" on this paper." "Damn. he's horrible at this." a laugh. "You'll get used to it, trust me." The sun sets upon a broken landscape, one full of the corpse of a once-great city. now home to renegades and creatures beyond human comprehension. the sight of clouds gently floating by, filling an orange sky with streaks of fluffy white, makes her feel something. she doesn't know how to describe it. but it's... a beautiful, bittersweet feeling. she's half-glad, half-frustrated her new friend can see her oogle at it. a laugh comes from the other woman. "you like the sky, don't you...?" "i mean, i barely ever saw it before i met you. the strongholds are all underground." "the bunkers are called strongholds...?" the redhead chuckles. "yeah. i dunno, fancy unique naming conventions or whatever. it's weird, but fitting." "huh." the sun teases the horizon as the skies slowly but surely dim, and for the first time, she sees what stars are like. it's beautiful. the end of the world, and this raven-haired woman still finds beauty in it. the redhead needs to take lessons from her, she thinks. "i didn't know what i was missing until... this." "it's beautiful, isn't it..?" "more than anything."

POV: You woke up, there's just a vast open desert, unlike the place you fell asleep in. You look around the desert that you have somehow become stranded in, and you see a glimmer of light. As you approach it, you realise that all that is left is a radio, playing it's small selection of songs. It's the only thing to help calm you down, so you decide to take it with you. You begin to travel around, but after what felt like years you come to the realisation. It's all gone. No moon, no life, no buildings. This was the end, and somehow instead of facing the calming death the others had, you are forced to walk through the unending desert, hoping that one day you'll blink, and you can finally be laid to rest.

POV: War gone wrong There was a war taking place that had been going on for 10 years. In desperate times, technology grows stronger. The country that started the whole war threatened to kill everybody and everything on the planet if the deemed hero country wouldn't do as the dictator said. The hero country, for obvious reasons, didn't want to follow through with that, so decided to set up an assassination, but it failed horribly. This would be known as the day that would destroy everyone and everything that stood in it's way. The population has already decreased horribly from the war's beginning, but apparently this wasn't enough for the dictator. The hero country sent out someone to go kill this dictator, but as the assassin went to shoot, the dictator had ducked down at the right moment. Shit! That damn lucky bastard is always getting away. Here's the catch though, the bullet went through the window and hit a bomb that had been sitting behind the dictator that they've been building for years. The bullet went right through the first bomb and, then the second, and then the third. The explosion was a slow process, depending on where you lived. If you were close, instant death. If you were far? You had to suffer the agonizing pain of being burnt and watching family and friends get tortured around you. When the bombs first exploded, there was a loud BOOM sound that traveled almost instantly around the globe. This set everyone off. Everyone screamed and panicked as their nuclear sirens went off, just making everyone else scared, but some person hacked into the systems of their town and replaced the siren sounds with music to try and sooth them. As the music blared across the roads, people saw the sky turn shades of oranges and Yellows. Mothers and fathers were holding their children close. Couples sobbed into each other shoulders. Children held onto their family members as they watched the sky Everyone had went silent. The systems stopped playing. Everyone stared in awe The birds stopped flying The people stopped crying The animals stopped running across from street to street. Everything stared and looked up at the sky, accepting their fate. Everyone except one person who had stayed in a fallout shelter. He heard the commotion above. He heard how everything went silent. He heard the town burst into flames. He was the guy who tried to make everyone feel safe. No one would believe him. He knew that this would happen. He knew about the end of the world. He felt awful. Part of him wanted to go back up, but the other part didn't want to see he had done. After all, he did build the bombs to help with the hero countries. The allies. It wasn't his fault that the enemy found the formulas and directions, right? None of it was his fault, but he couldn't help but feel anything of guilt. As each day passed, he got skinnier due to lack of food left in his shelter. His lips were as dry and a Sahara desert from dehydration. Out of just desperateness, he unlocked his shelt, spinning the gear in circles. He peaked out. It was completely orange and still in flames. Not a drop of rain. No one's body could even be found. Just...fire. he got out and began walking around. After about 5 minutes, he began coughing. His stomach began knotting up. *Must be thirsty and hungry?* He thought. 5 more minutes had passed. He began feeling lightheaded. *I'm starving..* 3 more minutes passed and he felt as if his skull was being caved in. 2 minutes after that and he could barely stand. He was suffering. *WHAT IS THIS?* He thought. He could barely speak due to not drinking or even having a conversation with someone in 7 years. After 16 minutes and 34 seconds total, the guy dropped down dead. Now the world was truly silent ((A.N. Guys it's 11:44pm.. I'm going to bed 💀)

