Something ive noticed in Matriarchal animals, Its more about Social skills than pure strength most of the time Male Hyenas are significantly less social than the females Elephants, The herds are matriarchal while the adult males are often wandering alone Orca pods are lead by females and males are often only allowed on the outer most parts of the pod , unless there babies You can even see this is Patriarchal animals, Female lions are a lot more social than male lions

Dogs originate in North America. So, the hyena filled the roll, since they originate in central Eurasia. Their claws can't retract and are used for running, not for hunting. They hunt more like dogs, having adapted for endurance rather than for speed. They were the only dog-like canids on that land mass until the land bridge connected the Americas with Eurasia. @@Samsen_ It's more that it's not the best comparison. Eevee is meant to be completely ambiguous, its designer outright said they didn't want it to look like a cat, dog, fox, or any particular mammal, and from its name, descriptions, and the like they keep that consistent. Poochyena and Mightyena are definitely meant to be hyenas with a little canine, they have multiple traits unique to them (particularly brown hyenas) both visually and in their bios, and their names outright include the word 'hyena'. There's no ambiguity intended in what's they're meant to be, it's almost spelled out what was intended for both. And while both are fictional creatures, that doesn't mean there wasn't a difference in direction. Purugly is also a fictional creature, but it's clearly a housecat with some stereotypically ugly traits included, it doesn't look like an ambiguous mammal like Eevee and you can easily tell it's a cat. Both Poochyena and Mightyena are more akin to it, the hyena is the primary focus, it's not meant to be an ambiguous mammal.

A word often targeted against blacksmiths as their work with fire is traditionally seen as dealing with magic. Saying they cast spells and curses and eat and rob the corpses of people. Bouda is used as a slur, and in Ethiopia is used as one especially in an antisemitic way against the Jewish population of Ethiopia. Forgot to mention the important part of "why" hyenas looks so much like dogs - its a process called "convergent evolution" when a species finds themselves adapting to the same ecoligical niche and end up developing very similar traits.

I heard there was a study that found a Female Hyena rise to leadership role in her pack from the bottom without fighting! She just made the right friends and kept them loyal, thusly, if you messed with her you risked fighting all her friends. I did find one that stated something to the effect of: Mother Hyena's prefer to protect the young cubs from their bigger siblings.

Whenever I would see “Mightyena”, I would always think, “It sure doesn’t look like any Hyena I’ve ever seen.” Then again, until now, I only really knew of the one. While I couldn’t really understand why that name in particular, I always figured that, by its design, as well as Poochyena, it was simply an attempt at bringing in something that resembled a wolf. The way it was often portrayed in the anime only helped me to further see it that way. I think that that’s likely why, whenever I’d see a game playththrough of what are supposed to be canines that include the two, it never crosses my mind that it might be a bit questionable.

idk if you brought this up in the video (typing as i watch) But fun fact is that Cheetah Cubs actually evolved to resemble Hyena cubs. As Cheetahs often get the short stick, sure they are fast but they can’t maintain that speed and get gassed pretty easily, and they can’t carry their prey up into trees for safety. So often times there cubs are targeted… however by looking like Hyena cubs it causes a predator to rethink things as they don’t wanna mess with a Hyena.
@testerwulf3357

Not true 😅 Tons of predators will take out hyena cubs if given opportunity! And they can SMELL its not a hyena. Cheetah cubs actually blend in with the environment to not be spotted as easily. Cheetahs typically hunt by night and try to avoid territories of other predators just to avoid other predators! This actually causes them to have little confrontation but when they slip up and come face to face with another predator they are DOOMED

I will point out two things: Poochyena suggests that it's BOTH a dog (pooch) and hyena (yena). Yes, I know, you addressed that, but I feel it's an important distinction that it actually IS a dog, at least half. Hyenas aren't cats, even if they're feliforma. That's like saying a hippo is a whale, because they're both part of Cetacea. They aren't and it's a disingenuous "gotcha" to say they are. They are hyenas, if they weren't unique, they wouldn't have their own Family.

Mightyena has always been a personal favorite of mine. I admit however, that I originally failed to recognize the obvious name references. I always thought Mightyena was a wolf of some sort, even if watered down a bit. Later on, I realized the name is literally a mix of 'Mighty' and "Hyena'. The problem I have is that Hyena's all have a very distinct body proportion with their slightly odd looking necks and what almost feels like a hunchback design. Yet Mightyena looks very natural and wolf-like. Additionally, the defining feature of a Hyena, their laugh, is lost on Mightyena. It does NOT have that creepy cackle. In the video games, its "cry" KIND of sounds like it, but in the anime it doesn't do that at all. (Unless I'm remembering wrong) But yes, I love my doggo who isn't actually a doggo, but is yet still a doggo in my heart. haha It's a shame Mightyena has such lackluster stats in the games. Mediocre stats fitting of early routes, a typing that doesn't do much to save that. Move pool can be interesting when you introduce breeding options, but otherwise quite lack luster. A mega form or evolution would be amazing. And with Legends ZA, maybe a mega is on the horizon? Give it a secondary typing that is relevant and we in business.

Hyenas are actually closer to mustelids, being the group that includes mongooses, weasels, otters, martens, badgers and wolverines. Also if you look up what kinds of sounds a mongoose like a meerkat are like, they aren't that far off from that of the "laughing" hyenas do.

Hyena "laughter" makes me laugh sometimes. As soon as I saw the thumbnail I had a small laugh, as one epeisode of The Batman came to mind, in which Joker had Batman and Catwoman in soem large maze, and at some point he sics his hyenas on Catwoman, turning away when she starts screaming--then laughs. camera pans back to Catwoman petting and playing with the hyenas as the lick her, and she tells him 'hyenas are closer related to cats than dogs'. Stuck with me ever since. And when I learned about the hyena matriarcy, I started thinking of Bonzai and Ed as Shenzi's PERSONAL boys. The "live action" remake better had this dynamic shown, as Shenzi IS the hyena leader there.

Aren't wolverines and badgers mustelids, and thus caniformes, not feliformes? You're definitely right that hyenas are feliformes, though, poochyena is basically yungoos and zangoose's cousin (as much as Timon hates hyenas, he's their closest cousin in the movie). I always figured poochyena and mightyena are dark type because they seemed made to be used by Aqua and Magma grunts. Though yeah, I could see how a hyena in general might be given the dark type.
