The only way anyone should have an exotic “pet” is if it is a fully wild lived rehabilitation center. These animals should have ACRES to run on, not be stuck inside a 50ft x 50ft “like natural habitat” and expected not to become full of anger and rage! Animals have feelings too. Any living creature would go insane being confined 24/7/365… You should have to have at least 200 acres or more PER ANIMAL…

@@missykurtz5552why are we being so politically correct. Clearly the OP was referring to the exotic pets as mentioned in these videos! As an aquarium hobbyist, even some fish should be left in the wild. Especially for those who want a “hobby” and learn it takes a lot more than they are ready to take on, so they release those fish into the wild….if one is an invasive species (such as the pleco in Florida) it will destroy the ecosystem in that area. Maybe not overnight, or in a week. But some have the potential to overpopulate and destroy a small pond within a year or two.

There's a lot of animals that are perfectly safe to have that are in the exotic pet label. So no, there should not be a ban on all of them. Though the more dangerous ones should have greater regulations on their guardianship. For the safety of all. And in no-way should they be kept in such deplorable conditions. If you cannot afford a certain minimum standards of faccilities and of care and have the credentials, you have no business having such an animal.

As a musician, I was hired to do music at a Big Cat Park in southern Oregon. Before the gig, the owner allowed me to accompany him as he fed the various cats and cleaned the enclosures. I don’t remember the numbers or all the varieties but it was impressive. There were 2 cats that were no bigger than house cats. You could easily mistake them as the household pets if you didn’t notice the size of the claws. Later, the woman who conducted a the tours told me that the owner feared those two little kitties more than any of the other cats and had been injured by them more than all the others combined. One other vivid memory I have was looking in the tunnel between the public space and the back area where a big black cat lived. As I looked within I saw two glowing yellow eyes looking back. That was all I could see, those yellow eyes watching me closely. I never felt so much like prey in my life. I was completely unnerved and I knew that the cat would have most certainly eaten me if not for the fence between us.

@@incineroar9933agreed. it comes down to ego, and it's usually men keeping (and thinking they are dominating) dangerous or exotic creatures. the Big Cat Public Safety Act was recently passed and it's now illegal to acquire or breed big cats in the U.S. without proper zoo accreditation. (i don't recall if anyone was grandfathered in without accreditation, but i don't think so) this did put an end to the despicable practice of cub petting as well as roadside zoos. cub petting resulted in mama big cats being over bred only to have their cubs taken away at two weeks old so their cubs, starved, can be bottle fed by strangers until they are too big to be "cute" and are discarded, sold to the highest bidder or killed outright. white tigers only result from inbreeding. we can thank Tippi Hedren, Carole Baskin and a few other dedicated people for the passage of that law.

Well he looked after them, as cubs, did he give the wrong signals, for them to attack, even though, they should have reasoned he didn't want to be eaten, rather ungrateful, after 13 years or so, they deceived him, a true animal who had been looked after by his owner, would never stab him in the back, or eat him, they would always find other prey or food, even risk their life, but never attack their owner- their own greed for food got the better of them, and they paid the price.

Story 1 He was seen by the lions as the pride male(the leader of the pride) problem is that male lions have an instinctual desire to take that place. So at this point he got old, he was weaker, the male lion saw his chance and took it. A male lion, that is not already a pride male, will take the chance to become pride male when it sees an aged or weakened pride male.

When I was a child my neighbours had two lion cubs in their garden and we'd often pet them and play with them. Their mother had been killed by poachers and they were being bottle raised. But as they got a little older they were rehomed to a wildlife preservation center where they could live in captivity but as close to their natural habitat as possible. They were used to humans, so impossible to set free, but they were still lions, so it's not a good idea to keep them as pets and pet them and stuff even though they had been as babies. As adults they weren't in close contact with humans anymore. Keeping wild animals as pets is not just dangerous, it's also morally wrong. They belong in the wild, and if they are rescues who can't be set free, they belong in wildlife sanctuaries that are as close to the wild as possible.

