Some reaction vids aren't like that. The ones i like are when someone with knowledge on the subject watches part of the video and or pauses the segment to explain how a certain thing works. I.e. Reaction videos CAN be a honest way to make content, if the focus is the reaction/commentary, and not the content they are reacting to. Of course, it is very easy to abuse this concept. The line should be this: can you enjoy/understand the reaction without having seen the content yourself? If the answer is yes, then it's abuse.
@gamer_x403
Жыл бұрын
@@knawkes7325 I think it really depends on the type of content they are reacting to and how the video is formatted. Reacting to music is more defendable because you can consume music a lot of times, so having heard it once in a video won't mean you'll never listen to that song ever again, on top of the video being a much worse experience for actually listening to the music, with all the pauses and so on, so it can't reasonably replace the original. With formatting, stuff like what Corridor Crew do where they react to a video or a movie, commentate on it, edit it, and at the end you have a product that maybe contains 1 minute total of the original thing they're reacting to, with the rest being filled with their expert opinions, since they work in the field of whatever it is they're reacting to (be it VFX or stunt choreography). Watching videos like that will never replace the original work.

Reaction videos are tautologically not transformative - they're reactive, and they have to put in a _lot_ of work to attain _any_ sort of transformative merit. Great job, OP. You've just invented a system by which a reactor can get MORE money - by claiming that the video that was made before theirs is copying off their content. And because KZitem is chiefly automatic, there are maybe like six humans to check the thousands upon thousands of claims that will be generated from this. And considering how many times even content _owners_ have been hit by ContentID for _their own content which they own_ and KZitem consequentially refuses to act on (unless the creator is big enough to make waves by complaining), you're putting more ideal power in the hands of a system that is incompetent at best (and horrifically damaging at worst). You tried. That's worth something. But the problem isn't with reactive content and it's not by scumbag reactors. It's that KZitem facilitates and (by the aforementioned incompetence) _incentivises_ that abuse. The system is rotten at its core. Building something on top of it is only going to create more problems.

Love the pseudo-irony of reiterating your point, near verbatim. Like original, vs. reaction. Also, holy crap, I've been watching for over a year and completely forgot to subscribe.

Back when I watched react content, I would always open the original video in a second tab and leave it running on mute while I watched the reaction. I'm not sure how the engagement system works (maybe it realizes and doesn't count two distinct views when you watch two videos at once) exactly but maybe react "creators" could encourage their viewers to do the same. Obviously, in a perfect world, people would exclusively go to the original creator, but it's perhaps a decent compromise for those who enjoy the "input" (however tenuous that description may be) from the person they're watching react to it while still giving at the very least some attention (watchtime wise) to the original uploader. Obviously, I'm no content creator and I don't know too much about how the system works, but I still think it could be a neat idea.

The only benefit of watching reaction channels is to see a youtuber you like's thoughts on a video you've already watched

Gets to the crux of the issue quickly and concisely. Definitely reminds me a lot of DarkViperAU's indepth dissections on the subject. KZitem's tacit acceptance of this garbage tactic to sidestep rightfully being banned or copyright struck is making the platform worse overall, tbh.

Important stuff to be talking about, yeah, but how did you pick FIVE channels I watch videos from at 2:20? (Granted, I only sometimes watch EH, but still, naming three additional channels I watch is crazy)

Thing is, your video is worth and interesting enough to be watched multiple times.

The only viable "reaction" content on this platform is stuff like "music theory expert reacts to video game ost". Firstly, it's an expert commenting on content within their area of expertise. Secondly, music has nearly infinite replay value. But simply *watching a video,* even if you comment on it, causes the issue mentioned in the video, where someone watching the reaction content has already seen your content and can't just watch it again. This kind of content can ruin everything from video games to normal KZitem videos. Very little of the reaction content on YT is; a) Inherently interesting or worth watching b) High- or even medium-effort c) Adding any useful substance or comment to the content it interacts with People who have actual worthwhile comments on a video will make a properly scripted video where they talk about it and state their opinions while only occasionally showing a direct clip from the video they're commenting on. That's the proper way to critique or comment on a video.

Ehh, even the "music theory expert reacts" content oftentimes falls flat. I have been exposed to one of them reacting to the ULTRAKILL OST and all they did was them either saying "this feels like [surface level emotion]" or mimicking the music with mouth noises, while both using fanmade edits of the songs and completely misjudging what is going on. While I am sure that other channels may be better at this, that one channel shows that just because you aren't taking other people's videos, doesn't mean your content can't still be vapid and meaningless.

@@Ze_eT I kinda understand what you're talking about, but I'll give you an example of that content being actually good. There's a 2-hour stream VOD by Music Theory for Gamers where he actually talks about the music theory of the Terraria soundtrack and explains some of the techniques and theory concepts utilized in the music. It was informative and actually fun to watch.

I've seen some small musician's video has been monetized by someone else - the worst part is tha the Music section under the vid is now leading to thief's vid which is uploaded _two days after_ the original - youtube doesn't even care if your video will be the first, it just shaking hands with copyright trolls without questioning anything. KZitem doesn't worth anything anymore for small creators.

Well, IMO, the problem of react content was always in that: 1) Reactor needs to add something significant, if they just look at the video without "live reviewing" it, preferably with talking and discussing while video is paused, then it's just an original video with an animated watermark; 2) Reaction shouldn't compete with original, so it needs so be barely visible and preferably not whole. Say, few years ago I blocked Asmon from appearing in my feed for his lazy spam content. Now he actually gives his opinion on what he watches.

its usually someone's chat that is reacting, rather than the streamer. And the chat usually asks the streamer to stop talking or pausing the video. "But I'm not reacting, I'm just watching it." - forsenE

Ye, but 99.5% of these "reactions" I've watched on YT, rather that live. And all the times it were 3rd party channels who uploaded these vids.

And then there's the problem of there's just so many. Reposts, alts, bots, eventually we'll have a full invasion if KZitem isn't intervening. React content can be reduced to literally a video loop/picture of someone's face and that's "reaction" content.

The worst part is the algorithm is heavily rigged for the stealer or griefer, if a channel has a copyright strike, their video stolen, or something along that line. KZitem will drastically reduce the availability of that video nearly instantly, killing the views and revenue it makes. The worse part, even IF the strike was disputed, the stolen video was taken down, the whole video is still penalized and never recovers. The video essentially bled out and there's nothing you can do to mend it. I use this upload videos but I never want to monetize for this reason, there's no point if it just ends up screwing the user over. People have noticed a slight comeback to these videos, but it takes a couple YEARS and it never fully recovers.
