Jerrel Sustaita Artist Statement 2022
The world is my studio.
And now, is beautiful enough.
These two statements sum up my painting philosophy. What better time to paint than now. After all, now is all we have. If the world is my studio, then I can paint anywhere. Anywhere can be beautiful. I have found when I stop to look at the details, I see more than I ever imagined possible. I get a thrill out of painting and interacting with people. I love to exhibit my works in person and meet people, but I also have my own Live Painting Show, which I broadcast on my social media under Live Local Artist.
My best paintings occur when the energy of the environment makes its way onto my canvas. Live music, open patios, people and beautiful architecture are among the subjects I find most inspiring. My method is straightforward, I show up and get down. I try to find picturesque scenes to paint. Oftentimes I drive around for hours looking for a painting to make. Sometimes to no avail. When I do find a good spot. I use a French Easel and paint in a traditional manner using brushes on canvas. For the most part, I like to think I am the latest in the tradition that stems from Degas, Manet, Monet, and Vincent Van Gogh. They were eager to share their art with the world. I am dedicated to sharing a vision of art that is central to community, culture and the advancement and ideas. Someone once said something about standing on the shoulders of giants… I find this to be true, and from up here, the world looks beautiful.
My name is Jerrel Sustaita.
I used to go by Sustaita Studio, but that’s such a long name to type in to Google. I enjoy painting live sessions and showing up at local places and broadcast live painting sessions. So hence, Live Local Artist came to be.
Painting is a great way to look at and focus on the beauty of the world around me. I enjoy painting live in open settings because, The world is my studio. (Don’t get me wrong, I’ll paint in my home base studio too.)
A La Plein Air style, pioneered by the French impressionist - no doubt spurred on by invention,
adventure and technology. Is an idea I carry on in my own way by sharing and streaming my painting
process live through social media.
