In this segment, we first discuss the concept of the isentropic process and illustrate that reversible and adiabatic processes are isentropic processes (the reverse statement is not necessarily correct). We also state that the isentropic process ends up with the maximum energy or power output for a turbine and minimum energy or power input for a compressor or pump. We then derive isentropic relationships for ideal gases. We also solve an example problem illustrating the solution steps.
