I swapped the inner foam between the 2 and found I enjoyed the DT1990 more with the Tygr foam over the driver. I then thought heck, lets try the tygr with no foam over the drivers since they are sitting there all nekkid. Personally I actually prefer the tygr without the foam over the driver which really surprised me. I would highly recommend trying them as such for a free, easy and reversable change.

I only have the tygr so I can only say about the 990 what I have heard, to me it sounds like the 990s are way more fatiguing (I can listen to the tygr for a pretty long time at a decent level without any farigue), imaging and soundstage might be pretty similar (not 100% sure tho). Really like the build quality, 990 prolly has a similar build quality. Not sure how they compare in the mids/lows. I would guess that the tygr is a bit darker
@User0155

So I have them both and the 990's are defnietely higher while presenting a little more details. It's (slightly) easier to pick out single instruments or melodies. And I feel like they're a little punchier in the bass. The Tygr has a little bit better locability which makes them better for gaming. And really you could listen to the Tygr forever, it's a super relaxed listen. Also the Tygr , isolates even less then the 990 pro.

@Frencho9
4 жыл бұрын
Audio Technica ATH-ADG1x is basically a 900x with a supercardiod condenser mic attached marketed at gamers. Discontinued since 2020 though. I own these, got em for 200 USD to replace my old ATH AD-700. Honestly under 400 USD they are the best headphones for FPS/Competitive gaming IMHO. At only 48 ohm, I power these with my Sennheiser GSX 1000 at 30 % volume. The imaging is incredible and the soundstage is perfect for competitive gaming, not too wide (Fidelios) and not stupidly small (HD600/6xx series). It's a tight soundstage, that presents sound super accurately up to 200-220 degree arc (huge 53mm driver baby) so perfect for gaming. I hate it when people recommend the bass heavy Fidelios X2R for gaming when the cues sound like they come from another continent (if you can pick em up and not drowned in all that bass) or when people shill the Sennheiser 600/6xx series as godlike for gaming when they present everything in front of you and CLOSE to you (yes the imaging is excellent, but determining the actual in-game distance between you and the audio cues is nigh impossible cuz the soundstage is MINUSCULE and intimate, a cue might be a block away but sounds like 10 meters away from you), plus need a powerful amp to power, cuz 150 to 300 ohms... So I got the Audio Technica ATH-ADG1x for as my open back headset for FPS, competitive gaming and discord in 2019 and am considering the Beyer MMX 300 Gen II as my closed back for single player fun gaming and music listening. Although these Beyer Tygr might be the best all-rounder open back casual gaming headphones now.

8:32 isn't that because of the damping factor? My AD500Xs can be driven loud as fuck by pretty much anything, but they only sound really good driven by my Zen Can Now I'm wondering whether to get a DT880 600ohm or this

Now that i look at the headset in details. They actually look like my HyperX Cloud 2's And i always taught that the HyperX Cloud 2's with the velour pads have a great open sound stage for a closed back headphones (They come with a 2 pair of "lether" pads which change the sound stage completely. And you can get them on Amazon for as low as 80$ Maybe worth checking out the sound difference?

I would have bought the 300 R instantly if it wasn't bundled with their microphone. Not paying €370 for a pair of €140 headphones and a €150 microphone that as far as I can tell really isn't good at all or any better than my Mod mic. What would you say DMS? Is the 300 R worth €370?
@DMS3TV

You don’t have to get the bundle. As stated in the video (and also linked in the description) it’s much cheaper if you get just the headphone without the mic.

@@DMS3TV This is true if you live in Germany Austria Netherlands France UK Belgium Luxembourg Spain or USA, otherwise it's bundle only. So for most it's bundle only I'm afraid. Soundguys also had the bundle only option and so they couldn't recommend it for people who didn't need a microphone. It does seem like a really promising pair of headphones though.

Also not the question wasn't a gotcha or anything, I basically just wondered if you know of any better imagers for the same price as the bundle.

According to beyerdynamic the Tygr 300 is based on the DT990 so a comparison with those would have been nice as well. Still a good video though

That these are able to display sounds in pretty much every possible location around you, just like speakers are able to.

Excellent review and great choice of headphones to review. The TYGR 300 plays extremely well on the schiit Magni 3+. I’ve tried the atom, heresy, liquid spark, and the topping dx3 pro. For some reason the 3+ gives a more spacious 3D effect. And makes everything smooth. That’s just my experience with it. I think it’s closer to the dt1990 then 80% if you’re only using $100.00 amps. My source is topping d50s. Thanks for the review.

I think I kind of managed to do that (and kind of the same FR) with the 1More Triple Heaphones thanks to Headfi. I also managed to put put Beyer like earpads to make them over ears.

