The lacklustre puzzles in BW/B2W2 are probably done due to the gimmick of every gym leader having a job outside their gym. - Cilan, Chilli and Cress are waiters and chefs at a restaurant so their puzzle is based around a restaurant and type effectiveness. - Lenora is a Librarian so her puzzle is based around reading books - Burgh is an artist and his gym puzzles either involve a maze of honey (BW) or shooting through spiderweb mazes (B2W2) - Elesa is a model, so her puzzle in B2W2 is based around her modelling career - Clay is a miner and his puzzles inolve navigating a maze of underground tunnels - Skyla is a cargo pilot so her puzzles either involve hurrican force winds (B2W2) or flying out of cannons (BW) - Brycen is an actor, so his gym in Black and white is based around ice skating (another performance art) - Drayden is the Mayor of Opelucid city and Iris is his daughter, their gym in Black and white is based around their type specialty more than their job. and in B2W2 (When Drayden is demoted from the final gymleader to the seventh leader, the gym puzzle stayed mostly the same, naigating around atop a dragon's head. - Cheren (who replaces Lenora, but faced in place of the triplets) is a school teacher and so his gym is in the rear of the trainer's school. - Roxie (who replaces the triplets, but is in the position of Lenora) is a rockstar, heading a band. her poison type then is a reflection of america's stance on rock and roll. - Marlon (who takes Drayden's position as the final leader) is a swimmer and as a result his gym puzzle is based around navigating water.

I’m of the unpopular opinion that Hearthome Gym DP is actually my favorite in Sinnoh. If you’d decide to pick the wrong answers to fight more trainers for the experience, the trainers you face would know that you’re purposely getting them wrong. It’s one big joke. One important thing about Fantina's gym in DP/BDSP: One of her NPCs has has a Driftloon and you might easily miss that battle due to the gymn being an intelligence test. 13:17: Bea's team being completely fully evolved makes sense due to the high level of the fourth gym in SwSh, which is actually highest leveled in entire franchise. You're already expected to have a fully evolved starter by then if you're not leveling up higher than the gym leader's ace (starters are fully evolved at Lv35 and Bea's Machamp is Lv36) and there's other mons like Alcremie (Strawberry Sweet is in Hammerlocke), Toxtricity, Orbeetle, and more that are expected to be fully evolved by then too.

I think it's because the defining feature of Raihan's gym mission is precisely the fact that is the only one that happens at a different location. And a pretty important one on top of that since it's the Hammelocke vault, the place where the ancient tapestries with the legend of Galar are being preserved. It fits Raihan's theme because Dragons are known to protect treasures. And Raihan is in charge of the Hammelocke vault.

@@giboit. I personally don't mind it being in a different location. The lack of ANY PUZZLES is what makes me dislike Raihan's gym challenge. The battle is fun, but that's where the pros end. I had so much fun in Melony's gym for instance, mainly due to her gym being simultaneously fun and challenging to navigate. While in Raihan's challenge, you just battle in a room lmao

@@Evie0133 I had a good challenge with them though. And once again, the whole concept with Raihan's mission is supposed to relate to his dragon theme. The problem with the Johto gym could've been so easily solved too. Just have the gym filled with people like it would normally have and the puzzle visible, with Jasmine escorting you through. A trainer steps forward to challenge you, but Jasmine stops them, saying that you already proved yourself capable to her by helping her at the lighthouse, and that there's no need for formalities this time. Barren gym problem solved, and a nice pat on the back given to the player for a job well done. They could even include a dialogue choice where Jasmine asks you if you'd rather fight the others to warm up your team first, or if you'd like to just fight her, so that players can get that extra xp if they want it. And of course the trainers would be available to fight later if the 'no' option is selected; makes no sense to have that be a 'you missed your chance, too bad' kind of thing

Going after the low hanging fruit, my one complaint about half of the first gyms (basically gens 1-4) is the way you can avoid all the gym trainers. I don’t have a problem of being able to avoid trainers in a gym, but all of the 1st gyms in the first 4 gens are literally just single rooms with a straight path with trainers and an S shape going around them that lets you avoid them. They couldn’t at least come up with a more interesting design? At least in gen 5 onwards you either have to fight most of, if not all, the trainers or have an interesting main challenge with the trainer being optional obstacles. The best example of a proper first gym IMO is Milo’s gym in Turffield; an interesting and unique main objective with gym trainers acting as optional obstacles that, if beaten, reward you by making challenge slightly easier to accomplish by calling back the Yamper that get in your way.

