What I can do instead is do the 9 from top of my head that I remember the effect and name of even if I agree they are not broken enough. 1) Pot of greed... just drawing 2 is still OP I disagree how OP but its broken.. 2) OG Crush card... pre errata effect where 1000 or less dark is attributed. then all 1900atk or higher monsters on field and in hand and added to hand until the EP of the 3rd of their turn after it was activated. before drawing or adding during that time the card is revealed to check if it qualify. This may have been the animes version of effect... but like others on this list I might not care. Its the 9 I think of not the 9 I took time to weed out the questionables. 3) Spirit Exchange... OG pre-errata. you have 15 in GY then its active... so Turn 2 chain to effect where opponent would draw they find their deck and GY swapped even if no cards are in GY; uh-oh. 4) Last Will... you explained well enough. 5) Count Down... to easy to hold off for the 20 turns. 6) Royal Oppersion... you explain well enough. 7) Ash Blossom... does to much. 8) Soul Charge... does to much. 9) Future Fusion... sets up to much and is to fast in its OG form.

Here are the Magic equivalents of these 9 cards: (Keep in mind that draw 3 in 60 card deck = draw 2 in 40 card deck) 1. Pot of Greed -> Ancestral Recall -Widely considered the best card ever 2. Graceful Charity -> Wheel of Fortune/Windfall? -Especially on power level. Though Faithless Looting and Frantic Search are closer in design (i.e. I want to draw and then discard things that I want in my graveyard) and mana cost. 3. Delinquent Duo -> Hymn to Tourach -This is the same card (except for the 3:2 ratio), but it has a cost. It makes a world of difference in power level so Hymn is not broken, but Hymn is still good enough that they'd never print it in a modern set. They don't do random discard any more for a reason. 4. Painful Choice -> Intuition or Gifts Ungiven -Kind of halfway between, but with bonus cards to graveyard. Intuition can grab 3 of the same card, so it works as a true searcher, but for rules reasons Gifts Ungiven can put any two cards you want right in your graveyard. Choice looks more powerful than both though. 5. Last Will -> Oath of Druids or Natural Order -The closest in power level. Pattern of Rebirth might be the most similar, but 4 mana for that effect is not that good. Summoning Trap is close, but it triggers on countering (negation) and only looks at the top 6 for a creature. 6. Soul Charge/Dimension Fusion -> Command the Dreadhorde or Rally the Ancestors? -Neither are broken, they're expensive enough that they need to be run as aristocrats combo decks. Dimension Fusion has no true equivalent, exiled cards usually can't be brought back. 7. Royal Oppression -> Containment Priest Nothing quite like flashing that in when your opponent Sneak Attacks in an Emrakul. In magic it's a card for enforcing "fair" decks though, in Yugioh I think special summoning is more fundamental. 8. Imperial Order -> Stasis -Does this prevent spell card effects from happening at all? If so, it might be closer in practice to Rule of Law or Teferi, Time Raveler where it can just turn off half of your opponent's deck. 9. Magical Scientist -> Protean Hulk This is the hardest one. The card's play pattern mostly reminds me of one-card combos like Ad Nauseum or Hermit Druid, but the closest thing Magic has had is the one tournament where both Protean Hulk and Flash were legal. It's one of the few turn-1 win decks magic has ever had, and it did it by searching up creatures and throwing enough at your opponent to win, guaranteed. It being stapled to a monster and costing life reminds me of Griselbrand, though he draws cards instead. Bonus: Spawnsire of Ulamog is the only thing I can think of that does something with outside cards like this, but it costs *30 mana*. Magical Scientist is a level 1 Monster. Also: Timetwister is Fiber Jar. I'm surprised that isn't on this list.

