It legit feels like Salmon Run and PVP have two different dev teams! Cause all of the new content and changes for Salmon Run have been really well thought out and almost perfectly balanced, yet almost all of the new things added to PVP are all flawed and none of them are particularly well designed. While I agree on most of the criticism I think it's rough to Insult devs who oftentimes have to work on a very odd cycle especially since delays are often met with death threats. Agree on this for real, I know a lot of people insult the developers of Overwatch a lot, and from interviews, that situation in particular seems to be one where they have constantly worked on and started content over the years, but it is usually just completely thrown out by the people running the company. Game development is a really cut throat process, so many things can be the cause of something that is underwhelming, so it's a little bit psychotic to try and call out the developers themselves.

The main reason why the dev refuse to is Down to Japanese service culture. Under this ideology customer complaints aren’t seen as problems with the establishment or product they are seen as a problem with the customer’s tastes. We did not need this game. Please, keep reading for my reasoning why. No one has mentioned this from what I have seen: Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Splatoon 3 have the same developers… going from Animal Crossing: New Leaf Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a rough transition that has received a lot of criticisms just like Splatoon 2 to Splatoon 3 has… removal of many NPCs, hundreds of furniture pieces gone, only two upgrades to the Nook family store instead of five or six, villager dialogue being more repetitive, no Main Street with multiple shops removed and replaced with gutted store fronts on another island, god awful wait times going from your island to a friends, no island mini games, “new” features like Brewster Coffee shop that should’ve been in the game day one but were added MONTHS after release, etc. look at Splatoon 2 to Splatoon 3. No sponsored or regional Splatfest, no Shifty Stations, slow drip feed of content, specifically weapon kits, that actually amounts to less of what we got with Splatoon 2, atrocious online plagued with disconnects, awful map design which, while I’m at it, the last game got a new map a month per year for Splatfest on top of all of the decent Splatoon 2 maps, Gold Dynamo being ALL over the promotional art of the game with it being no where in sight, things like League (which they lied to us about, go watch the game’s direct) and X Battles not being in the game on launch and added MONTHS after release, maps like Barnacle and Dime not having things a mall would have, like an escalator, and just being a Tetris piece with silly boxes and boring terrain and many, many other things. None of my casual friends bother with this game. We used to play 2 constantly. They’re all under 50 hours this time around and it’s been almost a year. Ouch. Given the patterns this team has shown us, I truly believe this game will not have these problems fixed and it will remain this way alllll the way until the day they drop support for it. It’s the same team who just dropped the ball on Animal Crossing. Casually, which a multiplayer game lives and dies by, this is a worse experience than Splatoon 2 was. I’ve put 400 hours into this game and it just does not hook me like 2 did, and I’m a semi hardcore player who knows and remembers how bad the meta was with that game. This update in September better be absolutely spectacular or I will have been 100% correct in my very unpopular opinion all along: we did not need this game… it should’ve been in the oven longer for the next Switch console. It was rushed out, no questions asked. It went through development hell. Check out the trailer footage and art book, there’s so much missing content. The only solidly finished content the game has is the single player campaign, Return of the Mammalians. Boy, was this a massive disappointment. This game has got to change and change FAST. I didn’t even watch the rest of the video and you mentioned this exact thing I was typing. There you go.

Chargers and long ranged weapons can still get you especially if you're in squid form (bigger hitbox) even if you're right behind them, in some cases it provides them with MORE cover, and the pole in wahoo is hell on zones because it obstructs some aoe attacks and is generally just an unnecessary menace.

Nintendo just needs to listen to community feedback. It’s not hard to get input when the Splatoon fan base is so strong. You’ve stated the problems so clearly! Supercell listens to community feedback for Brawl Stars at least, idk what the heck is going on with Clash Royale. But Brawl Stars is a constantly improving game that does have its downs (i.e. the debut of gears), fixes them in response to the community, and consistently updates the game often enough to make me keep coming back. The potential of Splatoon is so high and it is realized by much of its community, which makes it infuriating that Nintendo doesn’t act on it. Although Nintendo was a huge part of my childhood and brings me nostalgia, I have to say that I would rather place hope elsewhere other than Nintendo if they don’t listen.

