maynard had a dog miho, whom passed away. he wrote a song about it called Singularity, its by one of the other bands he is in called Puscifer. Go to Puscifer's youtube channel and find it. There is some backstory in the more detail section of the video. he talks about how miho was always there in the recording room barking and making noises that sometimes they left in hidden under the layers of music. Theres also the APC song called kindred but thats about being a father and teaching his daughter who lost her cat about loss and not bottling up and hiding away from people or things because of fear of loss. or thats my interpretation of it. Anyways, much love, hope you and yours are well.

"Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance, Burden of proof tossed upon non-believers, You were my witness, My eyes, my evidence, Judith Marie, Unconditional one" This is the most powerful/beautiful stanza of any song. He is saying that he always needed proof, since he wasn't that religious, while she only ever needed faith. And that's where they differed. In the end, however, it turned out that her unconditional faith was the proof he needed. She was his witness, his eyes, his evidence. So poetic!
@pr0pagandhi511

I still don't understand what "burden of proof tossed upon non -believers" is supposed to mean He's talking about himself and his disposition. He does not believe in Judith's god. He's set in his arrogance about his belief that there is no god and tosses the burden of proof... where? Like I feel it's so natural for atheists (and our love for the scientific method) to toss the burden of proof unto those who make wild claims, aka the believers. Listening closely to it, it surely is "non-believers" (certainly not "the" at least) but how am I supposed to read it for it to make sense? Who tosses burden of what proof upon non-believers and how does it tie in with Judith being his evidence?
@88Grabarz
2 ай бұрын
It's Maynards demand to the belivers to prove that his exists. I think you were right at the start - he does not believe in God, he thinks there is no proof of his existence, but (I think) his Marie's way of living was so strong that it was like a interacts proof for him. Maybe not enough to turn him into a beliver outright, but enough to cause dout maybe? Or at least acgnowleage the real power true faith gave to his mother. It this light is like: " As much as I'm sure (that there is no God) and arrogant, As much as I believe we lack evidence to say that there is a God, You were so strong thanks to your faith, It was nothing short of a divine (and so you are like a proof to me)"

@@pr0pagandhi511 Judith's dedication to her faith remained so strong through the entirety of her tortured existence, that Maynard started to question his own arrogance. The burden of proof, which is typically put on the believers, has now been shifted. It has been "tossed upon non-believers", it's now their job to give their counter. Maynard has always dismissed religion, but here he shows a moment of doubt, that perhaps there was more to it than he originally thought.

He finally dealt with his grief and anger over his mother's passing and let her go. I'm in my 50's, saw them do this a couple times live back during their album tour. I can never listen to this without tearing up. Now go back and listen again without stopping and pay attention to how the music was written, and how it starts out low, because he's sitting in the church at her funeral... and then continues to build, as if she's being lifted up until finally she's demanding her wings from the trinity. There are so many more levels to this song besides just the lyrics. When you stop you lose the flow of the song and music, and I get that you're analyzing it, but now go back on your own, light a candle, kick back and really listen to it.

Maynard never felt anger toward his mom. his book is a must read to get a better idea and understanding of his point of view. Its easy to see how people would come to that conclusion though. If memory serves, he even says something along the lines of faith was all his mother was left with after the accident. how could he kick that out from under her. Not in those words, but thats generally the point. Take it with a grain of salt though as its been a minute since i read the book. the song, Judith is about extremist fundamentalist and the idea that a loving god would visit suffering on his beloved. His book talks about when his mothers incident occured, members of the church would talk behind his family's back and would say that god was punishing her. However, when people try to convey what Maynard's own meaning to the song is and kinda speak on his behalf, i think it important to get that part accurate or rather not speak on his behalf at all. Maynard was never angry at his mother. His book A Perfect Union of Contrary Things talks about clarifies this and the link also take you to the youtube video where maynard lays it out for you. It is inspiring to hear your story and I am so thankful that you are here to carry on in her footsteps. I would highly recommend you giving that song a listen if you would like another song to help you cope through music and relate to the feeling of losing your mother. From reem182: @gmanxxx7225 It really is so incredibly hard to endure loss, especially the loss of someone so close to you. I can't imagine how impossible it must feel to try to move on in the wake of something so catastrophic. And I know that it can feel really lonely during grieving because we no longer have that person who was our one constant shoulder to cry on. Life can feel so hopeless, and finding motivation to keep on pushing feels beyond difficult. Despite all the pain you're enduring, I want you to know that you are NEVER alone no matter how deep the hurt cuts. While our struggles may feel eternal, I don't believe that we were merely made to suffer, and even if it seems impossible now, I know that there is hope for you to cling to. The simple fact that you are here today, with all the memories of that person forever in your mind, proves that their legacy and your purpose are meant to live on. Wherever you are when reading this message, I want you to know, friend, that I am here for you right now, I am praying for you this moment, and I am confident that the light of a new hope will find you soon. All you have to do is hold on with the assurance that hope is coming and you are worthy of joy once again. You are not alone today.

With these lyrical lines MJK elevates his mother above the Godhead: “You are the light and the way that they only read about (when JC is supposed to be the light, the way)…. Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father. Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended”. Just using the word fetch (almost dismissive) places her above them. Fantastic ode to his mother.

