Another good video which can really help with playing a common issue: holding a voice with one finger while playing other notes. If the music is written idiomatically for the piano, holding the long notes is intended; the only caveat, "as much as possible." Sometimes I have to cheat because the music suffers if a position held too long. As C guides-pedal. As always, keeping motion going somewhere prevents inevitable excess tension. Thanks to Craig and all commenters of good will.

Awesome video, as usual, this one even more so, with lots of great ideas! You are teaching the students how to think for themselves and that's something I totally missed in my piano studies. Thank you for sharing!

Ditto. Great contribution. It is vital to teach players how to work independently on all issues. We need to know how to solve our own challenges in productive ways.

When you play the chord at 5:26, you get a certain stretch in the little finger, because you can not get the arm further out to the right because the thumb is also active. How would you recommend playing it if one tends to have little finger problems and pain here? This is a general problem when it comes to playing chords with both thumb and little finger.

thanks for the videos they really help keep them coming! Question: when doing the circle motion is it bad to collapse the wrist? Or is the solution to circle higher so that when you're at the bottom of the circle your wrist will be still near a neutral position?

You control your wrist with your arm. You'll notice that he moves his wrist upwards by moving his elbow forwards and moves it downwards by letting his elbow fall back. By letting your elbow fall back you are increasing the distance between your elbow and the keyboard, thereby straightening your wrist. So you can control how far the wrist falls with your upper arm. If you let your arm drop your wrist without your elbow dropping back, your wrist will completely collapse (if it's relaxed) and you will get a very weak tone. Your wrist may also collapse if you let your fingers straighten, so make sure they keep the same curve and don't slide on the keys towards you. In fact, you will find that curving your fingers at the moment of contact with the keys when you let your elbow fall back will actually kick your wrist back up. Another thing you can do to stop your wrists from dropping too far is keep your elbows pointing outwards.

@@nostromissimo This detail is helpful; these movements can become unconscious if practiced correctly. Lowering, raising the wrists via the forearm is right. One can lower the wrist but never collapse all the way unless maybe resting in place; my habituation doesn't let me do it even then, unless the piece is over. I have learned to come from a higher position all round, torso, wrist critical and seat height, slightly more than most I see. Then, it becomes easy to raise the wrist and get thumb working under. Absolutely on the right track that wrist responds to forearm. Great points.

Another great video, but I was unable to locate Part 1. Is there some way you could rearrange the videos on your site to make the flow of subjects a bit easier to follow?