Brinewater springs is absolutely diabolical map design. There are 3 ways into mid (if you count the dropdown "flank" as 2) and the entire dropdown path can be covered by a sigular person, meaning the other team can cover the very small amount of space remaining. Once a team gets locked in theyre permanantly stuck there. Its bearable in rainmaker and almost in tower, but the map is completely unplayable in zones and clam blitz. At its launch clam blitz was its best mode bc of that ink rail they added for the offense to get in, but now that getting in isnt as hard the rail makes breaking a lockout, what is hard, a hell of a lot harder. Many maps have insanely easy lockout coverages, the lack of any kind of good routes and the obsession with uninkable surfaces and drop downs with no return is what makes these maps so awful. I meaning fighting each other so we took out all and any extra routes for a more streamlined experience. #4: Buffing ink jet and crab tank has always been on our radar, and now ink jet will have the same amount of armor as booyah bomb and shot velocity increased by 99% and crab tank will now have 25% range and 55% increase fire rate on top of having extra frames of invincibltity after destruction #5 Now all modes will be limited time, with turf war, ranked, x battles etc condensed two hour sessions. We promote healthy habits so please go touch grass from the bottom of our hearts. #6 You might have more connection errors for your matches to reduce workload on our servers. #7 No more skill based match making just pure anarchy #8: Were cutting updates short with no new kits and adding sting ray and ink armor for your consistent support (plz pin i spent 15 minutes on this)

One small issue; you need a version 1.0 switch AND the ability to skirt around Nintendo perma-bans, plus the issue for tournaments running the risk of being shut down or sued by Nintendo for using modded maps and/or weapons (They shut down a Melee tournament for using an emulator to enhance the playability of a decade and a half old game that isn't even sold anymore)

@@MeloniestNeon oh all of that mega sucks and probably will be a big risk, but I've seen these modding communities persist through all of it. Remember the big 3ds patch a couple months ago that patched all the previous methods to homebrew the system? New ones were found almost immediately. The people making the mod stuff are awesome and I'm sure they'll continue to find ways around the current switch limitations and nintendo's nonsense.

Thank you for being aggressive and brutal in your opinions. I feel the same way. I’ve loved Splatoon since the first game and have dedicated over half my life to it. Seeing my childhood hero be burned to the ground makes me want to sob. Splatoon was a special interest for me for SO LONG. It’s so hard to like Splatoon now. And I was OBSESSED. My hate for Splatoon 3 keeps growing and I am so incredibly heartbroken. The connection I had to the franchise is legitimately making me feel grief like I lost a child. Corporations and developers need to understand that delaying games is okay and NECESSARY to making a good game. Rushing something never goes well. Splatoon 3 feels so.. bland. All there is is yellow and purple on promotional material, contrast to the colorful art of previous games. The beauty has been sucked right out of it. Splatoon is such a chore to play. One major mistake is the music. In past games, there was a much wider variety in genre and vibe. Splatoon 3 is just metal, rock, metal, horns, metal, rock, rock. The lobby has past music, so why isn’t it in battles???? It makes no sense and it just makes me hate all the rock in the recent game. Where’s the variety? The cute chiptune? The chaotic pianos and kazoos? Splatoon is a franchise of endless possibilities in any art form. Splatoon 3 was SO centered around Chaos’s victory, and not the real ebb and flow of the others. When listening to other music, like story mode stuff for example, there’s these “weeeeer weeeeoooo” kind of vocals. That blobby gloopy sound just isn’t in the third game. It’s almost what makes Splatoon.. Splatoon! Also I was never aware about the differences in update times. Splatoon 2 had WEEKLY updates and Splatoon 3 is TRI-MONTHLY?? Literally insane. Another problem I have is the idols. This may be a hot take but Deep Cut is so hard to like. There’s just something missing, and they seem.. bland? Especially Big Man. His only defining traits are Cute, Sweet. They just feel shallow. It’s much easier to flesh out the idols with one-on-one interactions and clashing/matching personalities and traits. Splatoon 3 discontinued so many established themes from older games. Also the SPLATFESTS. They messed with the system we had going just to keep the “3” theme going. It makes it much harder to have opinionated options instead of objective ones. It just doesn’t work with the battle system. Tricolor is a mess. I wish it just didn’t get made. The COLORS too. The same color gradient so many times was terrible. Again, MUCH easier to do with just two teams/idols. The whole game also feels too, typical(?) for the whole “chaos” theme. Of course people are gonna think of chaos as “punk, metal, badass” but what if they had a more creative/less limiting approach? Music like breakcore, d&b, piano, anything other than metal/rock can be chaotic too. Themes like beaches, forests, cities can also have that spin. It just feels so strict and bland. Sorry for the rant. I just wanted to express my sadness and anger towards the whole issue.

