Hi there, congratulations, there is such an incredible evolution compared to the first videos uploaded ! I have a question : at 01:03, you connect two pipes with quick connectors. But where do you find such flexible pipes ? The polyethylene pipes I am using are much more rigid and it makes everything a bit more complicated. Cheers from France,

Right now the nutrient dosing, lighting, environmental controls (e.g. humidity, co2, temperature, etc.) are all/can be all automated. Maybe someday the planting and harvesting will be too, but right now people still like interacting with the food they're producing for their local communities!

How many heads of kale or lettuce can you plant at a time?
@ZipGrowInc
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shola, great question! In our standard "full bundle" ZipFarm we can fit between 6000-8000 heads at a time. That's in a 1000 square foot room with 450 towers. If we're growing a denser variety we can squeeze a few more in, it all depends how you want to grow and what rotation you're looking at. Another thing to keep in mind is that we never plant the entire farm at once; instead we stagger our plantings so that we can have consistent weekly harvests, and you do not end up with a mass of produce all at one time that cannot be processed/distributed.

Hello, I'm active duty in the Navy, and wondering how sustainable this would be for 1 person as a hobby. Also, wondering the initial cost for setup on a small scale. Considering a highly self sustaining shipping container farm with a small version of what you have in here. Thanks!

Hi Dick, if you're looking into a containerized farm, we'd recommend going with something built from the ground up to grow food. Something like the Modular Farm is a great option for having space to perform farm operations and enough room to control your environment effectively while using the appropriate amount of light. modularfarms.co/

Hi Anar, this has to do with reducing potential leaks. A slight angle will help to keep the water flowing down the back of the tower and not out the front.

Its look cool. But production wise i think you can get even better with some improvement. I had my own in Malaysia. Aeroponic but not dripping, wist instead. Every tower that I have can produce 60 crops at the same time with 8ft tower. I havest all my crop for every 25 days start from germinating. And its equipted with IoT system. Aeroponic ft aquaculture. Good luck man.

Hi Chris - yes the greenhouse shown in our videos was setup for year round production. We had a wood-burning stove to keep it going in the winter months. Yes, taller greenhouses with sidewalls are also a great option for vertical towers. Many of our farmers these days are using sidewall greenhouses for their own production. Totally depends on the budget of the farmer!

Hello! I want to do this in a 40 feet shipping container. How many towers do I need to get the most out of let's say 320 square feet of a total of 400 square feet? Can you please quote me for the towers to fit? The frame I can do it my self before insulating the container. My mail is Saeed@vtelematics.net. Also, why do you need plugs? Can't you just grow in soil then wash the plants and replanting them in the towers held by the sponge? It just bothers me that extra cost to buy those plugs and throw them after every few weeks. Thanks.
@ZipGrowInc

Hi Saeed, before you go down the shipping container route, please watch this video first: kzitem.info/news/bejne/0ZyM26d9cqmZhJw - Shipping containers have a lot of constraints you may not be fully aware of yet. You can definitely start seeds in soil and transplant. That's a great option. The plugs just help the soil from washing away into your system and clogging drippers. Hope that helps!

Bright Agrotech thanks for the reply. Grate videos with useful information. I have watched the video on the link you provided. It looks like this is a very risky thing to invest on especially when you try to inject 85,000$ to buy a ready made unit at one go. Perhaps someone would wonder why I thought for a shipping container. It's simply about heat, expensive lands and the maintenance involved in green houses. Here we do face temperatures of around 14 degC in the winter to 47 or even 50+ degC in summer. If we go for a green house, they are cheap. We got a quote for one that will cover 400m2 customized as per my request for only13000$ semi automated and maybe possible to make it fully automated when you can plug it with something like the auto grow unit. It will come with a cooling wall and both, blowing and suction fans to accommodate the area. That's quite great for that price but cooling of this type is really not so efficient to grow things like high quality lattice, I believe so. Not sure but I have visited some testing green houses managed by the ministry of agriculture and I was disappointed. Cooling walls had sand accumulated and plants in them weren't happy. Am not a farmer but I could tell. In the other controlled green house, hey had three rows all in hydroponic bucket setup. The temperature inside was purposely made to be harsh but each row of plants had a separate sump. Sump 1 had no cooler to cool the roots, sump 2 had a cooler at X1 degC and sump 3 had also a cooler at X2 degC. Row one with sump 1 had showed very tired plants and so on. Not sure what they are trying to prove but still believing that they won't be able to get rid of the green houses and direct sun light issues even with root cooling techniques though it sounds cheaper to run one cooling unit cooling a sump for the whole system. Back to the talk about the cargo containers, I would only need a 2.5 Tone air conditioner to cool an area of 400 Sqrft. For the same area in a green house, I think I would need more air conditioning with lots of energy consumption to keep up with the temperature requirements. The fan and cool wall technique is not that practical in the long run and I believe it won't provide enough cooling for the leaves I am thinking of. The specification says that the system can bring down to temps from 8 to 12 degrees only. So if you are at 47 degC, you will still not be able to grow high quality lattice. If you have any advise, much appreciated on the heat part. I believe you and your team must have researched the hottest areas in USA. Texas would much resemble the climate here. As you said, production in weight per certain period of time is the key. This makes sense. I am still thinking on the containers since hey have proved to grow plants. Unlike the green houses in places like here would be a terrible approach. Maybe we should try to make design that will allow a number of shipping containers to be linked to one another and share similar cooling and control equipments. Let's say we purchase 3 containers and attach them then open them between the walls in a certain way keeping in mind the design that will allow expansion of other containers in future. We would require less than 3 air conditioning units. Doing so, we will have saved to buy automation system for every container since we will have only one sump and one controller unit for dosing and other things, looped all around. 1. New un insulated container 4000$, used for 2500$. We can insulate it here and throw in it a domestic AC. Insulation cost shouldn't be more than a few hundreds. 2. New insulated container 20,000$, used for 5300$ with cooling system installed. 3. Dosing system for let's say 2500$ 4. Water proof grow LED for 40$/ piece 5. Cost for grow towers. Do you believe this idea would make some difference and worthy to go for?

Hi there, Perma. Thanks for the comment, although we're a little confused by the sentiment. Yes, this is very clearly a marketing video - "marketing" defined in the very basic terms of telling people about what our company does/offers. We totally understand there's a lot of negative sentiment about bad "marketing" out there and rightly so. Most of what passes for "marketing" these days is a lot of junk and very manipulative and generally something we try to stay away from. That said, we do need to sell products in order to stay alive as a company. Marketing videos like this allows us to share what our product can do for prospective farmers so we're not ashamed to talk about our products if that's what you're getting at. We're proud of what our products can do and how they can/are helping farmers around the world grow better food for their local markets. The sales from these products help us fund this channel and also our development of new, innovative products to continue making farming more accessible to those who want to pursue vertical farming. Hope that makes sense.
