My family was from Texas and during the American Civil War I have been given to understand this was a marching song. God know, the Civil War in the Western Theater saw more marching than you would believe. My Great Grandfather Andrew Jackson .....was on the 2nd Missouri raid with Price and Joe Shelby as part of the 10 th Texas Field Battery. They marched 2,000 miles and on great grandfathers 21st birthday he had not eaten in three days.... Remember.

I love country music. Nothing makes the soul feel more alive. Im not talking about the new country, (Taylor Swift, The band Perry, Keith Urban), I am talking about these two. Along with Merle, Waylon, Willie, Coe, Johnny Russel, and Vern Gosdin, plus many more. Keep that steel guitar twangin'.

Thank you for great comments! i was never married to johnny , we are like brother and sister. I performed it with him on "Country Family reunion" recently. i am a writer of the lyrics. It's the first video recorded on film. it was at Pennington"s ranch in Nashville. I have been vegan for many years now and the coat was used to demonstrate fur belongs on animals not humans. It was snubbed by the CMA the year it went number one for political reasons. But you the people have made it last! xo Lane

XU10J4R There is still some good music out there. I started listening to country back in the late 70's. I think it was because there were many songs crossing over to the pop charts like Glen Campbell and Ronnie Milsap. I still love the Gatlin Brothers, I was fortunate enough to get their older albums on vinyl. Two of their songs that I loved but were probably only known to others who played the entire albums were "Jacob and Marcie" and "If practice makes perfect". I loved just about any of their songs, but those 2 were amazing to me for some reason. Country these days, ......I can't say it's horrible but you can see it from there. As for pop music, that sucks even worse. Have you ever heard the crap that Bieber sings? I'm sure you know what I'm talking about without bringing anyone else's names. However, here's one that I hope you will give me your opinion on. Back in the 80's we had to listen to Billy Ray Cyrus and "Achy breaky heart". I thought I would puke every time I heard it or when I had to watch a line dance to it. Today we have Miley Cyrus and her twerking. Who came up with that word? To me it looks like some freaky sex moves. I couldn't believe we were subjected to it on tv. Two generations of one family who suck. I am glad to see Garth Brooks is back touring again.

I know I'll rial up a few people, but here go's. This is the all time best version of Yellow rose!!!! And I ain't saying that cause Lane Brody Is so hot!!!! This is one time a remake is better than the original. Johnny Lee just Makes the song. I"m an old rocker that went country in the late 1970's, and know a great song when I hear one. This is one a good one!!!!! If you like good songs, I have 14 one U. tube. I don't have a team of producers, or a team of writers, and I don't have auto tune. Just me and a guitar making a fool out of myself. I wrote 13 of them. Check them out. Peace, Gary.

Beautiful rendering of a beautiful song that's a staple of White folks' music. So enjoy it while White folks and our music are still around. ALL White countries and ONLY White countries are being flooded with non-whites, and Whites are forced by law to integrate with them so as to "assimilate," i.e. intermarry and be blended out of existence. Those enforcing this genocide of Whites say they're anti-racist. What they are is anti-white. Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white.

sandsifter149 I don't think she is singing anymore. This song came out in 1984, something I was looking up earlier because I couldn't remember when the song came out. While she's never received the fame that Dolly has, those would be pretty big shoes to fill. Dolly is still singing and still just as beautiful as ever, as is her music.

Only Jesus can save this man's soul from hell, not the girl in the song. If she meant so much to him, I can't help but wonder, why did he leave her at the end of the song. Maybe he needs some kind of therapy or he just wants to keep drifting around. One of these times when he goes back, Rose is not going to take him back and then he'll be singing a different song.

Was this version no. one in the fifty states in u.s.a. or was it only no. 1 in the country charts? to me, this version sounds as if the song was only written a few weeks ago!!! honestly, the mitch miller is as old as George bush junior and his papa put together! this version is GORGEOUS but it sounds like a middle of the road pop song instead of a country number. I mean, where is the country ukulele 12 string that glen Campbell used to use? anyway, it is beautiful. thank you.

So true... There's a number of versions of this song and the one here is the one Dolly Parton did. There's no right or wrong lyrics. Don't matter much what the version is. "The Yellow Rose" has become a song about the special importance of Texas women for Texas men. There's few songs like this except for, maybe, Mike Shannon's "Land of Enchantment - New Mexico." It's their state song!
