to be honest, my viewpoint is that wedding ang pows are gifts, inviting people for wedding dinner is not like selling concert tickets/seat. people give within means on their side, you don't hold wedding banquet beyond your budget limits on your side. just my 2 cent.

Exactly my thoughts on weddings. I never attend anyones wedding and i invited no one to my wedding except immediate family members. Weddings to me are a waste of time , energy, effort and money. I rather put in the money into a damn nice house that i will live in everyday instead of a " once in a lifetime" day. I am grateful that my parents and in laws let us do what we want and didnt put any expectation on us. We just had a hotel buffet and u can eat whatever cuisine u want. Am not even forcing u to eat what i chose. Personally, (not cos of low self esteem) i do not think i am that important and i do not think my love is anything special to celebrate. This prob stems from what daniel said, i will do everything for friends but i dont want to burden others for sth for me

My mum wanted a “dowry” for the significance of it but put all the money back into another red packet and gave it to my then Fiancè now husband. Doing this just shows how much you respect your in laws and in their view, how you treasure their daughter. Your wife bears you a child, he or she follows your surname. Just save enough then get married and just give your future wife’s parents what they ask for.

Eh toxic parents leh. I told my parents, I am marrying this guy. They tried some of these "traditions" nonsense. I said no, this is 2019, deal with it. No need to discuss anymore. We paid for our own wedding and only invited people we wanted. Parents are adults, they will be okay. No need to Molly cuddle.

I find it depressing when parents and in-laws have so many requirements and so much hand in their child’s wedding. Like… You had your chance years ago!!!! And now it’s mine, so can you please let me have my time? 😵💫🥲 Anyway great episode, wished it was longer!

I’m married and i still don’t see the point in having a banquet. In the end is the hotels and restaurants that are earning your money or your guests money. And in my own opinion, if couples that wants to celebrate the occasion in a hotel/restaurant with guest, I sincerely feel that the couple should foot the bill and buy the guest to have a good time. Just my 2 cents peace out ✌🏻

Yet another insightful podcast guys! Ok so just my 2 cents.. I feel like parental pressure isn’t the main reason why people want to hold weddings. Given this day and age, young people don’t really feel like they are obligated to listen to their parents when it comes to marriage. I mean after all we’re the ones getting married not our parents right. I feel like the main reason why people can’t do away with weddings is due to how they have been packaged as like a “if you don’t hold one, then are you really married?” kinda construct. Also the “it’s a once in a lifetime thing” (also mentioned in the vid), which I feel doesn’t really mean a wedding is absolutely required to justify the significance what.. Like some have said, I much rather just ROM and spend the rest of the budget on making our honeymoon as insanely unforgettable as possible.. that’s also another way to justify the significance of this event mah, plus the element of absolute privacy which I would like to think is a desirable one right. If not, can also spend on like other practical aspects of life such as renovation of our house, a car, or our future kid(s) mah. I just feel like these are more meaningful than if we were to just give in to the social norm of holding a wedding just because of those constructs.. Oh well, to each his own I guess 🤷♂️

When we got married in Singapore we found it difficult to explain to our Singaporean friends that the guest is there to enjoy our celebration with us and its free. In our tradition the Brides parents pay for the wedding, wedding dress etc and the parents of the groom can contribute if they want to. Guests are invited but they do not pay anything, they may give a gift from a gift registrar set at a store but not expected to do so. Since both our parents pass away we pay ourselves for everything. We pay for all the food, alcohol and entertainment. Needless to say our guest's here were not really understanding that this is the way we do it. We just wanted a big party that lasted from 12pm to 10pm eating, drinking, dancing, singing having fun. Absolutely no dowrie. We shall do the same for our daughter. A wedding is a celebration of love and 2 familys coming together not a money making venture.

I kind of like Malay , Indian and church wedding but not Chinese wedding ( The gate crash really don’t made sense.) As families and friends ones should give the couple their blessings and not doing fortified games at the gate. Playing simple games like what your favorite food , colours you like songs you love is ok during the wedding dinner/ lunch. Is ok.Thanks.

We have done all the variously protocols but we never got any SMSes from MOH. The person we spoke with at MOH declares that there was no records of our online submission or any submission by the Doctor Anywhere as well. We also noted that we are not the exception. There were many friends who had similar experiences as well. So, we now have something to consider when we hear updates of Public news and reports.

Getting married is always such a painstaking deccision. after ROM, do you do the traditional stuff and do wedding banquets and so on. Ideally you will want to ROM and save your wedding money for the honeymoon instead, you could do a simple wedding like in chalets. But if you think about it, getting married is a once in a lifetime thing, and the whole wedding photos, banquet thing is once and never again, so do you really want the experience or do you want to save the money. i think this is a good debate, and sometimes can be one that shatters marriage plans.
