Please sheldon, the disrespect is that the body guard and the president used their left hands whiles talking to them. And also it is traditional that when chiefs sit in durbar grounds or in public they don't stand again until the program has ended. It is just fair that a chief will rise up to respond to your greetings. You don't demand or command them. Talk less of disrespecting them with your left hand. The president is wrong. Let us tell him, the disrespect to Ghanaian chiefs lately is too much.

If that's your argument, should we then give up democracy or, as you call it, the 'western form of government' and go back to monarchies where kings and chiefs have the final say? My point is, Nana doesn't deserve to be disrespected because he is not a chief. He is still the president of Ghana, not a city or town or region, the entire country. I bet these very same people would get up without being asked if presidents of more respected countries were there. Familiarity, that's what this is.

@@robertosei8867wrong, China is able to do that because they literally pay and loan to these nations. So they have no choice but to do what they say cause they want the money. China can’t do the same thing to America, Russia, even Ukraine and Israel. This is when you know your country has no power on a world stage. It is not against any law to stand and greet someone whether be chief or normal citizens. If they don’t want to, you can’t force them especially since you don’t own them like China owns these African states. If you don’t own them you can’t shout and demand something just because you think you are the president. Thirdly, a president is a public servant, the main priorities and why we elected them to serve the people is to be diplomatic and make sure everyone/ethnic groups and more are not at odds. And creating spaces to economically boost the country. That’s why territories and people before Ghana was a country, joined arms with Nkrumah to be in a country called Ghana. Another reason why some groups want to succeed from Ghana especially the “western togoland” people that what independence and separation from Ghana. Because they don’t believe in the country’s governance and want to govern themselves. Diplomacy 101, the president should know the culture of the different people he is serving, whether he likes it or not, he can’t force anyone to greet him.

Some people need to think That's the chiefs house or territory. Addo D in this case is the visitor the chief was right not to stand. Everyone has rights and no one is supposed to order someone to do something without mutual agreement

This is disgraceful!!! he likes throwing tantrum like a spoilt child. He wants to command respect!!! Respect should be earned and especially this president who doesn't respect the voters seem to enjoy demanding "respect"

The protocol is simple, a guest should always show respect to the host. It's basic human etiquette. Sometimes, the host most may choose to reciprocate which is better.

What protocol? Is addo d paying their salary? You people too paaa. No one has to comply with anything. It’s not against the law. Plus if the president is actually a president he would have diplomatically been able to handle this situation

I am not sure we will be having this conversation if Otumfou was in Nana Addo’s situation.
