Up until recently to a few a years ago, without being told adequate information about caring for my teeth and quite possibly some flawed dentists, I began feeling stupid when I had to figure out everything ON MY OWN too late on why I had being getting enamel wear and even a root canal(one time at a dentist they said I had no cavities. A week later I experienced pain and they said that they may have known about the root canal...). My family has been assuming that it was low calcium from drinking almond milk more than regular milk, but I began to realize the many acidic foods and drinks that I’ve been having for years. Almost daily I’ve been drinking sodas, fizzy soda juices like San Pellegrino’s Arianciata and Limonata that my family used to get, many fruit juices, ice creams along with them sometimes, coffee daily(I only found out they stain your teeth after looking up when I could begin drinking it after my wisdom teeth got removed), sometimes sucking but at a few other points chewing ice cubes, and eating candies...And...I sometimes brushed to early, but now I also feel that I should’ve just stuck to always brushing twice a day. Only after experiencing the results the hard way, I learn on my own what I should’ve known then what I know now only through desperation of trying save my teeth from further damage. I’m now either avoiding almost all these foods and drinks or minimizing some of them when being made to consume being inevitable. Still the next challenge is trying to improve my brushing methods, particularly with not being not to hard and not soft even with a soft bristled toothbrush. It’s not easy for me even up to this day, I’m always worried about some of the sticky plaque using the gum lines and crevices to bypass even some of the thorough brush strokes that I sometimes have to carefully run the pointed end of a flosspick to check if any plaque particles are still there. Adequate brushing is a lot harder than you think...
@Magnulus76

The carbonated beverages are probably the single biggest problem. Usually they have phosphoric acid and other flavor enhances and are very acidic: they work great for cleaning mineral deposits off bathtubs and toilets, after all. Almonds are only bad in excess, as they have alot of mineral-binding oxalates. You can have great teeth and bones without eating dairy, you just have to eat things like greens, cruciferous vegetables, tofu and beans, seaweeds, and blackstrap molasses. I eat alot of collard greens because they are mild flavored and pair very well with foods like beans or potatoes, they are a good substitute for spinach in any recipe.

oh man, I was told to avoid acidic and spicy food 25 years ago because of my acid reflux, but I've just lived with it because as a woman of Mexican origin, I eat spicy and lemony/limey food every day. At least I'm not eating limes on a stick with salt, or cucumbers with lime, vinegar, and salt anymore. The enamel on my two front teeth was so worn down as a teen that my dentist thought I was bulimic, and I needed bonding, but that bonding is still up and kicking. My dental issues are now due grinding/clenching and TMJ, aggressive brushing and receding gum, and likely genetics.😭Got 5 gum grafts this year, now using Invisalign, and will likely get a surgery to fix my hiatal hernia that leads to reflux soon. Not sure I can give up putting lime juice and hot sauce in my food though.

when hygienists say wait 30 minutes before u brush are yall talking about with toothpaste? because i like to get some of the food stuck between my braces out by just brushing a little and rinsing with water then 30 minutes later ill brush normally with toothpaste

great question! I need to look into this further!!! but I believe it's not only the toothpaste - but also the toothbrush bristles themselves! So instead - rinsing your mouth with water or chewing sugarless gum are better options for right after!

You don't need to completely cut off all of your fav food but yes, you do need to cut down on it and after you consume them do NOT forget to rinse your mouth or brush if you think the food is still stuck on your teeth

You are awesome and do not apologize for saying the truth. I don't care if I'm a bit annoying but sometimes I hide all the soda pop from my family. and if I have children won't give them soda pop. Also, you are super talented and I love your sweater

Ok I’m English (London), and ok I’ll admit every fish&chip shop has a jar of pickles on the counter but who’s eating them more than once every day 🤣🤣🤣 maybe the doc who did the study loves them 🌷🌷🌸🌷🌷

I really love pickles :'( If I drink water and brush my teeth after eating them, will they still be damaging to my teeth? Will that like, neutralize the damage?