If we can count the pre-errata "iconic" version of cards then I would put Chaos Emperor Dragon on my list. Easily searchable, easily summonable, and rips every card out of your opponent's hand turn 1. It's easily still one of the strongest monsters ever printed

Even pre-errata it wouldn't be in that exclusive group. The effect's still good, but nowadays it's way easier to come back from it with graveyard effects being way more of a thing than back when CED was initially running rampant. Worst case scenario it screws you over in an ensuing topdeck war. Yes, it can close out games with the burn damage it can potentially inflict... but so can a lot of other cards, some even coming just straight from the extra deck (looking at you, pre-errata Darkstrike Fighter). In MTG there's a card that's VERY similar to Painful Choice called "Intuition" which allows you to search your library for any 3 cards. Your opponent chooses 1 of those cards to put into your hand and the rest go to your graveyard. It's an Instant (Quickplay Spell) with a mana cost of (2)(U) (Which is 3 mana, 1 one of which MUST be blue.) This card is REALLY good and sees play in basically every format it's legal in (which is not very many of them, lol.) For those wondering, (2)(U) as a mana cost is about the equivalent of "Banish 2 cards from your hand, face-down." in terms of card economy. A little resource intensive, but absolutely worth the cost if you can manage to play it. There's also a card called "Gifts Ungiven," a spin on the card Intuition that was released in 2004/2005 during the Kamigawa block. Since then, there have been multiple "Ungiven" type cards released that follow the "Intuition" play pattern of searching for some cards, then your opponent chooses a card to give you. Super fun video!

I immediately thought of Intuition as well lol. And even though it's two piles of cards you reveal straight from the top of your deck (as opposed to 3 cards you cherry-pick directly yourself), the card Fact or Fiction is SORTA similar, and was one of the most heavily-ran cards of it's time. I always thought of it like FoF is just to (hopefully) net you some card advantage, and Gifts was better for helping assemble a combo or dominant board state. Same situation with the Delve cards Treasure Cruise & Dig Through Time, respectively. Damn...I love MTG. I also love Blue. ...and winning lol. 💙💙💙🤌🏻

The other reason drawing cards seems so much more powerful in YGO is because the deck size. YGO has a size of 40, everyone else is 60. That means that there’s a lot of consistency added naturally and drawing just one card let’s you statistically have more knowledge and a lot more resources than other games who’d be drawing the same amount. Both Ancestral Recall and Pot are statistically letting you see the same amount of information. (2/40=.05 | 3/60=.05) The main difference between them is spell speed and that one requires resources to use.

I definitely agree with most of these, my only issue is with some cards that weren't that good when they came out and only became broken due to not being future proof. Last Will especially wasn't all that good back then outside of Magical Scientist FTK and some rouge rescue cat combos. Back then having to lose a monster during your own turn was a seriously difficult trigger while getting any monster with 1500 or less atk was a bit more situational. Nowadays the sheer thought of Last Will is obviously ridiculous but it took some time to get there. Dimension Fusion is also extremely broken, but somewhat more situational compared to other cards. The power 9 in mtg are designed to fit into almost any deck, and while a lot of decks banish stuff, I feel not enough decks banish so much stuff that they can really abuse dimension fusion. And ultimately Royal Oppression was also pretty weak when it came out, and it's also not a card every deck would like as it's sturdier than Vanity's, but that also means it's a bit more symmetrical. It also falls off pretty hard going second for a lot of decks. My replacements would be Confiscation and The Forceful Sentry as those are pretty much the same as Delinquent Duo, only taking 1 card but in return always taking the card the opponent least wants removed while Delinquent Duo always takes the card they most want, then has a 25% chance to also take the card they least want. And ultimately pre errata Chaos Emperor Dragon. With how easy it is to set up your board and hand and with how prevalent gy effects have become, resolving a turn 1 ced means you usually still end on a solid board while your opponent is reduced to 5 random cards in their gy and whatever they top decked. Admittedly it is a bit situational too, but it's just easy enough to splash into decks too.

