Dunno if you figured this out by yourself, but leaving this for all the people that haven't. Lyle might seem like he's got things more put together, but he often talks about how he has mental issues for himself. Not to bring him down, I love the guy a lot and his takes are often very insightful. I think it's important as a viewer to know that he often tells the viewers he doesn't take care of himself as much as he would like, has trouble with substances sometimes and claims to be addicted to sugary snacks. To kind of quote HGGG here, the narrative that he has his life together is one that you have constructed and latched onto, but not one that is based on reality.

This was a wonderful interview. I really loved the part when Dr. K brought up the reason why Lyle had such a vivid memory about preparing for the skit, and then went a step further to relate that to the divorce of his parents and why he DOESN'T have memories of what that was like. Because it doesn't really mean anything to him in the long run. I thought that was a pretty neat way of tying that together and also giving Lyle that "validation" (like he mentioned elsewhere in the video) of his thoughts that it really wasn't a big thing for him, and truly isn't something that needs to be explored further. This channel really puts out some great stuff. I also hope you've been recovering quickly and feeling better, Dr. K.

Loved to hear Dr.K talking about this stuff. There always seems to be a pattern which leads up to this about Zen, flow state whatever. To actually discuss it outside of this framework of "How do I get there". There is literally no problems about anything other than living with an image of how life should be. Being is pure awareness. No place to go to. Was not expecting this. :D

My interpretation of the flow state is when the 'observer' in your mind (the one who listens to your internal monologue for example) the mind, body or world around you. Being immersed in a movie is when your observer is consumed by the movie. Being in a flow state creatively is when your observer IS the creative process. The ego kicks in when you are 'aware' enough of your body and mind, and aspects of your conditioning start affecting it in different ways....or thats where I'm at atm. :)

Many successful people are successful because they are somewhat resistant to disappointment/failure. You hear stories like that all the time of successful people that had hundreds of rejections before a success. When i was young, i cared so much about success that losing and failing would be devastating for me. I forced myself to try anyway, but for each attempt i made, there were maybe five attempts i didn't make. Now i'm trying to make those five attempts and embrace the lessons of failure but boy it sure isn't easy for me. It might be a wrong assumption, but it seems it's easier for the average person.

You can really tell the divorce thing is actually something he probably should talk to a therapist about. He brings it up, avoids talking about it, tries to steer the questions away from it, and makes a big point that it wasn't anything, even though his own inner experience told him it was a "big deal". You can tell he's stuck in a bit of an avoidance pattern around it.

Depending on your social media habits, I would seriously consider using social media (including YT) less. All major social media platforms are designed (with tens of millions of $ and dozens of experts paid) to be addictive, and that's doubly worse for people with ADHD, due to our inclination for constant stimulation, and the fact that these sites are designed for you to *show it* how to make you use it more. Endless content + ADHD brain is a very dangerous combination, and our collective understanding of how bad endless algorithmically-delivered content is isn't even in it's beginning stages yet. Also, start meditating (Dr. K's guide has multiple meditations that are geared for ADHD, like rotating soundawareness). Meditation won't fix your fundamental brain structure, but it will upgrade your awareness, which will make it easier to reign in your ADHD tendencies.

1) Show up 2) Focus on the intention "I'm gonna do X now" 3) Don't give a flying F about the result. Don't judge whatever you're doing. I mean it's trite but....just do it. 4) Sometimes what comes out is trash and that's cool. Sometimes you enter flow and good stuff happens. 5) If you got trash at step 4, you can still edit it later to find some gold. 6) Goto 1.
