I have not cared that it is not live for 3 decades+. I have known this forever and it doesn't matter. It SOUNDS right.

British Steel and Screaming absolutely hooked me, but, Unleashed in the East solidified my unwavering admiration for Judas Priest.

2 things made Unleashed In The East. That crushing guitar TONE and Les Binks. His drumming was perfect for this record. I remember being disappointed when finding out Les wasn't gonna drum for British Steel. Dave was fine because British Steel was a lil more accessible and poppy although still heavy. Huge Les Binks fan if you can't tell. But I do wish Les would have drummed for Priest for at least 3 or 4 more albums. Fun conversation.

Totally agree with it being put out with all the 18 tracks in proper running order, the other tracks were, Red Hot White Heat, Evil Fantasies, Beyond the Realms of Death, Take on the World. The Japanese version called Priest in the East had the 7" single with Rock Forever, Delievering the Goods, Hell Bent and Starbreaker, were as the 7" in original UK version (not shall about US) had Beyond the Realms of Death in place of Delievering the Goods & Starbreaker. Keep up the great reviews.

This is THE album. It should show up in every dictionary as the definition of heavy metal. Judas priest here are ferocious, exciting, cohesive, untouchable. Pretty much perfect. Les Binks brings new energy to the classics from the first 5 albums, boosting them to a new level of power. The guitars tone doesn't suffer from that boxy compressed old sounding production that doesn't allow the heaviest songs to slap us in the face as they should in the studio versions. The band will be subsequently heavily impaired for a good 10 years on the drums dept. after this masterpiece. And yeah vocals were re-recorded later but they are still sang live in one session and kept with a few honest imperfections. Does it say something that in the 80's 6 of the 9 original tracks from the album were tributed by the names of 6 respective recording metal bands of different levels of success? Rate 11

Another great episode! Peter Jones rules! I love this album, I don't care if it was touched up or re-recorded, it makes you feel like you were there! I actually prefer the studio versions a little more, some songs are just too fast, though I think the versions of Victim Of Changes and Diamonds And Rust are the definitive versions. The album is a little too trebley for me, not a lot of low end. And I agree that an Anniversary release with the full show in set list order and remixed should be done! I still have my Priest In The East LP with the bonus songs on a 45 and back in the day I made a cassette mixing the four extra tracks in with the album tracks! Fun times! this is still a 8/10 for me!

Great show, thank you. Full concert version are on KZitem now, I believe with correct running order. Some tracks (not on the original release), show how Rob's voice was struggling. I still enjoyed it though, and good to hear his between songs banter.

I dig that it was only released as a single album. It such a neat, concise little package of dynamite. Also, I think the song orientation works, I can't hear it any other way. It's just an energetic little piece of Metal majesty, a masterclass capturing of some of their most iconic tunes. Some of which are the definitive versions.

Somebody posted this just nine days ago. The poster put together the entire setlist as it was recorded and edited in Rob's banter between songs. I was hoping the studio would have released something like this for the 45th anniversary but this is as close as it gets. kzitem.info/news/bejne/kXml2q13nGthpmk&lc=Ugz2AnwKxX043NErw3B4AaABAg

Thanks for the retrospective. Don't think Halford re-did Unleashed. It's obvious he was live, maybe overdubbed some high parts. So, like most bands, they updated their older songs, and this is like a greatest hits. The leather look isn't unique. I think Stooges did it first, and the Ramones purposefully copied them in '77. Unleashed sums up the decade for Priest. It begins with the Cold War and ends with it. These are songs about dictators, wars and despots.I like the Paranoid lick in live Genocide solo. Live albums were popular in the late 70's maybe because an obscure band like Cheap Trick were catapulted into success because of their Live record. I remember buying The Kinks (One for the Road), Eric Clapton (Just One Night), ELP Live and UK Live- all around this time. I still had not heard of Priest when Unleashed had come out. I'd be introduced to them on their next record. I knew B.S. was different from American heavy metal, but I had no idea what NWOBM was.

50.23, John, that would sound like a great album and not like something made by kids playing with a lullaby trying to make it big in the Us (Living after midnight) . I don't think with Les they could have never dumbed themselves down that much . BS means BS not British Steel in my opinion. (even though there are a few good songs on it).

Never a fan of live albums. Preferred the studio versions of all these classic songs on this album.