Careless powercreep in favor of greed from Konami and lack of formats is what I consider will soon be YGO's downfall. The game as it is currently is really getting out of hand. Tbh, after playing 5 full duels of YGO your brain is burnt to a crisp, while after playing 5 duels of MTG or even Pokemon TCG you feel tired but the mind feels invigorated. Long turns(few but way too long any CG should allow), the chance that you may lose duels without doing a single thing and toxic decks that you know people play spitefully instead of gleefully and in good fun, really hurt the game imo. Awesome video as a new fan but also only a Magic player. For fun I'm going to see if I can tell you the card in Magic each of these effects mirrors more or less from what I can think of. Pot of Greed is definitely Ancestral Recall. Graceful Charity is like a few cards we have where you draw 3 and discard 2 unless you discard a card of a certain type, although it probably plays closer to one of the cheaper but worst card economy cards like Faithless Looting. The card not costing resources makes it very good in YGO. Delinquent Duo is basically Hymn to Tourach (op discards 2 cards at random) which again costing zero cards is crippling to your op. Painful Choice is essentially Gifts Ungiven which is great for the same reasons as in YGO. Last Will is almost like Tinker where you lose a guy but then replace it with something insane, just smaller in YGO, and games easy from there. Dimension Fusion and Soul Charge are basically reanimate spells. One works a lot like Exhume. busted effect when its free. Royal Oppression a bit weirder since Magic wouldnt have an on board effect like that so much. Imperial Order probably has a better analogue, i just dont know it. One of the biggest lockout from playing spells cards in MTG is Iona who stops all of one color from being cast, one sided. Fun to note that in yugioh, card selection is the name of the game due to much less fundamental resources, resulting in the cards in your video, and in MTG the mana system is the base and so 6 of the 9 power 9 are just boring ways to get ahead on tempo. Note these cards are only the power 9 of the rares in the first set, and it's pretty unanimous that Sol Ring which is either a common or uncommon is essentially tied with Black Lotus and Ancestral Recall as being the best card in the game. cheers.

I can't think of anything like that and, even if it does exist, that sort of effect isn't NEARLY as backbreaking as it is in YGO haha.

As a primary Magic player and having played Yu-Gi-Oh up until 2011, great list! I think the hardest part of doing something like this for Yu-Gi-Oh is the lack of resource management. There are cards that do similar things to the Mox, but it's not a mox if it doesn't cost 0. Ancestral Recall and Time Walk are Power 9 because they are so cheap to cast in comparison to other cards with similar effects. Lotus not only cost 0 but also gives 3 mana, at the cost of not being reusable like the Mox are. In terms of power level though, all the cards you choose are great. Having played primarily in the Chaos and GX era, it's crazy to see most of these cards still being banned.

My own power 9 list was almost identical (I had Confiscation and The Forceful Sentry instead of IO and Royal Opression). One card I heavily deliberated over that didn't make my list was Pot of Prosperity. While sure it's technically not banned, it's still inarguably one of the strongest cards of all time. The sheer ability to dig deep in your deck gives a massive boost to consistency, especially for decks that only particularly need 1 starter to combo off. And that's not to mention that it can get you an additional handtrap going first or help you find a board breaker going second. In the right kinds of decks, it can sometimes be even better than Pot of Greed or Graceful Charity for those reasons.

I think Last Will is silly busted in the same way that Pot of Greed or Graceful is busted - even if certain archetypes or deck strategies have similar cards available (i.e. multiple Pot retrains, E-Teleport), these are effects to gain advantage or maintain resources while also setting up that are generically available with no cost. So it 100% belongs on this list. That said, I was looking through the comments to see if anyone mentioned Ultimate Offering because I also agree it should for sure be on the list. I would honestly put it in place of Soul Charge tbh - Charge is strong and objectively broken and could fit in my reasoning for Last Will by pointing out Rekindling as its counterpart, but UO is a card that legitimately breaks an entire game mechanic for a miniscule cost, including dropping monsters on your opponent's turn like you're a Floowandereeze player...only everyone can play it and it's even searchable with cards like Lord of the Heavenly Prison.

Most of these cards are actually broken because Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't have a ramping resource system like energy and mana. in those games, you're just as limited by the turn count. Yu-Gi-Oh is odd in that you're able to play as many cards as you want in a turn. hence why modern Yu-Gi-Oh rarely sees turn 5. cards that get you more cards with little restriction are overpowered as sin. MtG and Pokémon do have official formats where you can use the entire card pool. Yu-Gi-Oh also happens to be weird in that it only has 2 formats (traditional and advanced) that are basically only 1 format.

