The cage from OUTCAST in the background, so he left it and started a new journey... The swing from WHY ( some say the chick in the swing is supposed to be his mom ) The balloons ( his burdens ) The cage is supposed to represent or how we see it as the cage from Outcast, but in a trolley version that carries his burdens ( balloons ) The white supposed to represent HOPE & If you recall in his HOPE video he is wearing white .... you will see more of the white in the next song LEAVE ME ALONE video was shot in ICELAND

Quick Rundown of your Q's. Yes, he had a breakdown before dropping the Search and had to get treatment, which not only got him a proper diagnosis of OCD officially.. i think it also gave him a fire in his belly to KEEP GOING. I think knowing the name of his disorder helped Nate learn how to navigate and understand his mind much better throughout the entire Search discography. His self titled track, "Nate", is actually a song he wrote inspired by an exercise given while in treatment. It's one of his most interesting and introspective tracks. Then there's other tracks which all make direct small moments of "extra" deep songs exploring his new found knowledge, and learning to traverse it.. big one being the sequel to "The Search", titled "Leave Me Alone". Then, if you go through other songs like "Let Me Go", "Changes", "Only", "Know", "Hate Myself Interlude"+ "Hate Myself" track (They are separate tracks but meant to be played together--Interlude is only 40secs), and few more i'm sure i'm missing.. He drops little details of what he went through and what he learned.. and his personal decision not to be medicated despite his Doctor's apparently claiming he ought to be (he shares his feelings about why he chooses not to in Leave Me Alone.. and then actually says the words in "Only" where he's quoted "Am I motivated? Is my music dated? Would I be the same if I was medicated? Even therapists say I need medications. I avoid it, though, because I'm scared to take it.." Black Balloons - "Burdens".. ie our struggles, demons, trauma, basically our Fears that have become tangentially part of us through trauma. Grocery Cart - his mini "Mansion".. or "Cage" as shown behind him.. it's part of what he took with him leaving the Mansion.. Just a mini place for him to be able to retreat to as an comfort "space" whenever he's feeling down trodden, like the end of the video where he's curled up in it. Also note, his Balloon's being tied to his mental/physical Cage.. and how much he struggles throughout the video to push that cart weighed down by his burdens. Given White Clothing - I think many make the error in connecting the ending where he's given white clothes to his new Hope outfit. His Hope outfit isn't White.. it's Egg-Shell/Off-White.. The difference is important b/c Hope isn't Sterile.. Humans aren't perfect and we shouldn't think it's achievable to be "perfect".. instead, just the best version we can be no matter how long it takes.. However, Hope, having a more yellow tint (yellow also being a colour said to represent Hope in much media.. and a big part of TØP's lore/Journey.. a band that Nate shouts out in his song "Know".. and is a fan of. Just to say.. In Hope, his clothing isn't "WHITE"... b/c.. White Outfit NPC's with Black Balloons - These are meant to represent people who similarly to NF, have burdens, but chose to conform through medication and just being a Zombie going through life (White outfit similar to an institution, sterile).. b/c medication isn't a cure, your disorders/burdens WILL return regardless of how many meds you take. Hence, why they are still carrying their Balloons. Unless you learn to confront and face your trauma and work through it.. medication will only be a weak alternative by comparison. Nate, in all Black, has chosen to take a much more analytical approach and learn how to understand and accept himself as he is.. That is the Search.. The Search for something better.. the Search for Hope beyond his burdens .. The Search for a reason to NEVER stay stagnant and wallow in self pity, and always keep it moving forward. This is why if you pay attention, all his music has a hint relating to "movement".. all his songs thread a line of never stagnating.. to always be moving forward, one step at a time.. It's ok to trip and fall. but to learn every fall holds a lesson to be learned, and picking yourself back up again after every fall being the most important thing he always keys in on, both his videos and his lyrics. Even with a rusty Cart, pushing through what looks like the worst terrain.. just keep moving.. 🛒🗝🖤 #NFRealMusic

It's freeing and the weight being lifted is discovering different sides to yourself that you weren't even aware existed, it tends to almost make you feel like you have to relearn how to be or act around people because being yourself you still really don't know who that is.

Great reaction as always extra bit of back story to this song/album There was an interview that was on the internet with nate, and it was about the search album , and he opened up about the album. He said in the interview that after the perception album came out and blew up. He had to do a lot of tours and performances. And when he was on the road a lot he got really depressed the most he has ever been in he life and he said he did not have much time to write which made him even more depressed. He said that when he finally finished the tours and that he went and put himself in to a mental health institution/program for 2 weeks and he said that where he came up and wrote most of the songs on the search album. And know ge has a personal therapist that he has for his ocd and depression. He goes into more details in the interlude song in the search album, but it is only 1 min long, so I recommend you do interlude and hate myself in the same video the song are connected

My interpretation of the shopping cart is like his mobile cage from Outcast where even tho he is searching for (map to) Hope, he still can't leave behind his safe space, a cage to protect him and almost be in a shell. He goes into the shell at the end when the burdens (balloons) weigh him down and exhaust him. The white clothes are like the others who have a vague sense of hope, but they are still wondering around (in the background on their own search). Leave Me Alone will continue this theme very well

Thanks Kelani. The white clothes represent people who are closer to Hope. You definitely have to watch the continuation of this song and video in Leave Me Alone. He speaks more about his OCD and struggles. You might have reacted to that one already, but even so do it again with this advanced knowledge, he is talking about the have the negative voices in his head in the song Leave Me Alone.

