This is what I've been experiencing/learning for years, now you drop the sweetest confirmation bias that exists on the tube. Bass have "individual personalities" and "pod mentalities" isn't quite as eloquent as what you've put together these past two uploads. Now I've heard the science behind it and don't feel as insane, have a good one 🥃🎣

Thanks for the info Mike, well worth the watch to the end and adds another piece to the puzzle. It also reveals how we’re conditioning fish but also how these traits can be inherited and that getting them to make a mistake is often the only way to trigger these bigger bass into biting. Keep up the incredible work👍🏻

Dude. That is some of the best content I have EVER seen. As a beginner interested in getting into swim bait fishing this gives SO MUCH insight into why it’s worth it to learn this invaluable technique. I strive to learn techniques but the downside is there is not much teaching for beginners or people such as myself, somewhat novice anglers to learn how to perfect techniques. I would like to see you do a video on teaching techniques for swim baits. I don’t catch a lot of fish and I struggle to catch the bigger fish because I simply don’t know how to develop better techniques as a person who does not socialize with many other anglers better then myself. Not because I don’t want to it’s mainly because I’m not exposed to those I could learn from.

Thank you for sharing this information. One of my thoughts on the explorer and non explorer bass is that the non explorer fish are "lazy" and are more willing to eat something that lands in their lap versus wait for what they already knew. Explorer bass are possibly more willing to pass up something not on their menu because they are willing to wait and go get what they know. Simple terms. If your on the couch and you are expecting steak but instead someone brings you chicken nuggets. Some people (non explorer) will just eat the chicken nuggets. However some people (explorer) will get up and go to the kitchen to get their steak. I hope this idea comes out of the text.

There is also a nice study made by Berkley. It´s about how bass react to lures and how they learn. To make it short: the bass was able to remember lures month and even a year after the experiment. And individuals learned from each other.

I would love to see the results of a similar study on salmon populations. If adult fish are pressured on their spawning run will the fry aquire a similar trait to the bass in this study? Very interesting science.

I would think from a biology point of view that LMB while living in different environments will behave slightly different as you say. However, all bass, explorer" or "homebody" all posses a triggering mechanism i.e. come unglued when following a glide then a sudden rod jerk. I'd like to see a study where they compare that triggering aspect of the 2 populations to see if they vary widely. I found this very interesting thanks for sharing, Mike...tight lines

MY bass do not have a trigger, and become unplugged when following a glide and then a sudden rod jerk. It may happen here and there but I'm actually surprised when it does happen. Most of the time, they stop with a look on their face that says "yeah right sucka!"

Maybe explorers expend more energy and need to eat more while home bodies could be limited by what’s available in there environment so they may be willing to eat different things. I think both are opportunistic feeding traits adapted to different environments.

Just something I thought about the other day, since forage species on the east coast don't get as big as forage on the west coast and it's not in the same abundance as west coast forage species, would a 6 inch swimbait on the east coast have the same draw power as an 8 or 9 inch bait on the west?? It kinda makes sense to me when I think about it but I just wanted to hear your thoughts too because you have much more experience than I do
