Story goes that they were intially gonna use a sitar but it sounded too thin, so they asked Jeff to make his guitar sound like a sitar and it sounded better

I thought so! But he (1) looks SO YOUNG here, and (2) wasn't playing bass, I was doubting my own eyes. Wondering things such as perhaps whether they had had to use some stand-in for this live performance, etc. So thanks for confirming what I just couldn't quite bring myself to believe!

K.Relf sang in front of 3 of the premier guitarist's from that or any era. Clapton, Beck and Page. Albeit over the course of the band's tenure. That, in my book, elevates him up the list of unheralded but great front men. R.I.P. Mr. K.Relf!

Yes! On my RCA Golden Throat Bullhorn MDL 9 X 571 all american five tube radio, there harder edged , unique and creative sound stood out from other British Invasion bands. Still does. (Had to mention the radio, 'cause it stood out too).

I don't consider them under rated because I'm a Yardbirds fan, but they just didn't have as much good commercial success as some English rock bands did. The Yardbirds may not have been as as popular as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, but at least they were very talented.

Page had a pretty good career as a session guitarist before the Yardbirds. In fact he turned them down the first time they tried to recruit him and recommended his friend Jeff Beck.

Jeff Beck on lead. Jimmy Page couldn't tune his guitar properly in those days, but Jeff could. This is the best Yardbirds number musically, best tune.

A live performance, as opposed to lip-synching. Was this from "Shindig"? It was a U.S. rock music show that ran from 1964 until early 1966 and performers on that show played live as opposed to lip--synching.

Great song, written by Graham Gouldman, later of 10CC, who also wrote "For Your Love" and "Evil Hearted You" for The Yardbirds, "Bus Stop" and "Look Through Any Window" for The Hollies, "No Milk Today" and "Listen People" for Herman's Hermits, etc. etc.

I was a fan of Zeppelin & when I read more & more about them as a kid I found out about the Yardbirds connection. It was this song & more importantly the riff that Jeff Beck plays here that blew my mind. I have since tried to get my hands on ANYTHING that Jeff has played on. I still love Led Zeppelin & think Pagey is incredible, but begining with this song & up to his latest stuff I feel that Jeff Beck is the Greatest Guitarist of All Time.
