*Verse 1:*
In the East, they speak of nepsis, a vigilant, watchful gaze,
A practice of the saints of old, who sought in quiet ways,
To guard their hearts from every thought, to shield their souls from sin,
With eyes fixed firm on Christ our Lord, they kept their watch within.
A journey deep, a mindful path, in every breath, a prayer,
To cleanse the heart, to free the soul, with God alone to share.
*Verse 2:*
But in the Reformed tradition, another path is shown,
A call to constant vigilance, where grace and truth are known.
With Scripture as the guiding light, and Christ the sovereign King,
We guard our hearts, we watch our ways, and to His cross we cling.
In every thought, in every deed, we seek to honor Him,
Resisting sin, embracing truth, in darkness, never dim.
*Verse 3:*
Theology divides the two, with different roots and aims,
In Orthodoxy’s theosis, and Reformed sanctified claims.
One seeks the union with the Lord, to share in His divine,
The other seeks to grow in grace, with holiness to shine.
Theosis calls to be like God, to rise to heights untold,
Sanctification leads us on, in faith, both strong and bold.
*Verse 4:*
In Eastern lands, humanity is seen in fallen light,
Yet goodness lies within the heart, to rise and take its flight.
Through nepsis and theosis, man’s image is restored,
The likeness of the Lord Himself, in Christ, the great reward.
Ascetic paths and holy ways, the saints of old have shown,
To live in God, to die in self, in Christ to be made known.
*Verse 5:*
In Reformed lands, the story shifts, with man in dire need,
Depraved and lost, without a hope, unless the Spirit leads.
For sanctification’s work is done by God’s own hand,
Transforming hearts, renewing minds, fulfilling His command.
No merit found in human strength, no power in human will,
But only in the sovereign grace that God Himself distills.
*Verse 6:*
Theosis in the Eastern Church, a union sought with God,
Through sacraments and mystic ways, in holy paths we trod.
The Eucharist, the prayers, the fast, the life of pure ascent,
All lead the soul to higher ground, where heaven’s light is sent.
A journey not just of the mind, but of the heart and soul,
To share in God’s own nature true, to make the sinner whole.
*Verse 7:*
Sanctification, in the West, a path of holy change,
Where faith in Christ and Spirit’s work, the heart will rearrange.
Through prayer, and Word, and fellowship, the believer’s soul is led,
To die to sin, to live in Christ, by whom all sin is shed.
Progressive in its nature, yet rooted firm in grace,
Sanctification walks with God, until we see His face.
*Verse 8:*
Theosis aims for union, the ultimate divine,
Where man and God are brought so near, in love, their hearts align.
It’s not just moral purity, it’s more, a holy bond,
A sharing in God’s very life, of which the saints are fond.
It’s synergy, a dance of grace, where man and God both move,
Together in the holy work, their unity to prove.
*Verse 9:*
Sanctification’s goal is set on Christ, our model pure,
To grow in likeness day by day, in faith and love secure.
It’s not just reaching for the skies, it’s walking in His ways,
With every step, a prayerful act, to glorify His praise.
Completed in that final day, when we shall see His face,
Sanctified and glorified, all by His wondrous grace.