Re Teddy the bear: I think that part of the problem is that people like these owners think they’re safe and all is ok if they get their permit, build a strong cage and give the animals a huge amount of love and treats. The truth is that before anyone should be allowed to own and keep an exotic animal they need to have undergone YEARS of study and a lengthy apprenticeship in this field. Even then there are no guarantees but it levels the playing field. And you absolutely cannot make the mistake of thinking that the animals behavior as a kitten or cub, no matter how affectionate and loving, predicts the behavior of the animal as an adult. It doesn’t. I had an experience at about age 6. I lived in San Diego, CA and most people know about the world famous San Diego Zoo. When visiting the children’s zoo we were treated to a rare treat. 3 baby lion cubs, around 3 months old, and their trainer were outside the nursery and were in a huge concrete circle. We children were allowed to sit on the rim of the circle and pet the babies if they would come near. There were maybe 8-9 children (forgive my vague memory but I’m 70 now) all trying to coax the kittens but being rather loud and the kits were scared, clinging to their trainer. I’ve always had a connection with animals although my late husband was much more incredible than I was. Being introverted around people I was quiet and just sat there while the other children were screaming and trying to grab the kittens if they got close. I quietly coaxed and finally one kitten came to me and I petted him softly, talking gently. There was an absolutely obnoxious little boy who would grab at a kitten roughly and pull and scream. After I made contact with one kitten, the second and third one became curious and came to me. I was draped over the concrete edge of the ring trying to love and cuddle all three at once. The big rule the trainer insisted on was that no way were we allowed to put our feet into the ring. But this trainer knew her babies. She saw all three of them trying very hard to get cuddles but could only reach my arms. She told me to sit up and swing my legs over into the ring but stay seated. I asked her if she hadn’t said we couldn’t do that. She told me “YOU can do it, they can’t. When I did all three kittens decided it was open season on me to get all their love. Sitting like I was, I finally had one kitten on each arm and the third one was half in my lap. Ok I don’t have to tell you that I was as close to heaven as any 6 year old is likely to get. The mother of the obnoxious boy (who was there the whole time and saw how her son behaved but never corrected him) angrily demanded of the trainer why I was allowed to sit with my feet inside when her son wasn’t. The trainers and staff at the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park didn’t take any crap from anyone where their beloved animals were concerned. She told the mother very bluntly it was because I knew and understood animals while her son did not and that these were just babies. She said that as babies they could be easily frightened by aggressive behavior by humans and they didn’t want that at the Zoo. What was happening that day was an exercise in helping young animals to get used to the presence of humans so that when they were old enough to be out in the Zoo, they would feel comfortable with all the humans that visited. Well if allowed I would have stayed all day. My mom was cool when she saw what was happening and I had over 1/2 hour, maybe 40 minutes with those babies. Obviously it made an incredible impression on me because I can recall it almost 65 years later. I believe I was mildly autistic when younger and this may have given me the ability to communicate with animals more than some. I do know that there are a lot of animals I trust easier than people. Sorry I ran on so. I hope videos like yours will continue to educate people and make them realize that you can’t domesticate wild animals.

Wonderful story and memory. I am soon to be 60, have worked with big cats, bears and other exotics since age 26. I had no idea I was autistic, age 55 diagnosis, but made perfect sense. All I will say is, the folks with egos get taken down quick, they have no innate ability with these animals. Since there is no way to stop animals in captivity, many have a good home and many do not, I did my best to make them as happy as possible, they were my friends. I have never been bitten or clawed. All animals give you a warning and its the human's fault when they do not heed it or don't see it in the first place. The older gentleman, imho, just became too complascent, maybe he was sick and the lion sensed it, but to turn your back and crouch down in front of 2 lions, 1 lioness, maybe it was suicide because that is just plain foolish.

Don't agree with the 'all exotic animals need years of study to keep" as there's a lot of animals that fall into the exotic label that are harmless to keep. Just ppl need the proper care and education to do right by them but for leopard gecko's and numerous others, it doesn't take years of study to learn to keep them.