Other people have already described what everything means so I won't go into that, but what I will challenge you to do is to (if you have time) go back and watch some of the older videos again. Now that you know what the balloons mean. What the people in white are. When Nate is "painting on a smile". Nate is VERY involved with all his music videos and everything in them is VERY intentional. He has an amazing story throughout them.

The cart is a mobile version of his cage, he has gotten out of the cage but always has it with him. The black balloons represent his burdens, so they always travel with him. In Leave Me Alone he continues with his cart and balloons. The people in white are essentially other people around him that are covering up their burdens, but if you notice they had balloons as well, so they have them still

he went from trauma and pain, with his family, and mom leaving - this horrible past, that blinded his outlook on life - depression, anxiety, etc - 'The Search' and earlier songs showcase that - the Search even here, explaining this dissociated trauma - wanting to drown this evil, the sin, the devil, whatever you call it - thats what I got from the song, and applied to my life, eventually literally made me go from agnostic, to christian. and later songs, into the Hope album - he contronts that evil, literally learning from his past, to deal with everything that happened, to move on, with his own kid - and actually make the difference he wanted to see with his on life, the chance he never really got himself. Hope, faith, in other words - gets him that, and does for everyone who learns to turn to that side of themselves - to not just point out your pain, to yourself, not to taunt what you thought held you back - but realize you werent at the wheel, so to speak, and you are now - stop letting your past define you, stop letting others, define your life, or labels (go listen to Rens' songs, for that side of things - his physical and mental issues, and labels thrown unto him - society actively playing apart of his lowest points) - and taking control of your future, and actions, which they both end up doing, in this crazy thing called life. Really an amazing testament. love these videos of commentaries of yours too - and others like you - to give your take on the songs, like I have here, and thats what makes this world a better place.

My take on the shopping cart, he has moved out of his "mansion", the walls he built around himself to be "safe"... he is now "homeless" living out of the cart with no walls to hide behind. His clothes are very dark. Not quite black. I dare say not quite as dark as they have been in previous videos! They continue to lighten as he goes through HIS therapy! Those in white have gone through traditional therapy, likely including pills, leaving them wandering about lethargic. Someone offers him the white clothes... he does not put them on. He rejects pills as treatment because of his mom's addiction. Instead he raps to come to terms with his issues. You will see more of the symbols from this video when you do "Leave Me Alone"

The black balloons this is where they come in and the first thing is yes they represent the burdens he's carrying but the other side of it is that the black balloons are an international symbol for mental health awareness and addiction so that is a big part of the burdens that's been carried from having the experience from them.

Hi, in "mansion" and "therapy session" we had part of the picture of his life and subsequently "percetion" arrived, he makes us understand during the album that he is in a cage but he realizes that In the end, he always had the keys. Here begins "the search" he took the initiative to leave the cage of the previous album to go in search of hope "I'm lookin' for the map to hope, you seen it?" map that people who have been following react since the beginning have already seen. in short, here he is in search of hope but being only at the beginning of the adventure he must search while carrying his burden represented here by the balloons. In the background we can see people wandering aimlessly with their respective balloons, all these people are dressed in white to remind us of the asylum and bring to nf is own outfit at the end could potentially tell us that during his search for hope people around thought he was crazy That my point of view so tell my if you disagree guys and sorry if my english isn't accurate kiss from france

Keilani....I have often wondered if the 'blackout' moment at the ending as there is still sound and awareness.... can it be representative of the 'cave' experience while using your therapy to medicate to meditate then come out on the other side into the light more enlightened to the answers that lead to those seven letters 'freedom' Nate is searching for? Now able to rest at the 'stream of consiousness' and reset on his journey of self-acceptance and inner-healing?

This is shot in the desert of Iceland, the video seems very reminiscent to the story of Exodus. The cage = Egypt. From his album previous Perception NF in that he was a slave and trapped by his fear. BUT he had the keys to the cage (knowledge of God/Jesus). In this song he asks if we have seen "the map to hope" (promised land / God's kingdom) but until he finds the promised land NF will be wandering in the desert / world. Just like the Israelites NF carried some of Egypt/Burdens along with them (false comfort in this world) NF still ties some of his burdens to this worldly cart unable to give it up. He still holds the false idols, the dark lies of this world. We all like NF, need to step out of the cage and into the desert, into our searching. And perhaps like Exodus the journey will lead us to the clouds at God's feet. (Exodus 40:34)

Everyone I see keeps referring to the shopping cart as his prison on wheels but I believe it's supposed to represent a form of homelessness and how he's no longer in his mansion. Much like someone who is battling with homelessness, he's pushing around a cart with his belongings but for him, he's only carrying around his burdens. The white at the end can be better interpreted now that he's given us HOPE because now we can see that the white is Hope and at this part of his life, he didn't recognize that. I used to view this white clothing as mental ward clothing where these people are medicated to be fake happy and he's afraid to take drugs because of his mom. So it almost seems like he's avoiding the white clothing that everyone else is wearing. The next video will show this a little better. If I was you, I wouldn't skip any song from this album because it's meant to be felt as a whole but if you do skip around, leave me alone is next, interlude and hate myself need to go together, nate is a good one to dive more into his life as a kid, and let me go is a deep one. Changes is one he says to listen to in this song. And the final song is trauma which is one that isn't a banger. It is just impactful. If you are following a journey, make sure to read the rolling stones article about this album before you listen to paid my dues

My takeaway is he's wearing grey, not black. He's somewhere in between having hope and not having it. The shopping cart is his cage from Outcast. At the end, he hides away from his troubles, and when he stops searching, hope is in the cage with him when he's no longer searching for it and doesn't see it even though it's there.