POV: You wake up in the morning per usual, nothing different, nothing odd. But this morning felt different from the rest. You make your way to your living room listening to the news, sipping a cup of coffee. While listening to the news you hear a large emergency broadcast ping, "We...we have live reports coming in.. it's been confirmed of an atomic bombing confirmed in.. New York and Las Vegas... oh God.." the man is trembling on the news. Your heart sinks. Around your city there were vaults made for future atomic accidents as the country had been in war already for a while. You had served time in the army which made you a guest on any of the vault lists in case of any accidents. You lived very close to one and start running towards the vault entrance where military personal where guiding people into the vault doors. You are guided onto a small platform where other people are standing on as well waiting to go into the vaults. Air raid sirens are going off and people are screaming and crying wondering what will happen if they don't make it into the vaults. People are standing at gates not being let onto the platform as they where not on the guest list. You look into the city and see a large flash of light, a slight boom and then large crashing. The platform starts moving down and a huge gust of blast wind, filled with fire and debris moves towards you all. The platform barely makes its way all the way down so you're not hit. The platform moves down and down until you come to a rough stop. Your safe, at least you think... What will happen in the vaults? Is it really safe? Are we all safe? He and his beloved were in the kitchen, a place where they loved to spend time, either chatting or simply listening to the tranquility that the radio offered, the news caught them by surprise but instead of getting scared, They began to dance, they promised themselves a thousand and one things to do in eternity, the radio slowly turned off while their earth was engulfed by the black hole.

Most imagine the end as utter chaos, but I personally think it will be silent… people will stop, they will know it’s the end, and will just sit back to watch in their final moments

Love this playlist! I also think "As the World Caves In" by Matt Maltese and "Silver and Gold" by City and Colour would fit the vibe

You run into an old repair shop, and slam the doors shut. As the dozens of cold rotting hands paw at the door and the adrenaline leaves your body, you hear a soft sound resonating from a radio in the other corner. You walk over to turn up the music. A song comes on… it is her favorite… or at least it was. You start to dance, and your vision goes dark… then you hear “Ah, there you are, I’ve been waiting for you.” You turn around to see her standing, just as beautiful as ever. “Care to dance?” She asks. You nod and walk over, tears in your eyes, and start to dance. As the song comes to an end you look around and see many couples dancing, and you now are in a large ballroom. She puts her hand on your cheek and says, “Welcome home.” -a random stranger

Enormous noise and crashing is to be heard in the distance, screams of loved ones and unknown ones fill the echos of these damned halls. With shaky hands and breath, a cigarette is passed around “two puff pass” a stranger says in these final moments. “Oh and..to lighten the mood, might as well try?” The radio is clicked on, an older man with frail boned skinny hands adjusts the antenna, static..static..song? “We’ll meet again, don’t know where don’t know whennnn” the screams calm down, only some soft cries are heard, “hey..who all knows this song?” Around 20 people put their hands up. “Sing with me won’t you? It’s our last day..let’s celebrate…” a hesitation to start is clear, but people soon realize it is in fact their last day, so what the hell why not, suddenly the halls seem light and more full and close, and together as an assortment of voices begin to sing, bass alto and soprano voices, soft and raspy long and round, all equally embracing, calming everyone in the room, no one notices how hot the area is, how bright it’s getting and how fast their fate is coming.

this first and second song is actually in fallout. fallout is about when the world has ended/fallen apart for decades and humanity still stands but laws are gone and some people turn into cannibals or ghouls to survive or because they've gone mad.

I’m in pain. My actions have brought me to a wicked place. I can't seem to fade the scars of wounds That I used to think were only scrapes. Really, they were cuts, So deep into my chest that My heart had been removed and taken from me. You'd think that a person would Realize that they were being cut open; Gushing from the inside out. Yet I didn’t notice. Not at all. -Wynnie Valentine

Knowing that the world will die so close to my lifetime is truly something else. There's nothing I can do anymore. Stephen Hawking has told us our fate, and warned us what not to do, as we do it anyways. Bye bye world. I honestly don't think humans were meant to survive, and the only reason we did is because of the fact that we were more agressive than other animals. The world would be better off without humans. We killed it. Everything is dying and it's all our faults. There's nothing we can even do anymore. It's just a slow crawl towards death. 111 years. One hundred and eleven. And then all living things on this earth will be gone. Good night everyone, hope you don't have to witness it}

as the new race creeps over the top surface with oddly good new connection informing you about your doom you sit in your garage-like basement, take a cigar, turn on the radio, and simply wait for death. you never felt scared of death, but you are still upset about it for some reason. was it that one project? never finding true love? no. you didn't care about those things. you wonder why you didn't accept it earlier. you sit and sit and sit. you fall asleep at some point, maybe around 10:45 pm, and you don't wake up.

Bro- this is literally a Fallout playlist, nobody puts I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire by The Ink Spots as the first song unless it's Fallout inspired. I refuse to believe it
