I messed up my box grater on one side grating a block of beeswax to make waxed cloth. Is there any hope to get it off?
@OrdinaryEXP
3 жыл бұрын
I guess you can use a hairdryer or other heat source to melt the beeswax. Just make sure not to let the melt wax drip everywhere or even worse, onto the heat source which could become a fire hazard.

The only thing you missed… Before you use your grater, spray it with some cooking spray, and then none of the cheese or food will stick to the grater

Does anyone ever show what they do with the pointless 4th side, that they call a grater, but it just looks like metal sticking out? All these years I thought it was for zesting, but have never used it in 50 years.

A really good hack is to use it for when you slightly overbake and burn the bottoms of cookies or biscuits. After cooling just grate the bottoms to remove the majority of burnt portions!

thanks so much for this video. I was so close to regreting getting a box grater instead of the microplane. Could you do a video on how to wash clean e box grater? one thing I hate about using the box grater is that it is hard to 'pick up' the residue pieces that get stuck in the holes.
@ergitab1123

This is literally the reason I am watching the video. I'm very inexperienced with cooking, and I find that there are always bits of veggies stuck in the small holes of the grater that I can't get off
@OrdinaryEXP

Get one that is dishwasher safe, otherwise use a brush with a long handle and hard bristle to clean both sides of the grater. More importantly, wash the grater immediately after use so that food residue would not dry out and stick in the holes.

I definitely agree that quality matters. For anyone that's about to buy a new grater - test out the grip first at the store. See if it's comfortable to hold while squeezing or applying pressure. I've bought two that looked ergonomic and had good reviews but also had sharp plastic/metal edges on the handle that ended up cutting/scratching the sides of my hand after only two potatoes. The one I have now has a soft rubber handle and it makes the work so much easier.

Nice vid; What gripes my grapes is; I bought my grater back in 1978 over the years it got less sharp. Now; after I bought a new one I learned using a tiny file (I bought a set) you can sharpen most of the grater. Also the discoloration can be (reduced). One more thing: when grating lay the grater flat on the opposite side you are using; it works much easier!!!!

Got an old box grator from grand parants that was made in Hong Kong( hell if I know how old it is).. pressure fitted and rolled sheet metal of some kind. No plastic or anything on it. works great, and is soft enough to even be tuned a bit for thicker or thinner slices.. I don't bother though. Just used it for cheese on a couple sandwiches, and have a ton of other ideas.

She’s holding the grater wrong. The black plastic guard is supposed to be completely against your cutting board and one hand firmly holding down grater and food item on your other hard.
