It was a woman, BTW. As far as getting a larger room for free, I thought that the room you did get was wonderful, but pretty small. The even smaller room you were going to get originally would have been a bit claustrophobic for me. But then I heard that the room cost under $30 USD per night, which is ridiculously cheap. If you plan to spend every day walking around and enjoying the city outside, all you really need for your room is a good bed and a nice bathroom, which you got. Under $30 USD is such a great deal!!

It’s very common for chinese to call each other “handsome” and “pretty”, which is a newer habit since (maybe) 20 years ago. @@JayandKarolina Chinese are polite folk and light flattery is a common part of our speech. Shuai-ge literally means Handsome Brother, which we use to address most younger men, while Mei-Nu means "pretty woman" and we use that to address younger females. Once you get older in age, we tend to use honorifics which reflect more respect in deference to their age. If we go into a shop, we will often address a clerk as "Mr. Owner" even though we know he just works there as a clerk. It is a polite fiction that permeates our society. So, yes, as a young guy you will often be called Shuai-Ge, which your Google Translate will probably translate as "Handsome Guy". Not to say you are not handsome, haha, but pretty much everyone gets that.

In China's own surveys, they say that over 90% of the people approve of their government. In Western "polls", 100% of Chinese live in misery, abject poverty, and people walk down decrepit streets, head bowed, as they live under the merciless whip of the government. Since they are not "free", ALL Chinese are, by definition, unhappy. But China has opened its borders to tourism, and if you have access to KZitem, you have seen a thousand vlogs like this one. China's streets are bright, vibrant, and modern. The cities are an amazing blend of tradition and culture, mixed with ultramodern infrastructure and living spaces. Its parks are breathtaking, its restaurants are endless. Most importantly, all of these vlogs show people in the background who are prosperous, friendly, and happy. They are just going about their business, at work or at play, and many smiles can be seen. In fact if you look at the faces of the people in China, you will see many more smiles than you will see in any Western city. Our people walk around in safety. They are not clutching their handbags in fear of being robbed. They feel comfortable talking to strangers. They are living in a society that protects them, help provide for them, and offer them a place to live a good life and improve it if they are willing to work. In many ways, China is exactly the opposite of how it is portrayed in the West. But as more and more people actually travel to China and see things with their own eyes, more and more of the image created by Western media, that China is a horrible place, will be exposed as a lie.

@@davidmacbeth4997 What most people don’t get this downturn was by design by the Chinese Government In China in 2008 around 70% of the people in their real estate markets were buying their 1st homes in their cities By 2018 around 70% of the people in their real estate markets were buying their 2nd and 3rd homes in their cities That’s why you are hearing about problems with their property developers these days. Because back in 2010? Their Central Government started cutting of money flow to these developers. Thus why you heard about Shadow Banks and Underground Economy back then, that their Government had to come into to shutdown or regulate. Even then, It took them almost 14 years to get their overheated real estate under control Heck they were about to introduce a nation wide property tax, but then trump started the trade war in 2018 Why is their Central Government doing this? Because there are still a few hundred million poorer rural folk they still expect to move to the cities to join their more well off urban city folk countrymen. Problem is these property developers were building higher end homes, and not building the affordable homes these rural migrants will need In China Owning a home in the city you migrate to? Affects your employment, health, education and even marriage prospects don’t have a house you don’t get married Thus the common prosperity push and the crackdown on the overt displays of wealth in China Their Government probably figured out you disenfranchise the people at the bottom of your society they are the ones most likely to act out in protest

Hey hope you have a blast in Chongqing! That hotel looks really nice. And with great value for the money too. As general advice for first time China travellers, if you don't know what hotels to book in major chinese cities, go with the local 3-star hotel chains for price range between rmb250 to 400. That's the safest choice. They all come as clean, modern and conveniently located. You won't ever find grand ball rooms or michellin star restaurants in those, but they are absolutely lovely for a few days' staying.

I enjoyed your video. I don't mean this in a bad way but you guys are SUCH beginners in terms of traveling to China, haha. But at least you figured out the WeChat pay system so you can pretty much buy anything and go anywhere. You hit all the typical tourist spots in ChongQing, including that "OMG I am not on the ground floor, I am on the 22nd floor!!" spot. It really is mind blowing, isn't it? You guys hit a lot of food courts and what we call "eating streets", and that's great. You can really try out foods of different varieties there. But, as beginners, rabbits heads and fried scorpions are definitely not for you. At least, not yet, haha. As with all vlogs made by Westerners traveling to China, you found that Chinese people are happy to smile at foreigners, and not a few f them are willing to engage with you for picture taking and, if possible, conversation. We are friendly people, and we appreciate guests to our country. Seems like you had a great time. But as you already know, the experiences of visiting Shanghai, Beijing or ChongQing are very different. There are MANY more cities and provinces you can visit in China, and they can be so different that you will feel like you are visiting another country entirely. So, come back. Come visit us again. You are always welcome!

Some noodles it’s unlucky to break, especially on birthdays, as it symbolizes your life and if you break the noodle it means cutting your life short. Now I’m scared to bite my noodles instead of slurping hahaha

In some places in China, people call young strangers (especially in the service industry) "handsome boy" or "beautiful girl " to show friendliness and respect. But the boy forgot a comma when translating the word "handsome boy". He actually meant to call you "handsome boy" instead of himself. Have a nice trip here!🥰😃😄❤

Go to Qingdao and Changsha at night near the beach. It's another insane cyberpunk/ futuristic city like Chongqing, although smaller and less crowded. Shenzen is another one. Also, if you ordered food from your apartment in Chongqing, a robot would have delivered it.