Personally, I come from the same Splatoon-Origins as you (several hundred hours of playtime in both previous games) and I'm honestly pretty much set on selling my copy of Splatoon 3 if the next Update doesn't introduce severe changes. Personally, I see where you are coming from with your complaints, but for me, those aren't even the worst issue and just the tip of the Iceberg. First of all, as said in the Video, there is a significant lack of weapon kits which makes the game far less fun to play. Considering how bad the balancing has been, that completely sabotages some weapons. Think of the Jet Squelcher: A Shooter with a mediocre fire and damage stat, but insane range. This weapon has been good for basicly forever, well, until they slapped the entirely underwhelming Line Marker and Ink Vac on it, both of which were entirely ineffective at their tasks until the most recent Balance Patch, with especially the use of the Ink Vac being risky and more often resulting in you dying than you protecting anyone or even coming close to killing an enemy. It completely sabotaged the weapon. There is a reason why people were so exited about the 2nd kit, which by far isn't amazing, with Toxic Mist and Ink Storm on it, but the usage of these specials at least didn't punish you while barely ever archieving anything, it just hardly ever archieved anything and did nothing. That's how terrible the balancing of this game can be. I've never seen it that bad in S1 or S2, that a main weapon that's actually High-B to Mid-A tier gets sabotaged that much by it's specials. 2nd point, also mentioned in the video, the map design. I hate how every map uses the same base layout as if they just pressed CTRL+C/CTRL+V each time they make a new map and just make some minor adjustments and change the visuals. I hate how there are 0.003 side routes in any map, but that wouldn't even be that much of an issue if the map design also wouldn't enforce base camping and if the maps were large enough to properly play. But the worst point about the game is honestly the Matchmaking. The two points above already severely impact the game, but it could be, you know, at least somewhat fun if I didn't have to singlehandedly carry my team of incompetent idiots who seemingly barely know how to play the game while playing against a team of Overpros who coordinate via Discord. I know, this might seem childish, and maybe it is, but as someone who played Splatoon for well over 500 hours I refuse to believe that my skills are that lacking and the statistics also don't back that up. In each game I receive the award for the "Best Overall Performance", have inked the most by like 300-500 Points and am also usually the only member of my team with a positive Kill-Death-Ratio, and I'm not talking about 11:10 or something, I'm talking about 17:3 with Splattershot Nova and the likes, while my team mates playing with Inkbrushes, Splatanas, Blasters and other Offensive Weapons come around with KD-Ratios of 3:11, 4:15 and the likes and even if it's not that extreme, I'll have 6:0 and my teammates 0:5 or 1:4, if things are going well. Overall, I lose about 2/3 of my matches while only winning roughly 1/4 with the rest being disconnects. It has never been that bad in S1 or S2, not even in my Splatoon-Rookie days, and I started well after the first game's launch, about when Mahi-Mahi dropped. It's just incredibly disheartening to see a competetive game sh!t on your performance. And to be honest, my patience with Splatoon 3 is currently running extremly thin. So far, while the game did introduce fun and cool features left and right, it has failed to properly utilize and refine those and just been one of the worst Gaming experiences I've ever had - an unbalanced mess with linear, unengaging and unfair game play. If the developers continue to refuse addressing the game's issues properly, I don't see myself ever warming up to Splatoon 3. I'm severely disappointed with the game so far, and it's been a year - enough time for the developers to fix the mess they made.

Ive been into this game since i was like uhhh 7 I believe ?? been playing since splatoon 1, and honestly its depressing how badly this game is treated. One issue that I have that i havent seen at all is the story mode they had such a big opportunity to turn lil judd into a villain, by cementing the chaos vs order art (where he seems in cahoots with octavio) and essentially making him turn on octavio and steal his equipment, by doing so it would make sense how the octarians are going back to mammals, as if lil judd was attempting to bring his owner back judd-style I know its super random, and theres more pressing issues, but Ive had this theory since the first splatoon 3 teaser and was disappointed by me grizz being the villain, as half the community saw that twist a mile away

