Yes agreed. Very good album indeed. I needed a few listens for it to get into my head properly as like you said initially it sounds similar. Once it’s got into your memory though it really does hit home. Really good album. Hey Eddy give the latest Diamond Head album a try, it’s called Coffin Train and it’s a solid metal album.

Sorry to disagree about this album. I think once the hype wears off you might look back and realise it’s not as special as you think. It’s just good, not great. Similar to the last AC/DC album. I’d love to see you do another review of this album in a year or two. I’m also not a production guy. I’m more a song guy. This is not as good as The Black Album dude come on. Not even close. The choruses arent as hooky as even the last two albums. The riffs are really good though. Black albums a classic. Also Death Magnetic is better and the most thrash type metal album they’ve done since 88. For me. Very upbeat also. It was more concise, not a bad song on it. This has a few dud tracks. I do prefer this over Hardwired. That was pretty average. Too Far Gone is probably my favourite track on this album, it has the most memorable chorus hook on the album, so we aren’t agreeing on much. I do agree that Vol 4 is Black Sabbaths best album though. World would be boring if we all agreed

Always value another opinion, especially when it's well articulated like yours. I do focus a lot on production, so that's probably why I give this an edge on the Black Album (admittedly the singles from that album are more memorable) and my opinion might change over time (although I still love PWR/UP, so it might not 😉). Vol. 4 is undeniable. Thanks for watching and for weighing-in, brother.

I'm elated right now listening to this album but we'll see in time if I still like it as much. I will agree that DM > 72S > HW though, and that's not to say HW is bad either ; DM to me just sounds hungrier and more focused, it was also the first album I awaited since being a fan in 2004.

I’ll make it easy… KILL, RIDE, MASTER, JUSTICE, BLACK, 72 SEASONS, LOAD,, HARDWIRED, DEATH MAGNETIC, RELOAD and St Anger! Period! 😎🥂🤘. ( before anyone complains.. LOAD is monumental to the HEAVINESS of HW and 72 seasons… if you don’t understand how valuable that change was for this band, you’ll probably not like anything they do anyway! THIS ALBUM IS 100% track equal! Each track is equally GREAT! Every one rocks, everyone is somehow different. I am BLOWN AWAY

I know Load is beloved by a certain generation of Metallica fans and I don't hate it and I appreciate the band doing something different. I'm in the minority, but I actually prefer Re-Load because it's a little darker and weirder. Ideally, they should've been a tighter double album rather than two releases, but that's just my opinion. Thanks for watching and for commenting.

Love that hashtag. It's the first time I've been excited about a Metallica album in ages. There's a real purity to this one IMO. I'm gonna watch your Marianne Faithful video tonight. Funny, because like Lou Reed, she also had an unexpected collaboration with Metallica, and I think it was one of the strongest songs from the Load period. Well, one could say that St-Anger was a consistent metal album (in its own style) without a slow song... And even though I love this new album I would not say that it's Kirk's best work wince Justice, at all. Kirk is doing Kirk here. Nothing wrong with that, but nothing surprising that pushes the songs further, IMO (except some cool parts). I would rank it as a sister album to the black album. The black and the light albums. Like Inamorata is a sister song to My Friend Of Misery. It's consistant, indeed. It's a grower. I'm not sure there are tons of masterpieces songs in it (just good songs and some great) BUT the album itself is better (as a whole) than the sum of its parts. It's a great album.

Good point about St Anger having a consistent sound and no ballad. I was kind of thinking of "All Within My Hands" as an unconventional ballad of sorts, but that might just be my odd take on it. Also good observation about this being a sister album to The Black Album: the light against the black. I dig that! 👍🏼

I have only listened to the new album one time, and I loved about 75% of it. Hardwired To Self Destruct for me was more instant than this one, especially the first disc. This one looks like it is going to take a few more listens for it it to grow on me. I love the first five albums, half of Load, a few songs off of Reload, a few songs off Death Magnetic, and most of Hardwired To Self Destruct. I hate everything on St. Anger. I have to say. I agree. Best album since Justice. The sound is like TBA and Load had a baby, with some KEA and MOP and AJFA and even DM sounds strewn in there. I have to say I disagree with you on HWTSD. I really disliked the first 5 songs. It is not until Confusion and Revenge that I enjoyed the album. Halo was good at first, but doesn't have any staying power with me. Moth was ruined for me by lady gaga. So for me, the album is 3 songs, Confusion Revenge Spitout the bone. On this album, I keep jumping around. But I think my favorite groove is Shadows Follow.

And yes. Overkill seemed they were going to overtake Metallica with their 3 albums: Ironbound, Rattlesnake, and Armory. But they have fallen off a cliff hard. Seems that every album since Armory is running away from that thick big crunching groove more and more each album.

Amazing- I like seeing how HWTSD affected others. For me, it was the same as what happened with this album-- I was repulsed by their singles releases, to the point where I thought, wellllp this album's crap. Not worth picking up. Then I got around to it, and discovered some genuine gold. For HWTSD, I remember being glued into the album when I heard Now That We're Dead. That song was just a- ironically- rejuvenating force of musical assemblage that made me go FUCK YEEEAAAAHAHHHH to the point where I felt compelled to listen on. I was pleased with Halo on Fire, ManUnKind, Here Comes Revenge, and definitely Spit Out the Bone. I was underwhelmed by Confusion, Dream No More, Am I Savage, and although not really caring about Murder One I could appreciate what they were doing there. This one has captivated me with Room of Mirrors, Crown of Barbed Wire, Shadows Follow, Sleepwalk My Life Away, ... and what is sure to be their magnum opus on this record- Inamorata. It's by far overshot their releases of If Darkness Had a Son and to some lesser extent the title track.

@@nunchk9542 Thanks much and yeah: no one listens to HWTSD quite the same way it seems (although most people agree "Spit Out the Bone" rocks). I was with Overkill for the last five albums, so I'm even more generous towards them, but with this last one: their winning streak is definitely over. Scorched has its moments, but it's their weakest album since the mid 00s IMO.