Or rather, hell, once you become Champion in BDSP, make it so that the season rolls around to winter, and you rechallenge the Gyms in your Platinum fit optionally, with Team Galactic returning and the Distortion World postgame opening up to capture Giratina. *Nobody* likes the puzzle of Sendoff Spring to catch base forme Giratina, just standing there for no good reason. Give us the climactic battle against Giratina’s Origin Forme that we all deserve! The last truly good remakes ever created were FireRed / LeafGreen and HeartGold / SoulSilver. Those not only brought out what was good about the previous games, but added a fresh coat of paint and new features that only enhanced the experience.

Its so unfortunate because ORAS did so much right, yet proceeded to shoot itself in the foot by only being a side grade to Emerald. No battle frontier, less challenge, no secret boss fight with Steven Stone post game. When the remake of a gen isn't a direct upgrade that should tell the developers that they fucked up.
@tylerdixon2173

I’m sorry but I am definitely gonna have to disagree with you here. ORAS was definitely better remakes than HG/SS and FR/LG. The whole point of remaking these games is to fix the problems that they suffered with. Any extra content added is like the icing on top of the cake. There may have been a lack of extra content added to ORAS but they fixed everyone that the original games were lacking from, which makes them a whole lot better than the other remakes Gamefreak has done. There were so many problems with Gold and Silver and it’s so disappointing that none of those problems were fixed when they made HG/SS. I’m glad they added other great content but their original flaws don’t constitute them as one of the “good remakes ever created.”

@@tylerdixon2173 I’m not sure what universe you’re living in where you honestly believe that ORAS were better remakes than HG/SS. ORAS legitimately took the original Ruby and Sapphire games and twisted them. Remember the mystery of Latios and Latias in the post game? Let’s get rid of that in favor of just giving you a legendary as a pre-Gen 7 ride Pokémon, PLUS the Mega Stone. Mega Evolutions made the Hoenn experience way too easy, along with having a Mega Latias / Latios as part of your team. Just doesn’t seem right. No Trainer Customization despite being in Gen 7, which introduced Trainer Customization. It also forces you into a single race, with no options for choosing skin or hair color. Even BDSP allows for that level of customization, so there’s no good reason why ORAS couldn’t do what the sparse and incomplete X and Y could do in spades. Also, in addition to Megas, let’s copy over the Battle Maison in place of the Battle Tower / the Emerald Battle Frontier. We don’t need an entire awesome battle facility, just give us the stale crap from Kalos for NO reason. ORAS was terrible, whereas HGSS were phenomenal games which introduced Johto and Kanto in a fresh coat of paint, along with Pokémon that followed you across the region. There was the nostalgic Game Boy Sounds feature, if you didn’t want to listen to the soundtrack of the modern games. Of course, the modern HGSS soundtrack was INCREDIBLE, whereas most of X/Y/ORAS left much to be desired musically. The Gym Leader rematches in HGSS? Insane. And the SPECIAL EVENTS? OMG SPECIAL EVENT ARCEUS AND THE SINJOH RUINS SHOWING THE BIRTH OF A LITERAL GOD OF YOUR CHOOSING. CELEBI TIME TRAVELING TO THE PAST TO LET YOU BATTLE PAST GIOVANNI. And the legendary music was completely original and badass, way cooler encounters than in the OG games which showed a static minimalist legendary sprite in the over world.

@@tylerdixon2173 Oh, and I almost forgot the Pokéwalker. Long before Pokémon GO, there was HGSS’s accidental perfect pedometer which you could use to walk with Pokémon in the real world. Great stuff. ORAS sucks in comparison
@tylerdixon2173
2 жыл бұрын
@@throwawayaccount4009 Well first I can see that your clearly biased from childhood nostalgia alone, which already makes your argument pretty weak, so let me be more clear in a way you can understand. ORAS definitely sucks badly and it is nowhere near my favorite pokémon game. But the exact same can be said about HG/SS to an even greater extent. Here being the reasons: - Gym leader rematches were absolutely pointless. They made it way to restricting by having different times and different days you need to first get their phone number and then battle them. And instead of providing a challenge, all they did was increase their levels and added other pokemon, when they could have increased IVs, EVs, better natures, better abilities, items and a more strategic AI. - The timed special events with Celebi, Arceus, and Spiky Pichu hold no value to the remakes whatsoever considering theres no way to do them anymore without hacking and a majority players never got to experience them, which makes them useless now. - The Level Curve was abominable. All the wild pokemon, and pokemon trainers had extremely low levels which only made the gameplay more of a chore to go through rather than a fun experience. Mt. Silver is the final most challenging area of the game and the highest level pokemon there are between levels 45-50. Really not worth it after going through two whole regions. - The region is extremely bland compared to every other region. Every cave and route looked the same and their were no special areas you would get to travel through. They only possible exception was maybe Ice Cave but even then there are no trainers in it so what's the point of going through it. - The pokemon diversity was horrendous. Almost all the pokemon you can catch and use are exclusively kanto pokemon and the johto pokemon you can use are really weak frail unsuable pokemon. All the johto pokemon like Houdoom, Skarmory, Magcargo, Tyranitar, and Sneasel are only availabel towards the end of the game or in Kanto only. - The Important pokemon trainers had terrible teams. The gym leaders, elite four, and champion used the same pokemon multiple times on their team. Depite being a johto game over half of the gym leaders used only kanto pokemon like Falkner could have used Hoothoot, or Chuck could have used Hitmontop, or Morty could have used Misdreavus, or Jasmine could have used Skarmory. - And at the end of it all there was no plot. Team Rocket comes back but they have such little impact on the game. You beat them a few times and that's it there gone forever. With no plot the games feels so much more empty and disappointing. All of these examples are what G/S suffered from and Gamefreak had every opportunity to fix these problems but they didn't. Thats why HG/SS are not "good remakes." Even though all that extra content you said was added, it still doesn't make up for the fact that all the fundamental problems are still there. Like I said before ORAS is still a terrible game but at least all the problems of R/S were fixed in ORAS.

