For melnet theme of the month October 2023 - tunes beginning with 'Y'
This appears in John Walsh's 1731 "3rd Collection of Jigs, Hornpipes, Joaks, etc."
In the 1730's several coloured "joak" (or "Joke") tunes appeared as parodies of the very popular "Black Joak" which is still used today as a Cotswold morris tune and was also a song.
Update:
There are also white, red and brown joaks, and when I posted this video I didn't think there was a Blue Joak. I have been proved wrong, and it's in John Offord's Book "John of the Greeney Cheshire Way" and other publications, probably originally in Wright's "Compleat Collection of Celebrated Country Dances" (c.1740). There are several performances on KZitem too.
