A quick look at Pro-Football-Reference shows that he never played in more than 8 games in a single season, so he falls just short of the criteria set out for this video. From watching the Secret Base Dorktown series, it seems that he was the third option (at best) and only got playing time when the first two QB's on the depth chart were injured or did so poorly that the coach decided to shake things up inserting McQuilken into the lineup.

He went 6-6 touchdown-int ratio and lost every one of his games throwing for just a 56% completion percentage. Just 5.5 yards per attempt while taking sacks on 7% of plays he ran. He didn’t make up for his lack of passing by running it either. 7 attempts for a whopping 18 yards and he fumbled it 4 times. Horrible.

I somehow remember that Ryan Leaf was actually hated (despised) by his teammates! I also remember reading that at some point when he was sacked by the Chargers that Doug Flutie came in to replace him and was beloved by every single member of the team because of his hustle, leadership and work ethic as well as his athleticism. I also remember, I had a friend who told me that Terry Bradshaw was going to be one of the "Greatest quarterbacks ever" and this was in 1970 - 71. I had a newspaper in my hands in the lunchroom of my JHS in the 7th grade and I said to him, "Terry Bradshaw currently has at 39% completion rate!" [His was the last name at the bottom of the quarterback stats listings.] In 1970- 1971 (or possibly 1971-72?) and at the time the Pittsburgh Steelers were one of the historically horrible teams in the NFL and this had been throughout their history. My friend assured me to forget about that because in just a short period of time his career will take an upward spiral, [He also said that, "Terry Bradshaw has an amazing arm and a really tight spiral." Pretty good analysis from a 7th grader!] and "He will be remembered as 'one of the best!" (What?) He added... "Bradshaw will be something to watch!" Well... We all know that Terry Bradshaw in his career went on to win 4 Super Bowls Titles and was elected into the NFL Hall of Fame. *Richard* 🍀 I enjoy your videos and find them very informative.
@durasaxon6504

What this friend said was pretty tough for me to swallow at the time. How could he know such a thing? [Chuck Noll was an exceptionally good evaluator of talent.] Phil Simms had a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers (I believe around 1979) before the draft and thought that Phil Simms would be a pretty good Quarterback in the NFL. The Pittsburgh Steelers evaluated him as having a strong arm and a really tight spiral. (Sounds like another evaluation?) Of course he knew about the booing (on NFL Draft Day) because the New York Giants had selected him in the 1st round from nowhere Morehead State. Evidently Chuck Noll did not share the opinions of the Giants fans at the time. (In a 1979 preseason game Phil Simms played a 'Half' against the Pittsburgh Steelers.) Well, he certainly was onto something! Another team that was known historically for losing were the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees has certainly single-handedly turned that whole paradigm around. *Richard* 🍀

Don't forget Bobby Douglass. In 1972 he played in 14 games, completed 75 of 198 passes (37.88%), 9 TD, 12 INT. for a 49.8 QB rating. He did run for 978 yards and 8 TD, however. Or maybe 1971 where he played in 12 games, attempted 225 passes and completed 91 for a QB rating of 37.00. He did throw for over 1000 yards, but had 5 touchdowns to 15 interceptions and only 284 yards and 3 TD.

I have a theory about Gary Marangi the very first NFL pass he threw was a 50 yard touchdown sone it couldn’t get any better

Well I guess you could say it's a good thing that Ryan Leaf turned over a *New Leaf!* Living hurts

You said 9 games (not necessarily 9 starts), right? Alex Smith, 2005: 9 games, 84/175 (50.9%), 875 yards, 1 TD, 11 INT, QB rating of 40.8, just over the 39.6 that you'd have if you threw nothing but incomplete passes. Granted, that '05 49ers team wasn't exactly bursting at the seams with talent (they did have Brandon Lloyd and a young Frank Gore, but little else), but still. Really bad.

How did Peyton Manning's 2015 season not make this? Don't give me that SB crap. His season was so bad that he was leading the league in picks until week 17 despite only appearing in 10 games. He got benched in the same game that he broke the passing yards record.

It’s some kind of miracle this list did not include one Chicago Bear, Detroit Lion or Cleveland Brown

Alex Smith threw 11 interceptions and only 1 TD his rookie season. I’m surprised he’s not on the list

It's still hard to believe Ryan Leaf was that bad. Dude was a total stud in college. It's amazing how far stupidity will take you down