To add to this, as an mtg player, it's fascinating to me that there's no "deck-building cost" in yu gi oh . At least not in the same way there's in magic. If you a play a ramp spell (a card that allows you to put into play an extra land that turn, or a creature that adds mana like a land would) you get a mana advantage, you have available 3 mana rather then 2 on your second turn and that's powerful: it allows you to play 3 cards costed 1, 1 costed 1 and 1 costed 2 or 1 costed 3, meanwhile you're opponent has to work with 2/3 of those resources. What we call "deck-building" cost is the fact that for how good ramp spells are in the initial turns of the game, they impact negatively your late game, they don't impact the board, they don't interact with your opponents etc, so putting them in your deck means that those cards will give a "midgame" advantage enabling more powerful stuff to happen early to midgame, but you'll always run the risk of top decking one of those card when you need a kill spell or a payoff. It seems to me like archetypes in yu gi oh are self contained, they are a list of cards that refers each other and gains benefit working to each other, and their power level is defined by their consistency and by how "good" is the thing that they do, it's no wonder that the most broken cards are those that basically have what look like "universal applications". I hope that this made sense and that I didn't judge wrongly by that much.

@@daderr99 I think the main thing stopping there being a "deckbuilding cost" in yugioh is the extra deck. as an mtg player i love to draw parallels between mtg and ygo cards, so heres the list: - Pot of greed, a surprise to no one, the yugioh parallel for ancestral recall. - Graceful charity is the same effect as cahartic reunion, its strong. - Delinquent Duo kinda works like hymn to tourach, except theres only one random discard instead of two. - Painful choice is intuition/gifts ungiven. - Last will, I cant find direct parallels in magic but reminds me of certain cards that ranimate/recur other creatures when something else dies (scrap trawler being a similar effect on a stick). - Soul charge, i can only think of reanimate but with the ability to have multiple targets... thats broken lol. - Dimension fusion, living death but it doesnt reanimate from the yard, i do love me some mass reanimation. - Royal oppression, idk man, paying a bit of life to counterspell is not something mtg has ever done, specially not on a continuous effect, there are cards that either will generate you resources unless your opponent pays life or mana and there are cards that allows the player to pay resources to counter spells, generally discarding a card (kozilek, he great distortion) but they are quite limited for their own sake and none offers the ability to counter by paying life, thats a busted effect. - Imperial order, then again, hard to draw specific parallels but its sort of an inverse standstill, this card basically freezes the game until the owner of the card has no life points or decides to go off if thats even an option, i see why its banned. - I'm gonna get ahead of myself and risk it by guessing: the monster card of the power 9 is Ash Blossoms, I know that card too well, its yugiohs force of will except that is literally has no cost whatsoever... okay it wasnt, fml. Magical scientist, paying a set amount of life to summon a powerful card, it cant attack but it can have static effects or activated ones that can start combos... yeah, sounds busted, can that effect be repeated during the turn? if so its as broken as i think. No direct parallel in mtg here, a similar card that i can think of rn is bolas citadel which allows you to play the top card of you deck by paying life equal to its cost, its a fun and busted card. but wait, theres more! citadel also allows you to sacrifice 10 cards in play (permanents) to deal 10 damage to your opponent (half the life) its not what breaks the card in itself, but it not hard to assemble a kill with that effect.

Not to mention it took away one of the three win aspects of the game since you wouldn’t deck yourself out. But to find the true power 9 you’d have to look back at base set trainer’s such as Energy Removal, Gust Of Wind, Item Finder, Computer Search ETC. We’ve had reprints of some of those in the form of Ace Spec card’s meaning you could only play one per deck or they changed to a coin flip like Crushing Hammer to discard energy. Those cards in a modern format printed with the exact original text would be busted. Or cards such as Professor Oak which allowed you to discard your hand and draw 7 cards. Those cards exist today but only in Supporter form so you can only play one per turn. Back in that era there were no supporters. Everything was a trainer so you could play 4 Oaks per turn.

I was thinking, what if the TCG/OCG had a "banlist" similar to Duel Links for some cards? Like, for example, You know how we have limited/semi-limited/banned etc? what if we introduced "Hard-Limit 1" cards? like what I mean is, Say you lump these "power 9" cards into one pool, and you're only allowed ONE per deck. Not one each, obviously, but just... ONE. So like if you include Pot of Greed, you cannot play Graceful Charity and things like that. Maybe even put a blanket rule in where if you use a "power 9" card, you take on some restrictions such as "If you play Pot of Greed, you can not play any other "pot" cards to draw cards this turn" or hell, make that a once per duel effect or something, so if you cast Pot of Greed you cannot play things like Pot of Avarice or Desires for the rest of the duel, effectively making those dead draws or something? and if you use one of those BEFORE pot of greed, then PoG is dead. Something like that? I wonder if you think that'd be a good idea with some refinement

A lot of these cards would not have been so broken, if they had mana cost to them.