Lost my wife to ALS on Feb. 5, 2024. She, too, was paralyzed and unable to speak. Though it was not 10,000 days it was 5 years. Felt like an eternity. She had strong beliefs, which I do not. Vivi prayed for me and the boys and communicated to me how grateful she was to have the boys and me. This song resonates on so many levels. I know more than I'd like about pain, despair, and loss.

From TheTogah: @BrianMacdonald-gs9ic Hey Friend, Thanks for posting this and sharing your story! It's so hard to lose someone so close and can often feel like our world is getting smaller. One thing that helps me in this is looking at the positivity, or trying to find it. Your wife was strong, she had strong beliefs, and sounded like she was dedicated. What continues to help me is knowing that I can carry on that special person's light and bring it to the paths of others. Please keep your head up, and remember that you can still have faith and hope despite having a different faith than her. You still have a lot of love and light to give! Cheers!

From djstarion: @BrianMacdonald-gs9ic Hello friend, I'm so sorry for you loss. ALS is such a horrible disease. I've seen people close to me succombed to it and it's hard to see someone you care about go down that road. What I will say though is that you, your wife, and your kids are absolute warrriors. I mean that! I can tell that she loved all of you with every fiber in her being, and rest assured her impact is always going to be there with you and your boys. I also know more than i'd like about pain and loss and despair, but knowing those experiences and how they scar us makes us stronger than ever. And we're here for you every step of the way.

From jfritzart: @BrianMacdonald-gs9ic Hey man, Thanks so much for reaching it, I’m happy to have you here, and am really grateful that you have shared these vulnerable details with us about you late wife Vivi. It sounds like she was a really special person, and I can only imagine how it must feel for you to go through that journey with your family, and to then have to say goodbye - that loss hits something deep within me. I lost my mom when I was in my mid 20’s to breast cancer, and she also was this leader in my family, this voice of strength and losing her completely shook my understanding of the world and who I was. With that being said, it has been over ten years since I lost her, and I have been able to turn that pain into purpose and her passing inspires me to be a better man, to live in her honour and to continue to make her proud by learning how to be a better son, a better brother and a better friend, in the all the ways that she was there for me. I know you’re probably feeling a lot, and I just want to let you know that we are here to listen, we are here to help support you through this. Thanks again for sharing,

My cousin died in a tragic car wreck. We just had her funeral today. She was a faithful Christian. As a nonbeliever, I was comforted by my sweet memories of her. Most of my family are devout Christians, and their comfort came from a different place. The beautiful thing is, we all had the same result: we were convinced that if there is a heaven, Carla is most certainly there. Give her her wings! Thank you for this wonderful video. My dad passed in 2006 right before this Album came out and it was from Cancer. In his last year he got baptised and turned Religious. "God" took my Dad from my life all too yound and early and it always pissed me the fuck off. Intensely. So when this song came out litteraly one month later after his death, from my favorite artist, it hit home really god damn hard. I was crying along with her to this song. It doesn't get too much more powerful than this. And to the Therapist, your energy is something to behold. I resonated with you immediately. It was pretty profound and strange. Like a kindred spirit. I thought I was done crying to this song but here I am holding back tears with a tightness in my chest. I lost my mom at 17 the same year this album came out, and I remember listening to these two together on repeat over and over and over. It was so cathartic. Also, as a suggestion, if you really want an amazing but deeply visceral song about grief, I would recommend Real Death by Mount Eerie. The whole album is basically him processing the death of his wife in the moment. It's definitely a hard listen and not going to be to everyone's taste since it's so stripped back, but it is intimate to the point of feeling invasive on the listener's part and absolutely an emotional gut punch.

The song "Jimmy" "What was it like to see The face of your own stability Suddenly look away Leaving you with the dead and hopeless? Eleven and she was gone Eleven is when we waved good-bye Eleven is standing still Waiting for me to free him by coming home" He was 11 when she had the stroke, at that time he had an abusive stepdad, his mother kept him literally protected from his abuse. She was the "face of his stability" and she had the stroke and could no longer be who she had been. She looked away. The waiting for me to free him by coming home I believe is reference to his stepdad being able to direct his anger and blame and his own trauma onto Maynard, instead of having to deal with it alone. 10000 days is a direct reference to the amount of time his mother was alive without being alive. "10000 days is long enough, you're going home" Shows he is accepting of her faith, like somebody else commented going from the song "Judith" with a perfect circle to 10000 days/ wings for Marie really demonstrates the evolution of his grief.

From reem182: @ThomasBlack-hv3os I'm sorry for the pain you're going through right now, friend. Enduring the suffering of someone so close to us is one of the most difficult things to go through. How is it possible to have joy or peace when we watch our family suffer? It's one of the hardest parts of life and I know you must be struggling through so many emotions right now. Despite all that pain, I want to let you know that you are so loved and you are not suffering alone in this season. There are so many others crying alongside you, and even though the darkness seems overwhelming so much of the time, I know that you were not made merely to suffer. Your feelings are valid and the pain you feel is not foolish. Wherever you are when you read this message, I want you to know that I am thinking of you and praying for you right now. Thank you for your honesty and for sharing what you're going through; it means a lot more than you could know. Losing someone so close to you can be a lot to unpack and feel like you don't know where to go or where to start from. Your body and mind oftentimes struggle to catch up to one another, so make sure that you're taking care of yourself, eating, sleeping and drinking water. It may seem trivial, but the physical symptoms of grief can hit really hard. All of these feelings that you're currently and experiencing and all of the ones that you will are valid.