Yeah, I'll be honest.. as an OG Splatoon player who still plays Splatoon 1, i think the maps in Splatoon 1 (though unbalanced) and WAY more dynamic and interesting. Quality and mechanic wise Splatoon 3 is better, i love the changes to Salmon Run and story mode was AMAZING.. but so far the updates have been underwhelming. I want new- better maps, like what Splatoon 1 had. We need to see more new weapons; there is SO much potential! With the chaos theme in mind, they could make dozens of new and unique designs. I've seen random artists make fan weapons way better then what is seen in game! Splatoon 1 will always be special, with the maps, weapons and specials. But i think Splatoon 3 is going in the right direction. Funny enough, Splat3 could learn a thing or two about map making from Splat1 (we dont talk about Splat2. that was.. a watered down version of Splat1. Story mode sucked, new maps were just barely okay, and nothing was really new.)

Video makes a lot of good points, but I wouldn't be so rash to call the devs idiots. Sure, a lot of how the game has been handled is questionable at best and there are genuine criticisms, but there could always be more factors that we don't know about. A lot of comments here have already gone over the staff change, so I won't get into that. Instead, I'm going to use Pokemon as an example. I had the chance to speak with a guy that works for Nintendo's business side. I could say his name to validate this, but I'm not gonna out of respect, so if you want to take this with a grain of salt, go ahead. A big complaint of Pokemon is how frequent the releases have been. There has been a new mainline Pokemon game OR major DLC every year since 2016. That workload is insane, and its strain has definitely shown. People are quick to critique GameFreak for having this rigorous release schedule, which is fair; GameFreak makes Pokemon, so they decide that stuff, right? Wrong. My guy told me that Nintendo is the one that decides release windows/dates for Pokemon. He also told me that way less funding goes into Pokemon games nowadays because Nintendo takes a large cut from those; GF puts more into the anime and merchandising because they get a much larger profit. There could be many more factors into why the bad parts of Splatoon 3 are how they are, so I don't think its fair to call the devs idiots unless you know for certain that they're the only reason, and even so there are more respectful and constructive ways of critiquing their decisions.

the issue with Splatoon's online play is that it has nothing to do with NSO, as the game relies on console-to-console communication. Before each match a host console is picked, who will communicate all inputs to other consoles. This gives them a slightly unfair advantage since their console receives inputs faster. Additionally, if that host is laggy, everyone else will be laggy because all inputs run through their console before registering. If they switched from this console-to-console system to a proper server it'd be way less laggy imo, but cross-region play would become impossible, which honestly would feel pretty unfair. I'd rather deal with lag and disconnects than be limited to playing with ONLY players from the Americas.

I didn't have a Wii U, so I only watched splatoon 1 videos, but I got Splatoon 2 2 years ago and have hunderds of hours in it. I miss Splatoon 2, because even if I raged, I gladly came back. I've had moments with 3. It's tough for me to get back into the game because the meta and playstyle the game asks of people is different from 2. In 2, my aim was fine. I hit people and it felt believable. If I missed, I 100% knew why. In 3, I blame lag so often. I *know* what good splatoon feels like. I know when shots are supposed to hit someone else. The lag is horrible. The dc's are frequent and ruin games. The ranking system makes it really hard for me to stay in X or S+ anything, because I have less time to play and lose often because of passive teams/feeding. I love splatoon and was looking forward to 3 so, so much. I just have to hope they will eventually do a overhaul, change maps or anything because even in 2 they changed stages. I don't really get why nintendo doesn't want to make the changes we ask for? Is the Japanese meta/opinion so different? Idk. But idk how long I'll be playing ranked for. SR is fun. Looking forward to the dlc. Please update the game nintendo