I really want Pot of Greed to come to 1. Yes, it’s a free plus 1, which is a big no no nowadays in Yugioh’s card design. Plus, there’s the fact it’s very luck based at 1 copy.

Graceful Charity has always been my most fav spell of all time. A retrain of it i think would be balanced. "Send 2 cards from your hand to GY; draw 3 cards. When this card would be sent to the GY, it is banished face-down instead." With the usual HOPT of course.

I guess this is my own take, or hot take if you take it like so, but while some I agree, some I think are more OP, so... I guess I'll just say what I think they are, excluding Pre-Erratas since, well, those got changed: 1. Graceful Charity - Draws 3 and sets up the Graveyard easily, and can trigger discard effects. 2. Painful Choice - The most powerful card ever made, completely free advantage 3. Delinquent Duo - Free Hand rip, would be broken with even bad hand ripping effects. 4. Number 16: Shock Master - Literally a turn skipper card that's almost free in many decks. 5. Mystic Mine - Floddgate with massive searchability and protection via being a field spell, also still legal for some reason. 6. Imperial Order - Shuts off spells and counters the outs that'd stop other floodgates since most are spells too. Also can respond to them. 7. Red Reboot - It's a counter trap, meaning only other counter traps can respond to it, from the hand that disables trap cards for basically a cost you can always pay. 8. Vanity's Emptiness - Special Summon version of Imperial Order that can be turned off at will 9. Last Will - Combo off by summoning your deck. Honorable Mentions and why: Pot of Greed - Graceful Charity is the one that gets better over time despite being busted, while Pot of Greed just remains the same no matter what. Topologic Gumblar Dragon - The attempt to "fix" delinquent duo was one of the fastest bans in Yugioh history, hence why Delinquent Duo is a power 9 Sixth Sense - Drawing 5 or 6 is amazing, but the other cards are just that much better. Dimension Fusion - Reusable Banish-focused Soul Charge Soul Charge - We all know why. Royal Oppression - I'd argue Emptiness is more powerful due to being able to turn it off easier. Ultimate offering - breaks the rules of the game by allowing normal summon combos on the opponent's turn.

One thing when comparing Yugioh and other card game is the deck size. Drawing 2 cards is drawing 1/20th of your 40 card deck in Yugioh. Drawing 3 in Magic is drawing 1/20th of your 60 card deck in magic. Most magic decks are 40% lands which means drawing 3 cards is going to get you 1.2 resource cards on average and 1.8 actual impactful action cards. The lack of resource cards in Yugioh makes drawing 2 just drawing 2 action cards, and again the lack of resource cards gives you that for free. In that sense, I'd say Pot of Greed is actually much stronger than Ancestral Recall despite drawing 1 less card.

The Forceful Sentry should be up there, even higher than Delinquent Duo. Sure, it only causes 1 discard, but the ability to look at your opponent's hand, see what they're playing, and discard their most dangerous card is way too OP. Imagine this in the current metagame. Open with Forceful Sentry, get rid of your opponent's ash, before proceeding with your own crazy combos, knowing they got nothing.

Mirage of Nightmare I would consider a 'power-nine'. So many broken cards before there was a ban list. Every deck was Chaos Emperor Dragon into Yata lock.

Funny what you said about delinquent existing fine in other TCG; magic's version of delinquent is probably a card called Hymn to Tourach. For 2 black mana you discard 2 random cards from the opponent's hand. Card is not considered broken at all

The crazy thing about last will was that it was totally unused until it was errataed and it made the card broken. You can special summon at any point in the turn, and you can activate it whenever. Opponent has 1000 LP left? Activate last will, normal summon a monster and attack for game. Opponent mirror forces? Resolve last will effect in the battle phase, get sangan, attack for game.
@nicolaistuhlmuller8718

It was never errata'd like that, the original printing already had that effect. The thing is, the situation you described is so niche that it's not worth putting an otherwise useless card into your deck for just this specific reason when you could just get rid of mirror force in the first place and save your high atk monster. Back then losing a mon during your own turn was a genuinely hard condition, and special summoning a low atk monster was not a great reward. The card was a part of the magical scientist ftk but only really became broken when synchros were printed and you could trigger it off of a synchro summon to get another material for your next summon straight from your deck.

