Ah, I grew up in Alaska (lived in a couple different places. Seward, Juneau, and Eagle River for those curious) and I can tell you there were definitely things in the woods out there. Always heard strange noises in the forests and we were always told not to venture too deep into them, especially at night or alone. I remember me and the neighbor kids found an old and hidden trail at the very end of our neighborhood, and we started exploring it. Got a couple miles in and we discovered a very old tree house, only a couple feet up the large tree it was situated in. There were a bunch of decayed dolls hanging from the bottom of it, and some creepy writing that said something along the lines of "keep out" and "beware the forest" on the sides of it. (Felt like something straight out of a horror movie) There were wooden boards nailed into the side of the tree that allowed you to climb up into it, but before we could gather up the courage to head up we suddenly had a very bad feeling in our guts, and we heard a deeply unsettling noise come from deeper within the woods, and after we heard that we booked it back home. Never went back after that. We all felt way too scared to do so. But the moose and wolves are most certainly not the worst things you could encounter out there. Be careful if you do ever find yourself deep in the woods of Alaska.

Thanks for sharing the story and info, it seems to me like alaska and canada are the top wilderness places you don’t want to be alone in because of the harsh temperatures and vastness of woods, not only that but they seem to be straight up hot spots for cryptid sightings and paranormal events. It's infuriating how people who have never been to these almost endless wilderness and jungles have the nerve to say the people that live there for generations some times are either mistaken or lying about what else lives there. Like the Congo in Africa, Vietnam and Alaska and Russia. They might as well be oceans as far as them being unexplored and sanctuary for hoards of creatures. There's enough room in those places for entire towns to be built and wither away for centuries and have never been seen by outsiders.

There was one time that I got lost in the woods at a national park in the US for almost 6 hours while hiking with my dad. We got separated because I'm a moron who wanted to keep exploring after he sat down for lunch. I kept going, and eventually couldn't get back. But every time I started going the wrong way, the wind would pick up A LOT and wouldn't die down again until I was on the right track again. I ended up on a main road in the end and a park ranger found me. I also didn't see any animals other than birds and squirrels, but apparently there had been more bear sightings that day then there had been all that month. If I'm being truthful though, I had the most fun exploring in the woods that I've ever had in my entire life. It was really weird though. I felt like something was watching me the entire time. We originally went there because I wanted to take pictures. Every time I moved stuff around to take one, I would put it back where it came from, and I did my best not to break branches or anything because everything around me felt... different? I think different is the right word, probably. Anyway, whatever may been watching me helped me back to the highway. I couldn't walk the next day, though. My legs and hips hurt too badly. I should go back sometime and say thanks to... um... whatever 'it' was... Oh, I also picked up litter. I had a hiking backpack full of more litter than it was supplies by the time the ranger found me. I can't stand people who leave bottles and things lying around in nature. There's animals who try to eat that junk. You Know who you are!! I'm going off topic, but littering while hiking or camping is the literal worst thing. Just wait until you have a trashcan or something! Stick whatever trash in your backpack like a normal person and keep going. Why must morons just toss it somewhere? God, I hate people sometimes.

I really appreciate that you guys have been posting videos about the native America cultures. As a native myself, I have seen some really unbelievable things on the rez, but I find disappointment in the fact that the universal scary native story is about skinwalkers, when skinwalkers are the most vanilla paranormal phenomena the culture has to offer, so I really do appreciate that you guys take the time to dive deeper into the really weird stuff even public officials cant explain. If i may suggest, look into black mesa’s “boot”, the bandlands banshee, and the white fool...creepy legends with historical documentation if you dont mind very little and at times skeptical articles from the 1840’s-1920’s.

I was always told there were little people, or "Mud men" as my grandfather called them, that roamed the acres of his land on the outskirts of town (I grew up in a small - mostly aboriginal - town in western NSW in Australia). He said these little fellahs have been in that region for a long time, even when the town was first settled, back in the 1800s. He was a drover/stockman/fencer/jack-o-all-trades & had heard stories of small, man-like/child-like creatures that would menace the local farmers livestock, goats, sheep, chicken and even small calves during the night, and the remains of which would be found in the gullies and creeks near the main river. I remember him saying the would come into town in the night in small groups, armed with primitive weapons, (i imagine like a hunting/raiding party) and often have to be chased away by the white farmers. He told me stories of seeing skulls near the river, ancient bones of the aboriginal people which the waters had unearthed (due to a weir being built in the town and the water flowing and backing up into areas it wouldnt normally be) , but also finding smaller, monkey-like skulls too.

