Thanks, Chad, for bringing this to light. I used to read the Psalms as prescriptive for me instead of descriptive of Christ. This was a huge revelation since I, being a poor miserable sinner, could not live up to the ideals given. Reading the Psalms with me "in Christ" is a great comfort.

Thank you brother Chad, Psalm 40 is beautiful, but Psalm 41 sounds like the ravings of a paranoid. I'm glad Jesus never I ranted on like this: “My enemies say of me in malice, ‘When will he die and his name perish? Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad. All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying, ‘A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies.’ Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.” What's going on with these Hebrews, this is not a discussion about Pharaohs and enslavers, this is talking about the guy next-door. Was this part of the Hebrew mentality that your friends family and neighbors were out to get you? For such a persecution complex to have made it into the Psalms, I assume this "they are out to get me" mentality must have been widespread?