Definitely agree with Painful Choice and Graceful Charity I would say *Vanities Emptiness* should be on here, Special Summoning is the main reason the game doesn't last typically past 3 turns, decks use it just as part of their set up, making bigger monsters, trying to bait out handtraps etc. It vastly restricts what a person can do after the other player already had their turn. *Giant Trunade* as opposed to heavy storm, because you can play and replay any continuous spells, or in some cases even added monsters back to hand that may be acting as equip cards. *Ultimate offering* , because unrestricted amount of normal summons could arguably be more broken than too many special summons. especially with all the starters and older cards that only got their effects off of a normal summon instead of the special.

There's something similar to delinquent duo in magic called Hymn to Tourach that's extremely busted as well. For two black mana it makes an opponent discard two cards at random. It's not banned but it's a game changing card.

Pot of Greed is op compared to Magics draw 3, because it is a 0 mana draw 2 -no cost at all. Basically one card in hand is 2 cards in hand. Even a 0 mana draw 1 is overpowered in Magic and in Yu-Gi-Oh to play a smaller deck.

Here's what i thought about before watching video: Pot of Greed (+1) Graceful Charity (Draw 3 and load 2 in grave) Painful Choice (massive graveyard dump) Card of Safe Return (combo draw) Delinquent Duo (2 cards from opponents hand) Royal Oppression (no special summoning) Imperial Order (no spells) Skill Drain (no effects) Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring(No searching from deck, no summoning from deck, and no sending cards from deck!? TUNER Jesus) After watching: I agree on Soul Charge, and arguments can be made for forceful sentry over delinquent duo. Last will is just another summon from deck like monster gate or reasoning, cyber emergency, a heros lives, or quick launch just more generic. Could magical scientist do something in today's meta? Honorable Mentions Raigeki (Legal and @3, wild) Number 16: Shock Master Ultimate Offering Coldwave Pot of Avarice The Jars Last Turn w/ a combo piece that doesnt allow opponent to summon Mystic Mine (0 is still a number to make it blow itself up) Maxx "C" (situational) Return from the Different Dimension/Dimension fusion Solemnn Judgment Yata-Garasu/Pre Errata Chaos Emperor.....dek (IOC format ha Infamous)

Sixth Sense: "Draw 5/6 or mill 1/2/3/4 cards" is just stupid, so it's in my Power Nine. Cold Wave is the best stun card, but you can't just run it in any deck. A Power Nine has to be made of cards that you're going to run in any deck in any format.

As a fairly new Magic player (only started this summer) this is what I love about card games: they're almost uniquely prone to breaking. It's so easy to assemble stupid cheesy combos, to read between the lines on a card and realize what it can actually do, to just accidentally pull an amazing hand and be set the rest of the game. It's almost like "winning" isn't about defeating your opponent, but about becoming a trash raccoon demigod.

i found y'all through the Prof, and honestly, I know nothing about Yu-Gi-Oh beyond the anime. But y'all are so entertaining. And I def think you went about the idea for your decisions correctly, cards that will likely never be unbanned, and warp the game around their existence. The Power Nine are format warping cards, in paper they're only legal in Vintage, and honestly, if you aren't running them, you aren't making in far in a vintage game. But beyond that, we can see the effects of the Power Nine on modern Magic since Wizard of the Coast gave us a digital only format on Magic Arena called Alchemy, and WotC likes to play with the cards there, change them up and do other things with them separate from the printed version, take cards that ended up not being strong and buff them up, take cards that were way stronger than anticipated and bring them down a notch, to try and make every card viable. And within that certain cards in Alchemy let you add the Power Nine or other paragons of power that WotC has said "We can't replicate this again" to your deck or to your hand. And if you play one of those cards, you are most likely met with the opponent conceding, because even if they were in a commanding position, it just dissipated into nothingness, even if that Power Nine just got put in your deck, and not in your hand. Even today, these cards are just so overwhelmingly broken that in a digital format that WotC can re-balance in, they can't control the effect those nine cards have without breaking their main rule of card design "We will never make something like this again, and anything similar has to be objectively worse somehow."

