I’ve seen two things with companies, the first is an experience gap. Companies need people with a good amount of experience to fill roles, but often those that have graduated recently lack the experience to take on these roles. Companies need to take more time to train, whether this is at the internship level or the entry level, otherwise those with a lot of experience will eventually retire and take their experience with them. Second, it wasn’t until I got my Masters degree and moved to a location where my degree could be used that I started getting work. Even then, I was told even by my grad school to start networking and carrying business cards around with me. It was a person I networked with that ended up telling me about an opportunity that started my career. It’s like an old boss told me, many employers are understaffed, busy, and lack the time to find a great hire that may not be a good fit. They’ll more than likely end up hiring someone referred to them that has been vetted. It’s tough so we gotta start becoming creative.

The school IS "the experience" that these idiot employers need! And they know it! Hell, even a highschool diploma/GED is WAY MORE THAN ENOUGH for an entry-level job! Especially since highschool doesn't have shit to do with the job at hand! Why TF they ask for it is beyond me! I went to college but not for a long period of time. I signed up to go KNOWING I would UTTERLY HATE it! Low & behold that's exactly what happened! I've ALWAYS DESPISED school! Elementary, highschool, the GED and college! I'm glad I only signed up for a short amount of time and not longer because I would've been burnt out and I would've flunked! I'm glad I didn't bite off more than I could chew! I liked work-study. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less! Hated the classes, hated the entire experience! I never really had the aptitude for school, nor should I have to! You CAN'T FORCE the brain, nor the body to like something it doesn't! You CAN'T FORCE the brain to understand something it doesn't! I went to school for ONE semester, ON A GRANT. I tested it out/gave it try and VERY QUICKLY realized it wasn't for me! I couldn't drop out because my grant wouldn't cover the cost if I did! After my semester was over, I was PERMANENTLY done! I'm glad I didn't waste my time longer than what I did, trying to get a piece of paper that I can't take to my grave with me! A piece of paper that will deem me "overqualified" if I apply for a job and then pay me a low-wage, plus put me in debt!

Incorrect. College is the basic education. The experience is on the job training in the actual field. That's why trade schools are better for a lot of people. I never finished college either, it wasn't for me.
@marissa._
Ай бұрын
@@Ang-iz5hv Actually, I'm correct. I'm not incorrect. If a person wanted to be doctor for example, "the experience" would be the schooling, not on-the-job training. That's just an example. Yes, there are on-the-job trainings like cashiering, bussing tables, stocking shelves, dish washer, etc. Elementary school doesn't teach that. Highschool doesn't teach that. College is **not** basic education. Basic education was already achieved in elementary school. That's where you learn how to do basic reading and math. Highschool is just unnecessarily harder and college is even harder than that. That's why I mentioned that highschool is way more education than employers need for an entry-level, low-wage paying job, especially since highschool has **nothing** to do with the job at hand. Why do you need a highschool diploma/GED to wash dishes, bus tables, work retail, stocking shelves, cashiering, etc? Especially since, as we both agreed upon, is something you're supposed to learn on-the-job???? It'll never make sense! If employers are going to require these transcripts, documents, etc., they need to explain how the hell it correlates with the job in question! What does a college degree, highschool diploma/GED have to do with the entry-level job at hand???? And why? Why is it necessary to have???? Why do you need a college degree to be a waitress, bartender, cashier, Uber/Lyft driver, delivery boy/girl, hostess, receptionist, etc.???? Same thing with trade school. I'm not against trade school but there's no diplomacy or degree or certification to work in a grocery store, department store, etc.

Not necessarily true, which is the fault of the programs… When I got a degree in education, I spent 2 years (and the last year almost entirely) doing “fieldwork” which at the time I joked was “paying to work for free” but there’s no substitute for that experience, and along with healthcare (and surely many other fields) on the job learning is where the true skills come from. Getting an internship while in school (or during summer) has always been something some parents have pushed their kids to do, and with these people and their difficulty finding jobs, I can see why. I changed careers and now happily work in healthcare, again with fieldwork throughout, and had multiple job offers months before graduation. Find a program that has a comprehensive fieldwork experience, seek out mentors, and look at a major and the program that ends in a certain type of job. Sadly, people that get associates degrees in healthcare will easily get jobs while spending a fraction of what others did… For those with majors that aren’t going to get you anywhere, seek out a teaching pipeline program, or find a way to do a associates program (such as physical therapy assistant) or sonography assistant, or where demand is insane, and you have a career where you can easily make 30-60 per hour, depending on the area and years of experience (note, you still get hired, and rapidly move up in terms of what you make) and if you one day get that “dream job” it’s something you can do prn, with amazing flexibility and benefits. By the time the people in this video find something (or don’t) they could’ve started an entirely different life. Most of these are offered at community colleges, at night, online (except for lab portions and fieldwork) and are flexible, I’ve noticed most of these people have a lot of experience in NUMEROUS areas, time to do something more specialized, in a field that won’t be taken out by A.I in our lifetime. Sad to see the one mom cursing in front of her kid, the anger and depression is real, but of it isn’t working, time to try something else. Also a former teacher, and glad to have the background as the pre-requisites done, also it allows me to more opportunities in terms of management, etc. As a former teacher, this other teacher should’ve planned her new move BEFORE quitting, she isn’t going to get a job in another unrelated field by “tricking the AI system” she may be qualified, however other people are more so, she needs to do some work, and RESEARCH, because what she’s doing isn’t working, clearly.