I believe it was intentional. Back in Gen 2, Steel type was introduced and we didn't have as many sources to research as nowadays. Figuring out that Fire type moves are actually the most effective way to win this battle adds the shock value.

Kanto: 100% Agree on Vermilion. Puzzle is literally trash and is annoying A/F. Johto: Again, 100% agree on Olivine. It’s kind of hard not to pick it. At least Violet has a cool theme, especially in HGSS. The trainers in the lighthouse don’t use Steel-types either. Hoenn: Originally was going to say Mauville, but the Dewford Gym is far more annoying and just a dumb maze with nothing of interest. At Least ORAS tried to make it interesting. Sinnoh: I would say Oreburgh and DP Hearthome are tied. Totally agree with your reasoning for Hearthome. My problem with Oreburgh is that it’s basically exactly the same as Pewter Gym except, HEY! Elevated platforms! Unova: I disagree with Nacrene just because I love the idea of a Museum and Library being a Gym. Also disagree with BW1 Nimbasa simply because aesthetic is a huge thing for me and I love the roller coaster theme. My least favorite from Unova is BW1 Opelucid. The dragon statue is boring and all you do is backtrack over the gym multiple times to hit the same switches over and over. BW2 version made it so much better. Kalos: 100% agree on the Shalour Gym, just doesn’t do anything for me. However, the Lumiose Gym is also a huge let down. A giant tower in the middle of the largest city in the Pokemon world and it’s just a quiz show…. Galar: Spikemuth. We finally get a Dark-type gym and it’s just a long ass gauntlet battle. That being sad, Hammerlocke is also a letdown because it’s the final gym in the game and it’s just some weather types battles that don’t even take place in the gym itself. Motostoke is just dumb. Catch two Pokémon and defeat a third one…might as well be trainer battles. Was also sad that Ballonlea is just a quiz gym as well. It’s one of the most unique town in Galar and it has a totally boring gym.

0:36 On that note, Falkner's gym is surprisingly challenging for a first gym. Giving him an underlevel Pidgeotto is pretty evil as it outspeeds everything at that point and hits hard for the low defenses in the early game. I knew that Fantina's gym would be the worst in Sinnoh. What were they thinking putting basic math questions for the puzzle? I like math, but I don't want to solve math questions when I'm playing a game. The only two gyms I disagree with are Bea's and Allister's gym, as well as Elesa's gym. I thought the riding the tea cup down to the end was pretty fun for a gym puzzle. Even if I think they could've mixed it up between versions, it still managed to be pretty fun. Personally I think the worst gym puzzle in Galar would be Milo's gym, but that is because I just found the herding wooloo thing to be annoying. As for Elesa's gym, I do understand your reasoning and it's not like Unova had many options for worst gym because all of the gyms had something cool to them in my eyes. However, Clay's gym in Black and White would be the worst for me. Not only is it just tedious going from lift to lift and pressing which way you go, most of the gym trainers use tympole and sandile if memory serves correct. As such, it just feels like a chore to go through. Elesa's gym had the cool roller coasters that while admittedly easy, sure were fun to ride in for me.

I didn't mind clay's gym, if only because it isn't difficult to understand, but can be punishing if you choose the wrong way. Paying attention to where things lead helps avoid unneeded battling, which feels rewarding. I liked the Bea's gym as well. I really didn't think it fit at all, it's a fighting or ghost gym. The first puzzle/challenge that comes to mind for those types is certainly *NOT* a pachinko machine. However, it was the most memorable gym out of all of them, I don't remember doing most of the others, but I do remember doing it. I remember it was oddly fun, though one bit was frustrating.