for me the conection issues are something that feels like other people are able to force disconnect others (like when my team is winning we are getting disconnected (and banned due to the match ending "Not Natural") but when losing the match goes normal) i do love to see something in place that if a disconnect happened on the Server side then nobody gets punished (which now only happens rarely if Mutple people get disconnected at the same time) As for matchmaking i do say its unbalanced...the problem being that the player's skill is not taken in account...only the weapon value(the distance it can cover) which is not a very good idea...where in ranked mode the player class (my is S) will only get matched with those form the same rank class (A- gets A- A A+ players matched to them for exemple) in splatoon 2 during a splatfest everyone gets asigned a value which depends on the last 20 battles (More wins means more skilled players) which is honestly a better way of matchmaking also a other problem being that if i leave the lobby to get into a other lobby the game often reassigns me back to the lobby i just left which is annoying For maps i heared people saying that even though the game is around chaos...the maps are more like order has won they are small but sometimes even packed with the players where you have no place to move around since a charger/splatling/stringer is keeping watch (who somehow always khow where people are despite them not being able to see those) i do wish they made the maps more friendly to other weapon types instand of the long range ones that can splat in a instant among with the spawn area's being accessible by enemies is a real pain...spawn camping happens alot cause the team spawn area is just to small...which is coverable in a instand (i remember in the trailer that the spawn drones can move freely around and be used to select a spawn area aslong as they stay on there half of the map) Specials are balanced...kinda? most of the specials nowadays have something to do with distracting the other team or bruteforcing your way in (in case of the zapcaster and reefslider) despite specials being advertised as Real game changers all they do now is like forcing people to temporary leave there spots which they can easly retake in a second for the PVP or the devs i constandly have problems like where one player is doing odd stuff and if someone is found cheating/exploiting EVERYONE in that match is punished for it i asked alot of times on twitter to either update there anticheat or to use a external anticheat instand of there in-house one to atleast Prevent innocent players form getting locked out form play

I don’t think the blame can be placed squarely on the devs. It’s known that only a handful of original devs are on the team right now. They’re all under the Board of Director’s will. Considering how simplistic the map design is and how bad the connectivity is, it wouldn’t surprise me if S3 is the result of a ton of focus groups and cost cutting. Look at how massive the franchise is in Japan. It’s on the same level (if not more so) than Halo was in the late 2000’s. Nintendo is trying to follow trends like seasons while keeping their “curated” Japanese specialty (making as many restrictions as possible in the available modes because only uncultured, demanding, sloppy Westerners want lots of freedom in a game they play a lot and is made for THEM to consume) in their own limited perspective. Young players, who have helped the game to utterly explode, are thought to be too dumb to understand strategic gameplay and will eat up the seasonal content because it’s what they’re used to in this current gaming climate. Nogami probably gave a non-answer full of corporate jargon because he isn’t allowed to directly address the known issues for fear of bad press, lest their new Pokémon begin to lose popularity. Or he loses his job. But it already IS losing popularity. If Destiny 2’s and Bungie’s recent collapse and mass layoffs have shown anything, it’s that the suits at the top don’t care if the players are happy. They only care about quarterly gains and how much merch they can get the kids to buy. For Splatoon to recover, they need to remember who their original audience was who gave them this cash cow in the first place.

honestly this series has gone downhill so bad. i've played since Splat 1 day 1 and splat 1 feels like its had significantly less problems than 2 or 3. many of the improvements of the series can be chalked up to QoL like chunks and the gear system, more amiibo gear slots, better weapon search, cute fun things like lockers and name tags, and extra modes like salmon run. but the fundamentals of this series get worse and worse with each iteration. we thought the maps in splat 2 were bad, they got worse in splat 3. we thought the special balance in splat 1 was bad, until you have to play against 1 special repeatedly (TENTA MISSILES) with little to no diversity because every thing else is weak in comparison. if all the specials are broken like in splat 1, then theyre ALL usable unlike splat 2 and 3 where so few are good. i dont really have any faith that the game will get better, since 3 is a downgrade from an already not so great game in 2

I’m just gonna come out and say this, but the main issue that I have (and a whole lot of other people too) is the matchmaking system, and I get that Turf War is being affected by that too, but as a Anarchy player I find that there are three types of ways they go, (1) The opposing team just stomps the other team or the other way around. (2) The same thing only the other team wins by a turnaround. (3) Somebody disconnects and we all get sent back to the lobby. And I get it, it’s something that’s made for pros, but seriously, WHY CAN’T WE HAVE FUN? Every single time I see my team and the opposing team I either think we’re gonna win or lose, and I shouldn’t have to do that, we shouldn’t have to have that fun ripped away from us and leave, and I’m not even blaming anyone, it’s just in my mind, I think there should be an equal chance of both teams, because when there isn’t a challenge, it’s either boring or disheartening depending on the side you’re on, and when I get that win, I want to feel like I earned it, instead of having a team that curbstomps the other team. For the people who keep losing at either Turf War or Anarchy, I’m very sorry that you guys can’t have some fun in matches and I hope that your experience will improve, and for the people who keep winning, be happy that you’re having fun, because it could get ripped away at any moment, that is all.