You may just get buried under hundreds of other resumes and never get seen (that is, IF you make it through the ATS). AI is built up and replacing white collar jobs and the ones that aren't getting replaced are getting sent to India because they will do the same job for so much cheaper. Entry-level jobs now require years of experience. I could go on. I remember how bad things were then, but they are worse now and probably will not get much better. At least not any time soon.

Just listen guys and gals in this current era of hiring your resume and experience is everything in front of hiring managers, if you have a large gap between jobs forget about ever getting a job, hiring managers would hire dead person over someone with lot of resume gaps. My second advice is your resume should always be in upward tracjectory meaning you had a 9-5 jobs and then suddenly you work at McDonalds then thats a big red flag for the hiring manager. For all the left over people, best option would be to get a job through referrals of friends, family and anyone you know in general. My third advice would be try to show employers that you are willinging to go above and beyond for the business, remember small business is owner by normal hard working people, their biggest fear is hiring a wrong candidate that would damage their business.

Do people really think we should hire them just because they have a degree? That just tells me you can sit in a class and take a test. Very different than having the ability to apply knowledge or truly understand how a particular field works. Companies are taking a risk when they hire you. Experience helps mitigate that. Your 1 mistake could cost thousands of dollars. Spending the time/money & man power to get you trained and up to speed has costs associated with it. More cost effective to build on someone who has a bit of a foundation and needs some fine tuning than it is taking a blank slate and starting from scratch. In most cases... No, your Degree does not count as experience. Coursework is very different from operating in a particular specialty. Often what you've been studying is the old information that may not still be accurate or relevant to the industry. People want big salaries out the gate... but you've yet to prove yourself of why you're worth that much. Remember... initially, the company is taking a risk to see if it's a good fit and see if it works out. Thats your chance to shine! Do you complain? Do you try for bigger responsibilities? Are you coachable/personable and easy to work with? Are you bringing to ideas and enhancing operations? Are you becoming a student of the game you're in and working to master your craft? Or are you just going through the motions, being a fake version of yourself just to get the job... then a couple months later, you become problematic and dont perform how you said you would. Life tip. Companies want people who can help them grow/ increase revenue/ decrease liabilities/ prevent them from getting sued and help them become more efficient. If you're very good at what you do.. companies will fight to retain your valuable talent 😊 go nl to compto companies

Trust me, the job situation has been the same forever. I'm genx and we've felt the same discouragement, the same "What am I going to do?" feeling. The same everything throughout life. Only we had to print all resumes and cover letters out on high quality "resume paper" and spend a fortune on that and postage. Then sit by the phone attached to the wall at home hoping not to miss the incoming phone call. (And we didn't have KZitem for venting...it was tough!)
@istvanpraha

Oh no, it's definitely worse now. Y'all realize X is still prime work force and dealing with this too? I used to get jobs so easy. Even job hopped in 2009. Took me six months last time in 2014 but I got interviews and they acted normally. Now? Radio silence. No one is hiring. Jobs eliminated and not replaced. Hiring freezes. You interview at a competitor or similar company and they won't hire you unless you'd done the EXACT things before down to the minute detail. Also the rise of fake jobs obfuscates what jobs even exist. This "literally" (to use an overused word) feels the same as Oct 2008. You may say "but unemployment is lower!" OK but 1) we're talking about white collar employment here which has been doing horribly since 2022 and 2) people not hiring high unemployment. Just means no one is hiring

I find in many instances people are not highlighting their skills and experiences in a way that reflects the job available, or they are just applying to any and everything. Stop applying to random ish. Tailor your job search to your skills. Build up your skills and experience while you are applying to jobs. A lot of folks in these Tik Toks are getting caught up in why they didn’t get picked for an interview or why employers are questioning them in x y z way. If you didn’t get the job it’s because they likely have 100 you’d they could choose from. It’s all a numbers game. Keep pushing forward. It is a shi77y job market, 100%. You have to be adaptable and flexible. Be creative. Push for the political change needed and learn how to play the system at its own game.

The best thing people can do while improving their prospects is ALSO to clean up your social media! Companies have been searching people for a LONG time now, and if they have someone that shows anger, dramas, cursing, any potential type of “difficulty” they will pass them over in a heartbeat. Even those these people were just venting frustrations, companies see it as a liability, wondering what happens if the candidate doesn’t like something at their job, or they assume the person in dramatic, attention seeking and entitled, which in no way am I saying they are, but I’ve spoken to plenty of recruiters that look at one’s social media thinking exactly these things! It wouldn’t hurt to get rid of most of those sites anyways, more time for improving one’s chances of getting a job and seeking out mentors, etc.
