I will say this: I NEVER had an issue with people in Baltimore even though they knew I wasn't from Baltimore. I walked through these neighborhoods during the day and night and I was probably one of the blessed ones. However, I also know that I NEVER tried to act like or thought I was better than anyone up there. Anyone I came across was cool and laughed at my accent but it was nothing but love and respect. Not sure how it is now but that was in the early 2000s-2015. Baltimore is just like any rough area that has been forgotten by the politicians it's a lot of angry residents and there's a lot of residents trying to keep their communities together but can't pass it down to the next generation because they not doing right either. It's sad but we can make a change if we stick together instead of constantly robbing, raping, and killing each other. Can't keep tearing each other down.

Baltimore is definitely gentrifying and that's not a bad thing. The whole Harbor East area (and pretty much everything around the Inner Harbor) and Patterson Park (especially South) are already gentrified. Pigtown is gentrifying; Hollins Market and Union Square are gentrified, and so are a lot of the areas around John's Hopkins Hospital. Gentrification does not necessarily mean "White people"; it just means wealthier people moving in, and poorer people moving out, it's not just race. The Morgan State area, Reservoir Hill, and certain areas near Mondawmin are good examples of non-White gentrification in Baltimore.

In some of these hoods down south in cities like Birmingham, Baton Rouge, Augusta, Jacksonville, or even Atlanta and New Orleans. You ain't getting out your car and going for a stroll like this. If these folks see you roll thru, and they don't know you..? Ur already in trouble. If you ever DARE get out your car and start walking around, esp w a camera?!? That's a guarantee. Hell, even in Charleston, Columbia, Savannah. It's a reason why ppl call it the dirty South. I seen areas in both Augusta and Birmingham where crime scene clean up won't go in with police to do what they gotta do. Family members stuck w the task of cleaning up their loved ones skull fragments and brain matter. EMT and police waiting down the road until the sun come up, waiting for a crowd to thin out just enough to sneak in, snatch a body and dip. Jank is like a third world country in some of them spots. If I had to bet, I'd say it happens way more often down here than most folks realize. I got stories from Augusta alone that the police would be embarrassed AF to have get out. Cops running, leaving squad cars behind and the hood pickin that jank apart. Taking weapons, vests, everything. Straight crazy man.

Even in places like Sandtown, people are just trying to live their lives the best way they can. As long as you keep your peace, don't go looking for trouble, and don't stick your nose where it shouldn't be, literally nobody will bother you in the city. Hell, you might make some of the best friends you could ever know, since Baltimore people are some ride-or-die folks. My brother lived/lives in Westport homes. You actually passed his aunts house. Not gonna say his name because a lotta people hate him. Lot of people love him too. Shout out to my brother Joey. Hopefully he comes home this year.
