PURE GOLD! PG pilot here, currently on my thermal-coring progression course... I'm literally obsessed with thermals. Lots of advice around me, but none of it seems to be consistent... Which is exciting to me as it leaves a lot of room for research, thinking, studying and practicing... I'm frustrated at how much I suck at thermalling, but I'm determined to develop a consistent method and succeed... Thank you so much for posting!

"Concise - Adjective: Marked by brevity of expression or statement: free from all elaboration and superfluous detail." There is very good information here unfortunately most probably bailed within the first 5 minutes. A solution that helped me get through this 30 minutes of information was to change the playback speed to 170% minimum. Also, use the right arrow key to skip 5 seconds ahead with each press to get past the minutiae that serves no purpose. Eric thanks for the video, it made a lot of points much more clear after I came up with a method that allowed me to get through it.

I feel so blessed to have learned this. I think if I use it, I'll be miles ahead of other comp pilots that I currently look up to. IF, I put in the work.

Excellent. I really liked on how you inverted Jim Lee's quote to show that we can get 90% performance without having to over exert ourselves. Tired pilots trend toward decreasing performance and increasing mistakes.

I am a guy that wants to learn to fly with hang gliders. I got my solo in a 152 Cessna over 43 years ago and have not flown since. But now I am in a better position in my life to allow my self the thrill of hang gliding. At 23 I loved flying more than my body building but I wanted to utilize my youth for as long as I possible, which I have done in spite of injuries. I am a retired Merchant Marine sailor and live in Tijuana, Mexico, so great weather. I want to learn as much as possible before I buy a hang glider. At first I thought that a Ultra light trike with a small Electric motor for $17000. and built at the factory, would be real nice. I came across hang gliding and thought that hang gliding is the ultimate in flying, the peace and beauty of everything around you was too much for me and decided to look into schools and the hang gliders them selves. The effect of the weather is very interesting so here I am learning about Thermals. Thank you very much. Kevin from sunny Mexico.

trying to outsmart a thermal, like trying to outsmart your dog, is almost futile. Thanks for your considerable effort and experience.

This is awesome! I'm an awesome stick/rudder and decision pilot but I must admit that really suck at thermaling. Look forward to trying out some of this new knowledge next season.

I'm just getting into this sport and PPG. I'm very early in studying and Kiting wings. I was wonder if anyone has heard of any experiments, with using smoke to visualize thermals? I like the help Eric Carden!

Hi Jarrod. I've seen computer generated convection visualizations, but I don't know that I've seen anything like that using smoke. Good luck learning to thermal!

Wow I stumbled over your 1-2-3 video and then this. Cudos Sir, as a novice licenenced sailplane pilot I really learnt alot. where can I contact you regarding the use of Condor and improving my skills along side my local flying? Do you have a real life video of you doing this thechnique? It would be intersting to view how much you "play" with the stick Thanks again, Rami
