it isn’t bad at all honestly, just a bit heavy on physical exfoliation and light on hydration. i get it, pore strips are tempting cuz they actually make it look better right away whereas AHA/BHA/PHA/LHA or enzymatic exfoliators will take months to see results 😢. personally, after trying out intense acne treatments, my skin burns a lot and i have to pay super close attention to hydrating and moisturizing my skin in areas where my barrier is very damaged. my routine is probably somewhere in the middle. i don’t use a cleansing balm, i just cleanse twice with a gentle cleanser (i start with a foaming one for tough sunscreen and pimple patch gel) and occasionally use BPO wash. then, immediately light cerave moisturizer. then i let it dry while i put vanicream moisturizer and vaseline on my lips. then i put adapalene all over my face, and immediately a second layer of lotion. i use vanicream lotion around my eyes and my cheeks because my skin there is clear and the higher amounts of lipids won’t feed bacteria or yeast in my skin. i put hydrocolloid acne patches on my inflamed, pustular, open, raided, or otherwise “active” pimples that have come to a head, and also on ones that are healing to protect further. i am more gentle with my skin (avoiding towels, makeup wipes, microbeads) because i use actives known to be irritating and drying. if your routine isn’t causing you problem, and you enjoy it, then you should enjoy it without feeling pressured by other people. skincare isn’t one size fits all, everyone’s skin and lifestyle is different. like, my skin doesnt respond to products as well when it’s soaking dripping wet, but i don’t have any face towels and i would have to clean a towel every day so the best i can do is stand there and shake out my hands 😂. as long as you are cleansing, moisturizing (night) and using an SPF on not totally dry skin, you’re fine. the obsessive skincare routines are typically best for people with severe acne (yours truly) who need to do a lot more than most people to best support skin cell turnover, moisture barrier, healing, hydration, and micro biome.

Im gonna recommend a cheap and useful (and hydrating) skincare routine bc.. Why not? Morning: Cleanser Rose water (replaces toner even for young skin from 8-10) Alovera gel Moisturizer Sunscreen (Try to apply it like half an hour before leaving ur house it works even bettet) Night: Cleanser Clay mask or ubtan (indian method which works rlly well) Aloevera gel Moisturizer

@@Allinda. Oh yeah! Thanks for bringing that up. After starting to use just water I've lowered my makeup use to maybe 3x week tops. And sunscreen does come off with just that. Use a soap for the face (a cheap no name brand one is good) without perfume, get a moisturizer (again cheap one is good) without perfume and use spf when it's sunny. That's literally all you need. All the fancy brand stuff are pointless, they usually have ingredients that don't do anything or have way too much of certain ingredients and sometimes might be worse for your skin. Also, eat healthy and stay hydrated, that's more important than any skincare routine

We didn't just happen to land on pore stripes and exfoliating products. It was everywhere at that time by influencers & youtubers. Now it's all chemical exfoliating products & all serums for hydration, tomorrow something else will be the best. It's all marketing. I trust no trends anymore & just go with what works for my skin type without having to use 10 products to have a so called 'routine'. 3 or 4 products max for cleansing, moisturizing, protection are more than enough.

I have oily skin and it’s mostly oily cause it lacks moisture. I wash my face twice a day with warm water *only* to get the oil off but so it doesn’t dry my face off. If it feels dry I’ll use a small amount of moisturiser. Once or Twice a week I fully scrub my face with an exfoliator and use products like a serum and moisturiser. I keep products to a minimum though there’s no need to have many. I remove makeup with micellar water and cotton pads. 😅

The best change I've made for my skin this year is just using a moisturizer. I've never used one before and was terrified of anything hydrating since I had horrible acne in my teens. I'm 27 now. It turns out it makes a huge difference, I'm not breaking out as much anymore, and it feels really nice! But you do NOT have to buy expensive products to do this!!! I use a lightweight moisturizer with SPF 15 if it's sunny, and an oil-free moisturizer with salicylic acid at night, or if my skin feels particularly dry in the day. And I love them! Cheap doesn't mean bad. The SPF moisturizer was around $18, and the salicylic acid one was $10. Got a HUGE bottle of face wash with tea tree oil for $20, and if I want to be fancy in the summertime, I have a toner spray with witch hazel for $9. For exfoliating, a wet washcloth is all you need. And I keep a pack of $4 cleansing wipes for sensitive skin in my room and my car. $65 total sounds like a lot of money, but you have to understand, this is easily over a whole YEAR's supply for me! Well... except for the wipes. Sometimes I use them to replace my entire routine if I'm lazy. This is less than $6 a month. You don't need to spend $65 on every single product, especially when they only last a few weeks!
