I grew up watching Rik Mayall on the Young Ones and this was my favourite scene ever! Had me crying with laughter when I first saw this back in my school days. 'Try and make me.. Farty breath!' I just cried with laughter again having not seen this in years. RIP Rik Mayall

The reason is that in the original broadcasts they put in a load of 'subliminal messages' with stupid things in them, but I think they were forced to edit them out in subsequent releases.

Everyone was paranoid about subliminal messages at the time, so they poked fun at the hysteria by putting in meaningless subliminal messages (but making them just long enough for them to be noticeable) to poke fun at everyone worried about them.

Not altogether the best episode, but Rick's conversation with his conscience = priceless! Would you believe the "wet dream" scene has sometimes been deleted in repeats on the TV?! What's the name of the actress playing the spokeswoman in the wet dream? I'm actually surprised they didn't pick Felicity Kendal for that role; maybe she was too busy, or too expensive?

It’s a veritable shoe-in. I was very fortunate to be c. 14yo at the time. All said and done, it still is my favourite thing ever to be aired. I still know virtually all of the dialogue off by heart. RIP Rik 😥

4:09 is a frog, + tadpole and/or flying insect. Easily seen at reduced speed. I wonder what subliminal effect its meant to have, was very popular at one time, especially on Second Side Up here on KZitem and the BBC iPlayer, I hear. Tattipoos.
