I must point out one MAJOR correction that's been brought to my attention on a couple of occasions: Apparently, packattack's 2:09 was actually performed in 2005 (as seen on cyberscore) but not uploaded to his youtube until 2008. That's right - he was even more ahead of his time than I initially anticipated! I'll take the L on this one for taking the youtube upload date at face value, but on that same token, you could argue that 2008 is the "official" date since that's when video proof showed up. So while 2008 is "correct" by modern proof standards, the 2005 date is definitely worth noting. That aside, I really appreciate the highly positive response this video has received! :)

These videos are phenomenal. Ive always been a mild fan, and tuned in to a couple streams here and there, and watched the very popular agdqs. You’re also the reason I barely began to try speed running the game back in college (although I quickly stopped due to workload). But man, I never knew how good you were at these video essay type things. This and the two main category videos on the run history are expertly made. You manage to characterize every key player, make things easily understandable, and despite being a key figure yourself, remain relatively unbiased. My respect goes out to you my guy.

I may be a little late to the party here, but it's always a joy to watch your speedrun history videos, even without otherwise being the slightest bit involved in the scene. Your ability to convey your deep knowledge of the inner workings of the runs and the history of the community alike really elevates your work, and the obvious love for your community you bring along with that is a _delight._ Kudos. I'll even rewatch your old stuff every year or so for that reason. ^_^

I just watched three of your SMS speedrun history videos and I am blown away. I knew speedrunning has been going on for a long time (and how wild it can get, esp in 3D games nowadays) but seeing one of my favorite GameCube games be busted like this is incredible. Even moreso seeing how the glitches and skips were discovered, considered, discarded, then brought back later when other compatible methods were found. Thank you so much for making these!!!!

I highly appreciate this. I bought SMS back in 2002 when it was brand new, for my first console (Gamecube). It has remained one of my favorite Mario games of all time due to its unique mechanics (utilization of FLUDD), unique characters, excellent music, and memorable graphics. I remember always feeling like one of the few that loved the game while everyone else was seemingly screaming how it was a bastardization of the Mario franchise and wasn't considered a true Mario game. Although I'm not familiar with the SMS community, your videos prove just how much love this game has received over the years, and in a weird way, just knowing that kind of brings me peace. Thanks again for a fantastic video... I look forward to more in the future!

Honestly, this is better content. Hour 20 lore heavy cinematic videos are precious- they are work of arts that I should fill a fully local server hosted webpage and upload them to it as part of a museum of experiences to have before any being transitions to the q-digital ether of thoughtless and peaceful recycling of information at the interdimensional scale, but though they would be up there with Jon Bois's classics.. even dorktown got bite sized. And that is not a criticism. I think the legendary work has come, and gone, and may return. For now, I like the little lab highlight/video essay/internet person biopic content that bounces comfortably around the neighborhood of 00:29:00. I dearly hope you hit the outside algorithm with this format. And- are you aware of the two channels I mentioned? SB nation is also a name in that topic- this whole theme of this comment is from Jon Bois' various content. Somethin about sports x nerds just brings out the hella cool life story moments... It's like, "Hey come here and learn this set of parameters, and here's what happens if we twist the dials on pragmatic arbitrary decisions and the human brain just stars seeing *MAGIC* happening, assured at the fact that regardless of importance to the outside world- THIS actually happened and may even be yet to happen and maybe even yet involves YOU, and at any age. It's just fucking phenomenal. Anyone reading this- GO CONSUME JOIN BOIS CONTENT TOO after you clear out the good meat off the speedrun history long videos around if you're new- but AFTER the classics on vidja- GO WATCH JON BOIS! Watch dorktown! Go look up "there is no future in football" and get ready to have a trippy ass web-'article'. I can't wait for new content average trey, and new content from your friends in various mari/vg speedruns. I hope the shorter format of vids like this are easier to make. The community involvement of available youtube comments/descriptions and discord messages we have right now adds such a right-now-and-alive feel that I haven't seen in much content since 2013!