At 10:26, I *swear* I initially mistakenly thought you said: "Local newspapers reported that in 1968, a *ghost* hunter claimed to have been chased out of the derelict town by a terrifying creature..", instead of the correct wording *"goat* hunter," because I am an idiot who obviously wasn’t listening properly! [On second hearing, you *clearly* said "goat" not "ghost", but for a moment there I was thinking the story was going in an altogether different supernatural direction - albeit still spookily tangential, I guess - to the unknown possible cryptid attack I was expecting!] Anyway, *cheers!*

If there’s a narrator out there with a better voice, smoother flow of story telling or with more fitting adjectives I don’t know who it would be. You have a mesmerizing way of communicating a bedtime story ! Thanks! I will say this , I seriously doubt that native Americans or caucasians raised in the woods and around bear , wolves and cougars could ever confuse one with some other enormous and unnatural creature. It would be easier for the average person to mistake a beagle for a rat. Something horrified those town folk to abandon there comfortable homes and jobs to pack up and leave. Don’t think they would be foolish enough to leave if it were just bear, I believe they went after them with a large hunting party. I’ve never heard of brown or black bear closing down a whole town or factory.

Every time I read about violent Bigfoot/Sasquatch behavior in a highly remote place where little previous contact with humans seems to have occurred, I wonder if it's a risk vs. reward scenario every time they consider violence toward us. Out in the middle of nowhere, especially in decades and centuries past, there is no way for anyone to know what happened if they're careful. I'm reminded of Bauman's tale that Teddy Roosevelt recounted in one of his books and also of the Ape Canyon Incident and various Native accounts of cannibalism, abduction and so forth. Whereas those that live closer to humanity may often feel a need to be more careful. They know best of all what guns are and also that killing or abducting a human in any sort of proximity to our settlements brings more humans. Bigfoot/Sasquatch families/clans seem like they would be fairly isolated with possibly some seasonal meet-ups. I wonder how and if word of these things travels between them. Just some musings on my favorite cryptid and the one by far I have the most personal experience with. Thanks as always for a great channel!

Lifelong born and raised on the Kenai peninsula, I can only tell you we know all to sell the placwe best enjoyed only from a distance and not to encroach in. I enjoyed listening as it reminded me of when with childlike niavity I used to wonder about such possibilities. Then I met with the reality like so many of our local folks do. No longer imagine what could be but rather imagine how it would be to still share in wonder with the portion of your audien who still hold the beauty of not knowing, not seeing, and still searching for answers.. Alaska holds answers but we let those who search discover on their own. We value our independence and respect others. Cheers.

This one sent shivers down my spine. A friend of mine goes to Alaska every summer to do fishing work for the season over in Chatham. Her cabin happens to be situated over by dogfish bay. I've only been there once with her for work.

I saw something in a wooded area one night that I can not explain. It wasn't a forest, but it is a cemetery that sits in a wooded area next to a small river. There are only a few people buried there, with most of them being buried in the late 1800's. As soon as you climb the steps to get into the cemetery there are two tombstones right next to each other with the names of America Huff, and Aqualia Huff. If you go to the very back of the cemetery, there is one of those tombstones for a husband and wife, with the names America Huff, and Aqualia Huff. That isn't even the weird part. I was telling a group of friends about those tombstones because they have the same birth dates, but different death dates on them. My friends wanted to see, so we went. It was dark and the stairs to get to the entrance were kind of dangerous at night if you didn't know your way around. I was the only one with a flash light so I went to the top of the stairs to shine the light down so nobody would fall. When I was turning, the beam from my light passed over some trees right next to the small river. I saw something that I can only describe as being dark colored, and about as big as a Volkswagen Beetle. It took off and there was no way that it could have been any type of vehicle because the only thing I heard was the sound of it's feet hitting the ground, sticks snapping, and leaves being thrown up in the air due to the footsteps. Whatever it was, it is very fast too. I don't really get spooked by much of anything, but I walked back down the stairs, turned my light off, and told my friends we ain't going in there tonight. They were surprised at how I was refusing to go back in there, but I have a fondness for being alive, and would like to keep being alive for as long as I possibly can. It had to be some kind of animal, and if my 75 lbs rottweiler could man handle me with ease, this thing could kill us all without breaking a sweat. I still go there from time to time, but even though it has been a long time since that happened, I don't go at night anymore.

Any chance it could have been a bear? Should have gone back the next day to see if there were any tracks. Or if viable you should go back in the day and stick a few go pros in different directions, come back a few days later and see if anything got picked up. I do believe you though, which is unusual for me with strangers on the internet.

"And in some ways, whether it ever actually existed is entirely irrelevant. It continutes to haunt the forests surrounding Portlock Bay, even to this very day." Now *this* is how you end a ghost story (speaking of ghost stories as a genre) as a neutral observer. It doesn't *matter* whether it's real or just a distortion of mundane predators the minds of those who encountered it. The *fear* is real.

I can understand not believing these tales, but accusing native peoples of misidentifying animals they've undoubtedly seen their whole lives as monsters is just insulting. Would you suggest a castle rancher had just seen a cow and was too scared to identify it properly? There's skeptical, and then there's what you're doing here.
