Thank you for your enjoyable presentations. A couple of (covid/topical) footnotes: at the turn of the 19th century, Rothwell Haigh hospital was originally a Hunslet Union workhouse, and later, a part of it was used as a smallpox hospital. There was also a, smaller, 'isolation hospital' on Haigh Road and a, very small, dedicated smallpox hospital on Stye Bank Lane.

The smallpox hospital is still there on Styebank. It is a private house now.

Moved to the area a little over two years ago and it was obvious there was a long history to the place. It's great not only to see the old images of how it was but also how it is now. Great work 👍

Just like walking back in time with the skillful mixing. Rothwell Urban District Council and Leeds City Council have such a lot to answer for. The castle area, Manor House, Manor Farm and pastures could have been so tranquil and dont get me started on my beloved railway.

Well Darren that was incredible. I felt as though I was travelling in time. The haunting music in the background was atmospheric. Only way I can describe it. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you. Ps I was surprised to see they removed the Merket Cross and whale bones. Usually they are historical Things they don’t move.

They replaced the market cross with a reproduction round the corner and the jaw bones are still there just now on the opposite side of the road. So not too bad I suppose.

Really enjoyed watching that soo many buildings knocked down that shouldn't have been .If only the tram system had been kept and updated too. Very skillful how you merge the old and new photographs makes you imagine what was there beforehand. 🤔🚎

Loved watching this video brought so many old memories back. I am 78yrs old and live in Australia to see the old home place was great. I was watching and watching for the Rothwell Church we were married there in 1966. Thank you for sharing

Wow that was fantastic I really enjoyed the past and present of Leeds or Rothwell I only ever came to Leeds to work in county arcade so I never So much of the town but it’s just fantastic to see how little some places have changed and other places I’ve changed out of all recognition, I wonder if they re-cited the market Cross or did they just knock it down

Yet another fantastic video you put together there I’m intrigued about the jaw bones so where that at the opposite side to where there are standing today then I think read up before that they used to have them at the end of there garden but don’t quote me on it 😊

I so prefer the old photos of areas they look so much better than whats there now in my town of Beith they demolished half of the town for a new road 40 to 50 years ago doh! keep it up love the videos

hi Daz have you any old photos of Spibey lane ? my great grandfather had a small haulage yard there with petrol pumps in the 40's ? his name was Arthur Tiffany and is son Harry I've not much to go on but my dad told me they used their Bedford trucks to help move supplies in the war any information would be amazing I've trolled Leeds city library with no joy - chris

Another very interestingly video. My great Granddad lived in Castleford from an early age but was originaly born in Rothwell around 1890. Throughout his life he was known as Rod because he came from Rodill. I know Rothwell is Rodewelle in the doomsday book but any ideas where Rodill or Rodhill as in Rodilian comes from? .

Excellent then and now fades again. What strikes me is how much street clutter we have today. Yes there were telegraph poles and stanchions to support the overhead tram wires in times past but not the myriad of posts for road signs, parking restrictions, traffic lights, information, etc.

I just love Rothwell lived here all my life. Its such a shame about some of the changes that's happened it's taken away the history of a historic place and not always for the better. It used to be Leeds nr Rothwell not the other way around. Rothwell is steeped in history and its losing its very existence.

This one brought back memories, my great aunt was a nurse at st georges for many years until her retirement, were the jaw bones situated near to the hospital? As I remember seeing them as a small child when we visited Rothwell.