I think it's interesting that you've added Painful choice to the list. Magic has a similar card/s in Intuition and Gifts Ungiven. These cards were printed with the idea that it would be about neutral. But the intended effect was circumvented and players are giving their opponent the illusion of choice. Rhystic Studies has a fantastic video on the topic of Gifts Ungiven and is an interesting comparison.

Not in any specific order: Maxx C Crystron Needlefiber/Halq Lavalval Chain Summon Sorceress Zoodiac Broadbull Mystic Mine Graceful Charity Painful Choice Royal Oppression As for why I put 4 extra deck monsters in the list, the extra deck is the scariest toolbox in the game. Unlike main deck cards, you never have to topdeck into your extra deck. If we've seen from xyz and link monsters, extra deck cards that interact with the main deck are inherently disgusting/broken. Elpy, Summon Sorc, Electrumite, Double Helix, Invoker, Denglong. All these cards are insane pluses, and you never have to topdeck into them because the e deck is an always accessible resource.

Graceful Charity sees almost a carbon copy in magic, which is very commonly considered an honorary 10th memeber of the power 9: Bazaar of Baghdad. There is one major difference in that Bazaar is a land that you tap (use once per turn unless another effect untaps it) to draw three and discard two. Lands ARE the common resource you usually use to pay for playing cards and Bazaar does't offer any resource, just the card filtering effect. Technically you set yourself behind in mana by 1 land, but it's repeatable, cost no mana to put into play itself, and there are just as many crazy broken graveyard interactions in magic as there are in YuGiOh.
@conkyjoe8932
Жыл бұрын
Bazaar doesn't let you draw three and discard two though, you have it reversed haha. It lets you draw two, discard three. That's why it's the de-facto "best card" for the Dredge archetype, nothing else lets you start filling up the GY that efficiently, that early. Now, a card that DOES work fairly close to Graceful Charity is Brainstorm. Both let you draw three for nothing (given that Brainstorm is instant-speed, and only costs 1, it's about as "resource-free" as MTG gets anyways lol), and then ship off the two cards in your hand you want the least. The GY in YGO has essentially just become a second hand to abuse, so often times the player is benefitting from shipping off two there anyhow, and Brainstorm allows you to either leave those 2 cards on top of your deck for use in the near future, or utilize a shuffle effect somehow (i.e. fetch lands, Sensei's D.T., etc, etc) to send them away and hopefully draw something better in their place.

To clarify about why Power 9 are so good in mtg. Ancestral Recall is just MTG version of Pot of Greed Time Walk is not as powerful as a take an extra turn effect is in yugioh, but it's still very undercosted for that effect, usually taking an extra turn costs 5 mana in MTG. Timetwister is the weakest of the 9 and some people might argue that other cards should take its place, but drawing a full hand for as cheap as 3 mana is an extremely good effect in combo decks. Black Lotus is an insane tempo swing comparable to brilliant fusion but on crack and it asks nothing for deckbuilding, you just include it in everything. As for the moxen, usually effects that get you more mana so you can play other cards earlier than you should cost mana and you get the extra mana on your next turn, or if they're mana positive on this turn they're one use only. Unrestricted moxen would essentially be just lands you can play with no "one land per turn" limit.

Chiming in with my 9 before I see the video. All my picks are simply on the basis that the cards have one or more of the following traits: 1) they have extremely powerful effects that will make a significant impact on the game 2) they are easy to use, with minimal downside to the user 3) they can be deployed in a very large number of decks without ruining synergy. - Negate Attack - Swords of Revealing Light - Monster Reborn - Change of Heart - Raigeki - United we Stand - Obelisk the Tormentor - Honest - Jinzo

I used to play YuGiOh in middle school back when it first came out, then stopped playing as I got into high school. I sold all of my cards for $15 because the Internet was barely a thing and I didn't know anybody who would take them from me other than my friend who I used to teach and play with, who didn't have much money. There was a big thing back then about being ashamed of your hobbies because you wanted to date and seem adult. This is my power nine, not because these cards are all banned, but because most of them were banned or limited at one point, and they used to all be staples you had to include in every deck you made. Raigeki Monster Reborn Harpie's Feather Duster Imperial Order Cyber Jar Mirror Force Jinzo Change of Heart Mystical Space Typhoon
