I love how the peaky blinders are essentially a crime syndicate, yet have better morals than almost everyone else In the show
@VG-fk6nk

A statement as retarded as: "The yakuza helped after an earthquake, so they're not so bad." - They're criminals. They've killed, tortured, robbed, destroyed property, and so on. Their "morality" is a joke, and they themselves - puny.
@remmy3571
Жыл бұрын
Legality and morality are two very different things. Not everything that is illegal is immoral and not everything that is immoral is illegal.
@VG-fk6nk
Жыл бұрын
@@remmy3571 A man kidnaps your wife, abuses her in every possible way and leaves her broken to nothing. The same man also saved a bunch of kids from a burning house, donates a lot to charity, stands up to bullies whenever he sees them. Is the man, therefore, a moral man? Though with the Blinders, the example is reversed: They usually do a lot of bad shit, but once in a while do 1 """good""" thing, so it's a lot worse than what I said with the hypothetical man. Are they moral, do you think?
@remmy3571
Жыл бұрын
@@VG-fk6nk Well, morality is a pretty sticky subject. Especially in a show as dark and gritty as Peaky Blinders. For reference, we'll use example characters to determine the peak and low of morality in the show. Winston Churchill is probably the most moral character in the show. He does what he does for the love of his country, his people and the crown. He's willing to bend the laws to reach a greater, morally sound conclusion. Inspector Campbell is the opposite. He is the most morally corrupt character in the show, using underhanded and near inhumane tactics for personal benefit. With that established, let's look at the Peaky Blinders. Generally, the Blinders act as Pseudo-police in their crime-ridden neighborhood. They protect and serve the people of their community in manner positive enough to a point where members of the community actively seek them out for help with various issues. Whether it be funding an orphanage, paying for damages when the situation calls for it and providing jobs and income to the less fortunate of their community. Now, when it comes to their less than legal dealing, it becomes a bit trickier. Violence, intimidation, theft and murder are all fair game to the Blinders, however, they tend to keep away from the innocent. In *most* cases, the Peaky Blinders are not the aggressors when violence takes place in the show. Now, there are instances of generally immoral actions taken by characters. For example, when Tommy massacres the Gypsy camp in revenge for Ruby. I don't think this makes Tommy immoral. I think he's done far more good than he has with that bit of bad and while I don't think that justifies it, it doesn't paint him solely as immoral. In conclusion, I think the Peaky Blinders are pretty morally grey but lean much closer to a chaotic good.
@VG-fk6nk
Жыл бұрын
@@remmy3571 So to go back to my example: a man can take your wife, rape her numerous times, pluck her fingernails, stomp her rape-baby's head in front of her, torture her a lot more, and finally leave her a completely annihilated wreck. BUT, as long as he helps a granny cross the street every once in a while, he is not an immoral man. He's just grey, and your wife probably deserved it, since in *most* cases the man does not hurt innocents. I mean. Fair enough. But your moral compass is not worth a damn, it seems.

Like, I would show this as scene to other people so they could see what I'm into and a as way to get people into my favorite show of all time (which I fookin will). I mean, Dude. HOW. GREAT. IS. This entire scene hits home. So many native kids were put in residential schools by the church, and so many never made it home. I've heard stories from older family members, many who are long gone, about the abuses they suffered at the hands of members of the church. "You see the world broken....like those beaten children will" had so much impact I almost teared up instantly. This is a damn good scene, and the reason I started watching Peaky Blinders. Can't wait to get to this scene and season.

This is easily one of the best scenes of the entire series and what makes it so special is how they show great offense for the completely unjust actions committed against innocent children. But what makes it so captivating is the fact that they, being 'The Peaky Blinders' who are crooked and immoral many times over...yet do NOT condone wicked actions of this degree and thus provide the weight of how disgraceful they acted.