The nice thing about the TYGR 300 is that you don’t need to eq it at all. I feel like the dt1990 needs eq at 8k to 10k range. But that’s personal preference.

@@mtnmankeith9069 I've actually never had a problem with the highs but that might be due to the type of music I listen to 🤷♂️

Ok the TYGR's arrived from Germany! I've run them for a while - so what's my verdict?... the highs don't have the usual Beyer issues (so that's a good start) BUT the lows are big soft and flabby, the mids are moved into the upper mid range, so are wheezy and slightly recessed. Overall they don't match the HD280 Pro's in any sonic way. The HD280's have far more control, faster, far higher resolution even in the lows - which makes a massive difference - to 'twacks'. The TYGR's are soft and ill-defined - I'd put them in the $50 range. Ok they have a biggish sound due to the big flabby bass and open-backs, but reports here that they can take on the presence of speakers, is just not true. My DT1990 Pro's are incredible but do get very hard work to listen to quickly (due to the harsh highs, and overall slight confusion), so still my pick is the HPH MT5's or now I'll also add the HD280's as a 2nd choice - which are very similar to the MT5 sound signature (they both do 'thwacks' well), though I would say the MT5's have a slightly closer more enclosed sound and a faster studio-like flatness, the HD280 are similar just a bit more fruity - so less good for critical work than the MT5's, but both are remarkably similar - listenable and useful. The TYGR's are just too soft sounding and mid-thin for listening enjoyment or work - they are not bad but they are no where near as good as the HD280 Pro's or the HPH MT5's. Also the TYGR's are hard to drive (fine if you use an amp like me - even then you might be maxing it, but for laptop etc not recommended, the MT5 and the HD280 run sweet on anything). Even though sound fidelity is my chief concern I'll also mention the TYGR's headband, the clamping force is too weak - the headphones can literally slip off! Poor R&D here. Just a few words from users over an hour could have helped here - rushed design in order to be 'comfy' for gamers, they would still be comfy with the correct clamping force. In anycase the sound is too sloppy, bass loose and kinda distorting and overall not involving enough (surprising as they are marketed as a gamer headphone!). The more I buy headphones, and want to like them, even $500 headphones, then I compare them back to the MT5's - the more I realise the MT5'w are just in another universe. Truly the MT5's are the best headphone out there, they are the king. The detail and presence in all parts of the freq range, spectacularly in the lows - the clean forthright presence of fast lows is not beaten by any headphone, none. Ok, the MT5's are not perfect, but they are friggin' incredible headphones. Ridiculous they keep slipping under the radar, due to other brand-model names such as TYGR, or Pro. The MT5's are king of presence and fast detail, esp in the mid lows.

Maybe they're really good but you're used to using something that's god tier :) What I'm interested is the soundstage and imaging. How good are they on the tyrgs?
@juliansimmons7700
4 жыл бұрын
@@renegade129 ...the MT5's aren't god tier - and they are my recommendation. As to soundstage, in terms of width, the TYGR's sound as would be expected - very open, in fact to me too open - slightly vacuous, like it's not easy to place instruments - everything is just open and a bit thin. The upper mids particularly annoy me in this regard, very wispy. For a headphone I can listen to all day without ear fatigue and has the most precision in placement of instruments and separation of nearby tones, and the stereo width is also quite defined, the MT5's are my go to. For games I can't say, as I don't play games. In terms of open back - if that's what you really need, I'd say the TYGR's are 'flatter' than the Philips Fidelio X2HR's - which have an odd wavy freq response that I couldn't get along with, so the TYGR's are ok, but I really can't say I'd ever use my pair again. On my desk now, plugged into my laptop? - the MT5's. In my music studio awaiting? - my other pair of MT5's! I doubt you'd be disappointed with the TYGR's at least some of the harsh issues of the DT770's have been tamed - though I'd probably put the DT770 above the TYGR's - even in terms of more defined soundscape. The TYGR's do need some juice though, not the hardest 'phones to drive but no where as easy and sensitive as the MT5's.

These were my first open headphones, never going to closed cans after experiencing imaging like these, ordered two more pairs for friends that also never experienced open headphones before. I am running my TYGRs with a THX Onyx USB C AMP, needed something that is compact at the same time with 32bit and DSD512 support they run fine without a AMP since they are 32ohms . But a AMP definitely further enhances the experience especially when you love to listen to 24/32bit .flac music. At the moment looking at the DT 900 Pro X want to pick them up, but wondering if the bass is improved a tad bit on those, the sub low bass is sufficient on the TYGRs, I am not a extreme basshead, but was looking for something a little bit more boosted in overal bass sub and mid bass. Anyone here tried the DT 900 Pro X coming from the TYGRs / DT 990s . The fact that it has a detachable cord is a big plus in my book!
