They weren't doing anything original when compared to their peers (e.g., 3 Days Grace, Trust Company, Trapt, Taproot) but were probably much better at it than the bands that came before them. Kind of like how Warrant from the hair band era weren't all that original but were head and shoulders above other bands in terms of songwriting. The vocal arrangement on Cold is stellar.

Contrary to what Finn was riffing about the Crossfade album being a harder 3DG album where he says the F-Word… they do not in fact say it even though they tried to. As it turns out, due to them self financing the production and release of the album, they only had the funds to release the censored version of the album. They couldn’t afford to take the risk of minimizing their chances of building a fanbase with an album with un cut cussies.

The most admirable thing about Weezer is that they’ve had a crossover pop hit in the 90’s (Buddy holly), 00’s (Beverly hills), and 10’s (Africa). There are literally zero other rock bands who have managed to pull that off, and I wouldn’t put it past them to have another hit in the 20’s. I never go out of my way to listen to their music & honestly it would be nice if they could just go 3 years without releasing another album of songs that sound just like all their others. But as hard of a time rock music has had in the mainstream in recent times, it’s cool that Weezer keeps finding their way in every now & then.

Slipknot has pulled that off, Korn has as well (which surprised me because they chart pretty high even now), Blink-182 has as well. There are plenty of rock bands that have made hits across 3 decades. The nu metal and butt rock bands are most obvious but like even Metallica has done it

This kid was talking shit about my "attire" and said he could fuck my ear. Instantly I laughed and brought to his attention how small my ears where in comparison (1 inch) and reminded him of where we lived and how nothing about our town was "GANGSTA".
